I was very hesitant between these two models. Finally we chose Dreame. We have been using the X40 ultra for a few weeks now. X40 ultra + tricut brush is the perfect combination! We are super happy with the X40 ultra. I'm still amazed at how well the robot mops! Especially that I don't have to worry about long hairs thanks to the tricut brush. Great purchase! By this video and my own experiences I can see that I made the right choice. Jamie thank you too your videos helped me a lot with my choice! 👍🏻👍🏻

@jamie.andrews I just bought the MaxV the other day and am waiting on it. Personally, I prefer the voice and camera. The reason for this is that the government already tracks me with smartphones and other devices, so I'm not going to settle out of feat. I do have or 90% carpet floors in my house so that's also a concern.

@@Mortiar Very annoying for you of course. We don't have a pet, but we do have a lot of long hair lying on the floor. It works perfectly for us! Maybe it's in combination with strong suction and longer hair. I hope your next device won't have this problem🙏🏻
@jamie.andrews2 ай бұрын
@Mortiar Oh yea the Tricut brush does not solve the problem with hair getting wrapped around the axles. Those still need maintenance. The only models I have tested that solve this issue is the Narwal Freo models and the Roborock Qrevo Curv. The Tricut gives you a brush with bristles which they are known in general to better with picking up hair with the main drawback being that it attacks hair more than an all rubber roller. That is where the Tricut system comes in with the cutting blades. With thick dog hair though it may not work since the hair needs to be thin enough to get down into the blades.

I sell both Roborock and Dreame robot vacuums and have been for a few years. We handle all warranty issues through our stores without relying on either of the companies. Now that we've had both brands for a few years this is what our statistics look like right now when it comes to issues and warranty-covered repairs: Roborock has a warranty/repair rate of roughly 8% of every unit sold in our store. Dreame has a warranty/repair rate of roughly 4% of every unit sold in our store. This is just over 2,5 years of data. Just to finish with another point: People satisfied with their product rarely leave post on forums as opposed to people unhappy with whatever issue they might have. Which is why our industry never puts any weight on simply what customers say - we rely on qualified repairmen to give us the feedback and statistics. Also in my own anecdote - I've had both, and can say personally I much more prefer Dreame X40. That said, keep up the good work!

I just scooped up an X40 Master on sale through amazon for $1200! It was only at that price for a couple weeks early December. To offset any concerns of reliability I also got an extended warranty/insurance (amazon) for $115 for 4 years! Previously had a Roborock S7 Max V Ultra which was good but did eat a lot of cords and would get stuck on occasion. This thing is a big upgrade in all regards, and especially for not having to fill/empty water tanks! I will never go back to that! Thanks for the great review, it really helped me, especially since the roborock S8 MaxV Ultra with Refill & Drainage System was also on sale for $1200 at the same time!

Based on the earlier reviews from Jamie, I bought the Dreame X40 Master with the tricut brush. We have hard floors mostly. The tricut brush is the first brush where hairs are not a maintenance problem. Every now and then I take it out, and clean a few hairs, but it is nothing like other products I have had so far. The Master is a dock that has fixed plumbing, the robot is the same. We run the robot each day at 1 pm. It cleans 111 m2 or 1,195 square feet net cleanable area.

What a coincidence re the timing of this video. Today I've finally got round to setting up my X40 about 2 months after it arrived. I haven't done the mapping run yet but the setup was pretty easy. My unit (actually the X40 Master because it has the plumbed in dock) has a voice assistant. I've kept it turned off but the app definitely seems to think I can say "OK Dreame" and then things like "Start cleaning", "Clean the living room" etc. I'm glad you continue to call out Dreame re not using the side brush on carpets. I'm going to experiment with telling it to ignore carpets that I think will get it to spin its side brush. I'll just need to be careful to only specify mopping in rooms that really are hard floors (my kitchen & 2 bathrooms) and be careful that the room boundaries (doorway positions) for those rooms are very accurately set so that it doesn't stray onto the edge of the carpet in the adjoining room when mopping a hard floor. I'll see how it goes and try to remember to report back here.
@jamie.andrews2 ай бұрын
It feels a bit suspicious that Dreame stated it is not needed, but only for the models with a swing out side brush. Dreame had some issues with the side brush when it first came out as the internal gears would shatter (claimed to now be fixed) and I almost wonder if this is an issue since carpet would cause a lot of drag. Just a thought and I don't like to speculate, but this really makes 0 sense to me.
@julianfp19522 ай бұрын
@@jamie.andrews I'd call it more than "suspicious", I'd call Dreame's official explanation - that the side brush is not necessary on carpets - ridiculous/absurd. No one with fully carpeted rooms will want to clean the edges or corners of their carpets? Yeah, right! I agree with your suspicion, a suspicion obviously well-informed by the forums you hang out in so you know a lot about issues that other users have encountered. An overly fragile extending side brush design does sound very plausible to me with Dreame trying not to admit that design fault by coming up with this other nonsense justification. All of my carpets are quite low pile so I cant see them putting much more strain/resistance on the side brush vs a hard floor so I think my experiment is probably safe but given both of our suspicions I don't think I'd risk setting "Carpets - ignore" to on if I had even medium pile carpets let alone deep or shag pile for fear of breaking the brush.

Thank you for your detailed review! Initially, I was leaning toward purchasing the Dreame X40 Ultra because of its impressive features and advanced capabilities. However, I ended up choosing the Roborock S8 Max-V Ultra. Honestly, I’m not entirely sure why I made this decision, especially since both models are similarly priced in my country. Perhaps I was influenced by Roborock's strong reputation for reliability and long-term support! I don’t have pets, but I do have two children (a 7-year-old and a 10-month-old), so maintaining cleanliness is crucial for me. This is my first experience with a robot vacuum, and while I’m excited, I’m also feeling a bit nervous about if I made the right choice, Or what do you think? would it have been better to go with the Dreame X40 Ultra given its features? I haven’t received the vacuum yet, and I really hope it proves to be a worthwhile investment. I’d love to hear your thoughts!
@jamie.andrews2 ай бұрын
Roborock's quality and support are large factors. It is why I saved that category for last and stated it might just change your mind. I can't exactly tell you if you made the right or wrong choice as I look at both robots being 2 of the best therefore I don't think there is a wrong choice overall, (well if you have mainly carpets I think the X40 is potentially a wrong choice.) lol! It comes down to what you need most in a robot vacuum. If object avoidance is a high priority you might be disappointed with the S8 MaxV Ultra, however if your house is tidy and you pickup before sending the robot out you will be fine.

Have you considered using test dust or other finer particle material? Cat litter and rice are both pretty big compared to most household dust and from other tests I've seen this does seem to make a significant difference especially on carpet vacuum tests.
@jamie.andrews2 ай бұрын
I have considered it and if I had a real studio with space I would do more tests. This issue with dust is it gets scattered on hard floors by the vacuum exhaust. That is a primary reason I use cat litter on floors. It won't be impacted by the vacuum motor exhaust. That and it is a real issue for many people to have scattered cat litter around their home. On carpet you have to make sure all of the dust is completely removed after a test which is challenging. Robot vacuums are not yet a replacement for a large vacuum and I suggest people still use a large vacuum on carpets every now and then for deep cleaning. That means robots are maintenance items designed to keep your carpets and floors looking nice in between deeper cleanings. Robots are great surface level cleaners and thus the rice test. It also makes it easy to compare robots side by side and in my testing the ones that score better with rice also clean the carpets better overall. Anyway I hope this helps. I love the suggestions and one day maybe I can rent some space for a proper testing studio.

Both the X40 and the S8 MaxV have those docks, although for both you have to buy a totally separate product meaning you can't buy one of these and convert it down the road. Here is the one for the X40 www.dreametech.com/products/x40-master-robot-vacuum Edit: Dreame makes a drain and refill kit for the X40 Ultra but you can't buy it in the US. I don't recommend buying 3rd party or Aliexpress but you could.
@julianfp19522 ай бұрын
100% agree. I suspect it's just coincidence but it is worth noting that in fact both robots reviewed in this video have the option to be fully plumbed in. I consider this capability a game changer and a must have for any vacuum/mopping robot that I buy from now on. For the Roborock I believe that's an extra cost option to buy the version that comes with the auto-fill/auto-empty dock. I don't quite know the full story with the X40. Like the Roborock there is definitely an extra cost option to get a version (identical robot) that comes with a different dock that can be fully plumbed in but I think I read somewhere that for the X40 even if you get the standard version with the water tanks in the dock there are also hose connections so that standard tall dock can be fully plumbed in. I might very well be wrong on that though. When I was deciding on my next robot - about to do its first mapping run in a couple of hours once I've tided everything off the floor - I only considered the two robots in this video because I really wanted a robot with a fully plumbed-in low profile dock to tuck under a kitchen cabinet (with a bit of carpentry to make it fit). I ended up getting the X40 Master which is the version of the X40 that comes with the fully plumbed in low profile dock but the s8 with auto-fill/auto-empty dock was the only other contender.
