Leaving a comment just in case anyone runs into a similar problem: I was receiving error 18 (fan error). If the air filter gets too dirty, that can be one potential cause of the fan error because the fan isn't able to pull enough air. I followed the procedure described here to clean the filter and dustbin, and the error went away. Great video!

Really helpful demo of removing and reinstalling the main brush. But I'd advise against wetting metal components, or running water through a filter containing loose dust. I bought the S5 max over a year ago. It was a game changer in terms of keeping the house looking respectable. Its only shortcoming is it doesn't raise the mop when going over carpeted areas. So, I recently upgraded to the S7. Doing so seemed like a bit of an extravagance, but I'm delighted with it. Every time I empty the dustbin I tap the dry filter against the side of my rubbish bin to dislodge loose dirt. I wash the filter fortnightly by placing the clean side under the tap, so the running water removes dirt easily, as opposed to embedding it in the filter. It's really handy to have spare filters, that way the robot isn't out of action for a day or two, while I wait for original one to dry. Spare mop pads are a good investment too. I rinse the mop pad after each use and occasionally machine wash them. Towels shed a lot of lint, clogging microfibre, and reduce the performance of mop pads, so be careful about what else you include in the load if machine washing. I take out the main brush once or twice a month to remove tangled hair. I replaced both the main brush and side brush after about 6 months. And on rare occasions, the app prompts me to clean contacts and sensors using a soft dry cloth. I don't know if it being dry is necessary to prevent water damage, but I'm not taking any chances. Aside from that, I haven't done anything else in terms of maintenance in the 15 months I've owned a roborock. My floors are always clean now, with very little effort on my part, which is not something I could have claimed before purchasing the S5 max. If you're between two minds as to whether or not to buy the S7, I'd take the plunge. For anyone without allergies, I don't think an auto empty dock is worth the extra expense. Emptying the dustbin is a quick task to perform manually. But I guess the same could be said about moving rugs, or setting no mop zones.

Hi Breda, thanks for sharing your tips and experience with the S5 and S7. I agree, that since owning a Roborock, my floors have never been so clean so often too!

@@iamjoshstunell Question for Breda and Johs himself, do you guys recommend using demineralized water instead of the regular tap water for the water tank? I'm thinking of getting S7 or to wait for S7 MaxV to appear in Serbia. Reason why I'm asking if tap water shouldn't be used is because of possible limestone appearing and clogging up the nozzle used to wet the cleaning cloth? It's very common, for example, in Serbia that limestone appears from our tap water, even though water itself is perfectly fine to drink and all that... I'm just worried that I might clog up the nozzle and, literally, make moping useless if the water can't get through :|

@@dreepatz I would not risk using the tap water. We would be replacing the filter much more often.
@douggraham58122 жыл бұрын
Early Roborocks used a non-washable paper filter. Since the S5, the filter is specifically designed to be cleaned using tap water. I use the sprayer attachment on my sink to get a little more pressure. It gets the filter much cleaner. Filter life is greatly extended by regular washing. Just be sure to let it dry COMPLETELY before re-using.

Very helpful video, thanks for making this. I just got a Roborock T7 and it's basically the same machine, so this was a useful reference point. Your instructions were clear and the video's well edited. The only thing in the video I'd change is don't wash the filter, it clogs it up and doesn't remove dust. Use a proper vacuum or brush to get the dust off the filter. Or get some cheap replacement filters, and replace the filters more regularly. The Roborock subreddit has some good tips.

A better way to clean the dust bin after emptying the bulk of of it is with a can of compressed air. Take it outside and hit the filter on both sides as well as the dust bin itself with the compressed air and it cleans it much more efficiently than running water. Also won't need extra time to dry. Of course if you have crap literally gunked up and stuck to the dust bin, for sure run that through water lol

Mr Josh Tunell, Many thanks for your detail video which has been a great help. Can you please help with a problem others may also have faced? Cleaning stuck up hair at the roller's axles is daunting. Because, taking out the grey twist-off cap on the right hand side is tricky. At times, twisting it off doesn't work and when I tried too hard, the black part of the assembly (supposedly attached to the grey twist off cap), separated from the grey cap. When that happens, it's darn difficult to figure out how to reassemble the black piece into the grey twist off cap, and put them back into the roller. THAT IS REALLY MY PROBLEM. After it happened the first time, I ordered another roller kit. It happened again: I was careful in removing the grey twist off cap but it just it wouldn't budge. A little extra force, again it separated out the black part of the assembly. Tried to push the black piece into the twist off cap from the inside - doesn't work, because some notches prevent the hard plastic from the inside to allow the black piece's orientation to go through. I have watched your video frame by frame - at 1:09 there's no way that orientation allows the black plastic piece and the twist off cap can be together. Perhaps, there's some simply way to resolve this problem, please let me know: If while twisting off grey cap the black piece separates, how the heck does one reassemble the roller. My apologies if this is a stupid question. I am at a loss here, any insight will be appreciated. But again, many thanks for a video which has overall been immensely helpful.

Came looking for help because when I removed the brush housing, I couldn't figure out how to put the little black piece back into the side of the red wheel. I got the side without the pin done fine, but I kept trying to nest the black piece in with the gray piece on the other side. This video helped me figure out that they don't nest, they just butt up adjacent to one another and then the pin holds them together.

After watching your videos I wonder if the robot really makes life simpler compared to traditional vacuuming and mopping. I would like to know your opinion.
@iamjoshstunell2 жыл бұрын
Hi Giuliana, I definitely think it makes life easier around the home. Since buying the S7, only twice have I done a complete thorough vacuum with a plug in vacuum cleaner. I've found that by sending the Robovac out more regularly, reduces the need for manually vacuuming. It does have it's limitations in that it can't get right into tight corners and can't do skirting boards etc though, so depending on your home will determine how often you need to manually clean those areas. This video describing the maintenance is as per the recommended schedules, but in reality, you can go a couple of weeks without needing to touch the device. If you get the auto-empty dock, the dust bin and paper filter maintenance all but goes away, as the auto-empty does such a good job at cleaning those items. Then all you need to do is empty the auto-empty dust bin every 6-8 weeks, keep an eye on the main brush for tangles, and sensors for dust!
@staffiesaregreat2 жыл бұрын
A robot does a much better job than us because it travels along the area's slower, picking up more material! a robot doesn't, rush the hated job or get bored like we do. You can programme it to vacuum when you are out even, you can keep your home more dust free with a robot because you vacuum more often with a robot! Less dust on the floor = less dust everywhere else! Just use your plug in vacuum with the small point nozzle to clean out your robots bin and bin filter in situ!

What a great vid, A MUST watch for any Roborock S7 user, thanks alot for this. 2 questions; - I like to rinse the filter with the dustbin, only with running water, around 4x a week. Is there a recommendation we minimise the water filter cleaning and do it fortnightly? Assumption is the more often we do it the better... And finally will you get the auto emptying bin when released here? Potentially eliminating maintenance works for the dustbin and filter is pretty attractive...
@iamjoshstunell3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ben thanks for watching and the kind words! All the recommended maintenance schedules I mention are out of the S7 manual. The maintenance schedule would be dependent on the usage of the vacuum too, if you have a bigger area to clean, if you have pets inside, more prone to dust inside your home with open windows etc. then you will probably need to shorten any maintenance intervals. My assumption with all the maintenance schedules provided is that's the longest time you should leave it between intervals, and anything more often will help the vacuum perform better. I don't see any issues with washing the filter more often! As for the auto-empty dock, I'm super keen to get my hands on it! I've seen some reviews and it seems to do a really great job at cleaning out the dust bin and the filter, to a point where it almost looks like a brand new one!

Hi I have bought Roborock S7 +. But after two weeks of use, I sent it back because I thought the mopping was lousy. I understand that you have to wet the mop before starting the robot vacuum cleaner. but after half the house, the mop has been wiped off and the robot vacuum cleaner mops a maximum of 7 to 10 cm wide on the floor. the difference between s6v max and s7, is that the water drainage on the s6v max in two places on the mop on each side. which means that the entire width of the mop is constantly wet. while s7 has a single drain in the middle which is not enough to bleed the whole mop, resulting in it mops max 7 to 10 cm max. I would need your opinion on this .. or if I'm doing something wrong
@iamjoshstunell2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mina, that sounds about right I think unfortunately. I've found that I need to wet the mop pad before starting to get the best result, and then the robot water tank just supplements the water already on the damp mop pad. I only have a small amount of hard floors to mop in my place, but I could assume on a larger area of hard floors, the pre-wet mop pad may dry out, in which case it's just relying on the dispensing from the water tank to keep up, which isn't great on it's own. I think the S7 is a great robot vacuum, but just an 'ok' mopping vacuum. You may potentially benefit from a more mopping specific robot if thats a priority for you.
