The original Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra was a great success for Roborock. Many people were upset when they stopped selling them so it is no wonder that people are excited about the new S8 MaxV Ultra. It has grown up quite a bit with many changes, but as you will see in this video some of those changes have created a few issues and some are less than perfect.

The current auto-emptying period of 30 minutes is too long, especially for a fully carpeted house. I propose reducing the auto-emptying period to 15 minutes to improve the overall cleaning efficiency.

Perhaps an airflow sensor could detect if the suction is below a certain threshold percentage set by the user. Thus, the machine would go empty itself automatically. Just a thought!

I was honestly really excited to get the S8 MaxV Ultra, seeing all the cool features it has. I was always a huge fan of Roborock, and really want to support them. But I also feel like they were getting much too expensive, with their top end robots reaching nearly $2K and mid-ends now over $1K. Sure, you need to pay for all the features they've added, but I honestly feel that most of the features aren't necessary, such as the voice control etc. That might be a huge think in China, but here, we have Alexa and Google, and if they just integrate it properly with those platforms, they don't need to work on a dedicated voice control feature. As such, the users end up paying for unnecessary or potentially useless features. I also feel like the numbers all these robot vacuum companies provide are just arbritary numbers, something they all pull out of thin air, just to one-up the competition, and they will charge you more for those higher numbers, while in reality, they probably aren't as high as they claim to be. I've never seen a single robot vacuum company show how they get those Pascal numbers, and we went from around 2000 Pa to over 10K Pa in about two years? What magical motor are these companies developing that produces these kinds of power without an increase in noise level or the physical size of the motors? It's almost nonsense. This is not a hit on Roborock, all robot vacuum companies boast this without giving substantial proof, and honestly we all fall for it.

Thanks Jamie for another great review. I also have a lot of respect for RoboRock. Knowing that its navigation is rock solid (no pun intended!) is very reassuring and my respect for RoboRock put the s8 MaxV Ultra at the top of my shortlist to replace my ageing Ecovacs T8 AIVI but having seen this review, although as you say it’s by no means a bad robot, I’m now thinking that I’m very definitely going to wait until the Dreame X40 has been out long enough to have a few thorough reviews published (including yours) but right now my hunch is that it will be the X40 that I end up buying, specifically the X40 Master if I can get it in the UK because that plumbed-in docking station that integrates flush with kitchen cabinets is the neatest implementation of a dock that I’ve seen and the kitchen is where my robot’s docking station lives so it would be perfect for me.

Great review, I'm looking forward to seeing more about the new Q revo models, I like that design a bit better. As far as the hot water mop washing, sounds like the dock is turning off the heating element too soon, I would think the best way to handle this is to leave it on throughout the mop wash cycle. Hopefully the issue of only emptying every 30 minutes in the vacuum and mop mode can be fixed with a software update. The Eufy X10 pro and several Ecovacs models allow you to have the robot self empty after a certain length of time in the vacuum only mode.

First of all, thank you for the great and honest review! I am too quite interested about the review of the eufy S1 pro. If I may ask the to check how good the mopping feature is. Especially how really clean the floor afterwards is. Like "the hook up" guys checked the floor after mopping with a tissue. The "smarthomeassistent" sadly doesn't check the floor afterwards with a clean tissue and I am afraid the roborock just spread the dirt till you simply can't see it anymore... But it's still there. @jamie.andrews 9 күн бұрын
The bag is unchanged in size from the previous models at 2.5 litter and how fast it will fill will vary house to house. Roborock say 6 to 7 weeks, but again that depends on the total square footage of the home, how many carpets vs hard floors and how many pets. Pets have a huge impact on the especially long hair pets. I honestly never fill one because I have moved on to the next robot to test right after this one.

Curious what product youd consider as the best on the market. Wow Jamie, what an excellent review! (and editing) Think I'll pass on this almost $2,000 robot (after taxes). Biggest deal breaker for me is that difficult hair removal on the main brushes. Thank you for your response, Jamie. I would like to have a mop function for my hard floors, and my budget is not an issue. Object avoidance is a must-have feature, and I also need a self-empty dock. While checking the available models, I saw that you haven't reviewed the L10S Pro Ultra Heat yet. Can you please compare it with the L20 and Q REVO models, and also with the S8 Pro Ultra? I'm not sure how important the hot water mopping pad system is. For your information, I'm from Australia, so the Dreame X30 model is not available here. I'm feeling confused about which robot vacuum model to purchase. Initially, I was interested in the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra, but I found out that it doesn't come with rotating pads. @jamie.andrews
@jamie.andrews 9 күн бұрын
Lidar hitting the cabinet is not the problem here or the robot would be able to get under the cabinet and thus not have the need for a swing out side brush. It would be like riding beside any wall. The robot has a side sensor on it to tell it how far the wall is away from the robot. It uses this along with the lidar to tell the robot that there is a cabinet base there. If you look at my Dreame X30 video you can see when it gets to the same cabinets it can tell there is a cabinet and it will start a wiggle motion to get the pad all the way under the cabinet. This is how the S8 MaxV should work as well just with the side brush.

In watching the robot in a corner or near an edge, it is surprising that the only solution to gather debris is to reach it's flingly arm out a bit. @@Sun.n.Flowers For me, I got the S7 MaxV Ultra in November of 22'. Best money I've ever spent cause it paid for itself within several months, compared to the cleaning maid service. When the S8 Pro Ultra came out I waited about a week to check some reviews of it, one of which was from Jamie's channel, then ended up getting it. Since the S7MVU was better at cleaning hard surfaces and the S8PU was better for carpet cleaning, according to multiple reviews. I put R2 (the S7MVU) downstairs since it had less carpet/rug coverage and R5 (S8PU) upstairs. Once I got the map/rooms set up with all of the no-go zones, I only have to deal with either of them once a week, a maximum of two times if I need to clean them up. Overall, I am very happy with both. If I had the money and know what I do now, I would have bought two S7MVUs at the same time. I do miss being able to check around the house with the remote viewing with the S8PU and being able to view what was avoided in an actual picture instead of an icon on the map of what the software thinks it is avoiding. Hopefully, soonish, I'll be remodeling a bathroom upstairs (I forgot to mention this was the main floor), and I might consider getting the version of the S8 MaxV Ultra so I can connect it to a water line and drainage. I might utilize the trade-in for the S8PU for the newer one with the drainage/water hookup unless they require sending it back in the original box cause I don't have it anymore. One thing I will admit, though, is that any of them will make you more aware of what you leave on the floor. I've had both get too close to shoes and get tangled with the shoe laces. Then, the robot spins around in circles for a few minutes, trying to get untangled. But then it stops and throws out an error out of frustration. xD

Jamie: Did you encounter issues when there was a rug in the room that had mostly hard surface in vacuum only mode ? I have a tile floor with a low pile rug under the sofa/coffee table. The robot does a normal perimeter run fine driving over the tile and rug tearing them as a single surface(carpet boost occurs she in the rug) Then it starts the interior cleaning. However, once the rug is encountered again, the robot starts wiggling its way along the edge of the carpet and does a complete perimeter run of the rug and full cleans the rug only. Then the robot returns to the tile floor and cleans the remaining portions of the tile that is left. The carpet setting is on rise which should be irrelevant in vacuum only mode but it appears that it defaults to mopping behavior when the rug is encountered in vacuum only mode. This is a major waste of time and I really do not like the rug edge cleaning as it the robot goes very slow wiggling g it way along the edge and chews on the rug edge a bit. I found it did the same thing in a room that had mostly carpet and a small marble hearth around a fireplace. When it was cleaning and drove onto the hearth, all was fine. But as soon as it re-encountered the carpet, it did a complete room permitter run again (as room is mostly carpet)before resuming cleaning. This was reported to Roborock. From my experience so far, the robot is ridden with software issues.
@jamie.andrews
@jamie.andrews 5 күн бұрын
You may have the option on that says clean carpets first under carpet settings. I agree it should only do this on a mopping mode and not vacuum only mode, but I forgot to report that bug. I noticed sometimes it would appear to clean the edges of my rugs and other times not. I wish you could turn that feature off as it turns up the edges of my runner. Too many issues with the robot right now.
@Firebat-
@Firebat- 5 күн бұрын
Thanks Jamie. I don’t have any of the other options enabled. The vacuum only mode simply is broken. In vacuum only mode, it should treat all surfaces (tile/wood/rugs/carpet) as one surface and just vacuum assuming you don’t have any options set (vacuum carpets first or after). The entire carpet menu is at this point is tied directly to mopping. In fact, at the very bottom of the the apps Carpet page in light font, it says “when the mop bracket is installed” which is always since it’s not removable. Bewildering how the basic vacuum functionality is broken.

@@Firebat- Make sure you are on the latest firmware. I tested and mine does not vaccum carpets first in vaccum only mode with the setting turned off. If I turn on the vaccum carpets first it will vacuum the carpet first. I agree it should only obey this setting when in vacuum and mop mode and not vacuum only mode.
@Firebat-
@Firebat- 5 күн бұрын
Thanks Jamie. It’s running the latest firmware. It actually doesn’t vacuum the carpet first. It does a perimeter room run (including crossing carpet/rug) and all is fine. It isn’t until during the room cleaning that it encounters the carpet again that it’stops and vacuums the rug completely including the aggressive rug edge cleaning. Then it resume cleaning the rest of the hard surface once the rug cleaning is completed(and that is what RISE says it does with the mopping bracket is attached). This is repeatable and the Q Revo MaxV behaves exactly the same. So it’s something with the firmware in the new models and Roborock not accounting for vacuum only mode. I believe Roborock thinks everyone use mop and vac at the same time and isn’t focusing on vacuum only. That would be the correct behavior if mopping at the same time. I typically use vacuum only most of the time and leads to another annoyance of the app always ending up back in mop and vac..thus requiring routines to be created to simplify things. But as of now, I find the robot not usable until they fix the rug issues in vacuum only mode (and make the aggressive edge cleaning and option as you mentioned). Otherwise the robot will damage some expensive rugs.

It’s a bit upsetting thinking they fixed a lot of points from last years model but instead adding on a list of new issues to chase after

Agreed. They will fix them though.

I want a reusable plastic bag just like normal vacuum cleaner, it's so expensive to keep buying bags not to mention the pollution from all the wasted bags

The problem is the bag is the filter.

To all the idiots praising Vacuum Wars religiously, learn what a proper review is with this video. One thing i would add is some stains next to the edge to see how well does the edge mopping works

Yes with all of these edge mops coming out I need to figure out a good testing method.

Thanks for the review but man for the price I'm paying that's quite a few 'upgrades' I can't look forward to anymore from my S7 maxV. Mines supposed to come in tomorrow but now I'm wondering if I should've got the X40 instead

Roborock just need to get it over with and make a roller brush mop instead of a pad or spinning brush like q revo
@jamie.andrews
@jamie.andrews 9 күн бұрын
Because of the S1 Pro everyone keeps saying this, but it is not that simple. The roller mops take a lot of maintenance to keep them going.

Disappointing to say the least for what the cost. Looks like the little mop arm and sweep arm is fradural and something else to break.
@jamie.andrews
@jamie.andrews 9 күн бұрын
My best guess is they are trying very hard to make sure the arm is protected. Maybe a bit too hard imo. I totally get that it will need to stop spinning when it hits something, but then why does it not pause more going into a corner. I expect they will make some changes. Curious to see how the arm on the Dreame X40 performs.

There are more simple robot out there. They are designed to keep your floors clean, but the technology is not for everyone for sure.
