Great sneak peek video, thank you! Have you ever considered doing a scratch test on the sonic mops? I have a Ecovacs AIVI T8 and I’ve held off on getting the enhanced mopping attachment because I’m concerned it might scratch the floor once it picks up some grit. The auto clean function on this S7 should decrease the risk but I find, even if I jump up and clean my T8 mop every 20 mins, there’s a fair amount of grit on the pad at the end of each cycle.
@MrRoombato2 жыл бұрын
If it picks up grit, and enough of it, it will scratch. But I think it's a minor concern because it's sporadic. Even walking on floors in shoes scratches them. Dragging chairs, setting down amazon packages...everything you do scratches them. What you want to be concerned with is if something scratches them all the time as part of its normal function, like the Roomba s9. That's continuous, constant damage and it adds up, however minor each pass may be.

As far as pure mopping goes, I can't really tell much difference between the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra and the W10. However, the W10's pad cleaning system is more robust. Fewer moving parts, less maintenance. You'd be giving up object avoidance and a lot of features, but if mopping is your priority, I'd go with the W10. That's too hard to answer. It is better at vacuuming and mopping at the same time, but since it can't empty its own dustbin, if you run on a schedule that doesn't matter. I want the best robot mopper because i already have a 6 maxv. Is the W10 a better mopper?
@MrRoombato2 жыл бұрын
Well, sort of. In the strictest sense, no, they are about the same. But when they vacuum and mop at the same time, the W10 does a better job because the spinning pads provide better coverage. Roborock doesn't want to overlap too much when they do both vacuuming and mopping, probably to avoid sucking water into the dust bin, so in dual mode, it's worse. The issue is that only the center of the mop pad on the S7 actually mops. The edges barely make contact. Set on its deep/intense/whatever mop only mode, it does a great job, as good or maybe better than the W10 (because it has to overlap a lot to get total coverage). But consider the dust bin and how you wouldn't have to empty it every day if you got the S7 MaxV.

It depends what you mean by better. The W10 seems to be, at least thus far, a better mop unless you use Roborock's deep mopping (a lot of overlap) mode, which it won't let you do while vacuuming at the same time (this may change before release!). But...the W10 does not empty its own dustbin, does not have object detection/avoidance, cannot do two way video conferencing and the app lacks some of the cooler features like full google home/alexa integration (W10 only has "start" and "stop"). The Roborock is also more efficient with water usage. The W10 is LOT less expensive though, and does a fantastic job. So at the end of the day, it's really matter of what features are important to you.

No, it doesn't. But I have it mopping every day (which is really easy to do because the water tanks last a long time and all you have to do to keep it going is dump the dirty one and fill the clean one), so it's not an issue. If your M6 can get everywhere in your house (cross floor dividers, etc.) then the difference is what you have to do to keep it running. It's much, much, much more convenient and easier to dump dirty water and fill a clean water tank than to change mop pads and fill the internal tank on the M6. So while the M6 will do a fine job mopping, and the j7 will do a fine job vacuuming (and a stellar job avoiding dog poo!), the big differences are the navigation and ease of keeping it going. So, thick carpets/ area rugs are out? It doesn't dry the pads? Having to remove the mopping attachment every time you vacuum defeats the purpose. I just want a self washing mop only. Maybe Roomba or I life will come out with one.
@MrRoombato2 жыл бұрын
Why out? I actually turned off carpet avoidance because all the mop does is make my little rug damp. I think. I can’t actually feel any dampness. I don’t believe it dries the mop pad and that may be an issue in extremely humid areas. Or it may not be. Also, you don’t have to remove anything. If mopping my rug barely makes it damp (in theory!), then lifting the mop should not be much different on thick carpet. If you just want a self washing mop, get the Narwal T10. iRobot is fixated on vslam and that’s junk tech.
@richardsmith11612 жыл бұрын
@@MrRoombato I'm in Florida. I guess that's considered pretty humid. I just don't want damp carpets and dog paws. My other issue is it mopping as it's vacuuming hard floors. The pad is wider than the brush roll, so you are wetting the floor before it vacuums. Not sure if you can set it to lift the pad on hard floors. I'm not opposed to VSLAM, I think the Brava m6 does a good job at navigation. I could do the Obode, but that won't come till July.
@MrRoombato2 жыл бұрын
@@richardsmith1161 If you think the m6 does a great job navigating, wait until you see a lidar robot in action! You can get it to lift the mop in hard floors. The way I have mine working is it goes out and does vacuuming only every morning at 5AM. Then it returns and empties its dust bin, and then it goes back out and does mopping only. This is because the deep, overlapping mopping pattern isn't available in mop and vac mode. I can see why they made that decisions...the rubber brush would squeegee a lot of that water into the dust bin. Regardless, it doesn't really matter to me, since I'm not awake when it does it.

@@richardsmith1161 The ones with the spinning pads leave debris along the edge only if they are vacuuming and mopping at the same time, which obviously the m6 can't do. I like the edge pass at the end with the vacuums, but with the mops it doesn't matter.

The reason why I gave you a negative review was solely due to you not actually showing the complete mopping action. You briefly displayed the mop in action, and then you skipped the actual mopping action of completely removing all the mess, instead you decided to only show the cleaned floor after the fact. Any sceptic will have major concerns that you actually stopped the filming in order to remove the stains by hand and then attempted to state that those stains were removed by the Roborock. Never do a half/A$$ job when you are attempting to video a review, it leaves too many questions unanswered when there are missing portions for the viewers.
@MrRoombato2 жыл бұрын
I understand your concerns. But first, I did show the complete mopping action. It was fast forwarded. I cut to show the clean floor, as I always do, because it takes about 10 minutes for the floor to dry. If I wanted to fake results, I can fake results pretty easily and you would never know. But why would I do that? These companies don't pay me. Second, this is not a review, it's a first look. I was not allowed to do a review until the product was actually released.

So typically, an object avoiding robot has laser navigation (on top, in the dome) and either a camera or a laser sensor up front. Such a sensor is separate from the lidar laser and is used to sense small objects. Some objects are better avoided with cameras and others with these front mounted lasers. The S7 MaxV has a lidar dome, a camera up front AND an up front laser sensor for detecting/avoiding more objects than the camera alone (or a laser alone) could manage.

Their mop technology is still lagging.. need roller brushes
@MrRoombato2 жыл бұрын
That is not actually true. There is only one disadvantage to the scrubbing pad, and that is how much area it covers (the edges of it don't really do anything). That means the robot will take longer to mop the same area as well as a robot with roller brushes (it will need to either make more passes or make tighter turns, which is one of the mopping modes of the S7). However, the S7's mopping pad has one very big advantage. If you have carpet or even a door rug, on a robot like the X1 OMNI, you will have to take the mop pads off for it to go on the rug/carpet. On robots that you can force onto the rug, they will get it wet. The Roborock, however, can lift its mop pad and vacuum your entire house, and only mop the non-carpeted areas. You don't know how annoying it is to have a robot like the X1 and one tiny rug (front door) in your entire house that the robot cannot even go over without you removing those pads.
