Hey, I just want to say keep doing what you’re doing. I actually bought the VERTEX Duo Pro cordless and Stratos cordless Shark and the Shark self emptying bin robot because of your reviews. Thank you. About the RoboRock robot. It’s very good but like a lot of us agree the bag is a doozy and their price is so expensive. Not to mention that replacement parts and filters will cost a lot. Suggestions: I would add a new comparison on price of replacement parts like battery, filters and brushes. I think if you compare this part all of us can form our own opinionated choices. I think this should be added as part of the price point for consumer buying decisions. However, your reviews are still on point and I am a live testimonial person that admits that your reviews are what makes me make wise decisions in purchasing vaccums and bots. Thank you!

SEE UPDATE AT END: Just got a Q Revo and will be returning it. Was very excited about it however it has constant problems with the auto emptying feature clogging. It also does not pick up things that you would think it would pick up and in the hallway where I have a runner down the hallway with hardwood underneath, it tends to deposit dust bars . Was also very excited about the rotating round mops thinking that would be most effective compared to the vibrating mops and I can't really say that they do a fantastic job. The unit does get high points for the mop cleaning and drying feature that it has. Also noticed that when there's Hardwoods underneath rugs, the unit will get half on the carpet half off the carpet. It turns on the mops and because of the angle of the unit the mopping basically is useless on the hardwood as sufficient contact isn't made w the hardwood floor. And because it's using water for mopping, the carpet can get slightly damp as the unit thinks it's on hardwood. You would think the algorithm would allow it to go back and position itself so it is squarely on the hardwood so that the mopping would be effective with it maneuvering on hardwood completely rather than being half on hardwood, half on rug... of course there are times there's not enough space between wall and rug to allow it to do that but in the places where there is, that trajectory would be preferable. It appears you get a lot for the money and you can't beat the price but I have just been disappointed. Having reviewed some of the other brands it is my inclination to get a higher-end model in another brand and forgo the mopping feature and just have the vacuuming and auto emptying option. While the mopping feature is fantastic for tile not sure I trust nice hardwood floors to the robotic mopping if it were to use too much water on Hardwoods . The app does allow for you to adjust the water usage in the mopping phase but you almost need to be able to do that based on floor type. However you can rig it by programming a separate schedule for your tile floor rooms and then you can set the water usage on mopping to high for those runs. Guess I should also give props to the app because it does have quite a bit of functionality. UPDATE: MY OPINION IS COMPLETELY REVERSED. Come to find out when I did the full clean it was just too much dirt I guess in my house for it to handle it what I ended up doing was programming a schedule and do a couple of rooms at the time two or three rooms at the time or do the full house but do them as task two rooms under one task two rooms under a different task two rooms under another task and if you do that the Revo will go back and empty after each task. NO MORE PROBLEMS WITH IT CLOGGING. ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PRODUCT

I got the Q Revo and returned it now using the S8: The raising mop isn't really that much a difference, because the spinning mop seems thicker and especially when its wet The dock on the Q Revo is much better, it charge at the back so the robot don't need to back in to wash and then turn around to charge and the cable management at the back is much better Tank design is also better on the Q Revo, the cover open full length and stay open, unlike the S8 only open half and still need to hold it to keep it open I always clean up my floor before sending the robot out, so the obstacle avoidance isn't much an issue for me, but the Q Revo does seems react a little bit slower to stuff The major reason for me to switch to S8 is the mop, the spinning mop seems leave very noticeable mark on my tile and it is actually narrower; the Q Revo spin on the plastic to clean the mop, it should last a lot longer than the others, but I found out the dirty does trap at that plastic tray a lot and very hard to clean The material on the S8 dock feels higher quality, although it has a smaller tank, but S8 seems use less water when mopping, so refilling frequency seems same to me For those who don't leave stuff on the floor, the Q Revo is really the best deal, it really does perform the same on mopping and vacuuming, but if you leave a lot of stuff on the floor than S8 is the way I moved from old Roomba 980 + m6, so not matter what I'm happy, it takes less than hour to mop and vacuum my house now compare to 4+ hrs 🥲 However, I do miss my m6 mop, cause I feel the m6 still perform better on mopping, even the j7+ combo seems better than the S8; but iRobot's mapping and navigation is so disappointed

How does the s8 do with mopping stuff like sauce or something else that has dried on tiles and is hard to even get off by hand mopping?
@ybing Жыл бұрын
@@ufsta for most of the dirt it works fine, I do full house run once a week, and has it clean the high traffic area few times during the week, you can always set the mode to clean harder; the only thing that it can't clean is those black dirty spot from shoe that stick on the floor, that will still need to mop by hand it clean and map the house very fast with the LIDAR system, so you can just ask it to run and clean every time you spot dirt, if you have stuff that can't clean off my hand then no robot can clean those stains off, it is still and robot, can't apply that much pressure compare to your hand

If you have to choose between Q Revo or S7 Max Ultra what would you choose? I have a Roomba 698 only, but with two very young kids (1 and 3 years) it is big mess every day, which I should clean, but often I dont have a time for it with my wife (work and after it we spend a time with kids). Mostly this mess is in the living room which is dining room too, in the kitchen and in the hall (~60 m2). But I wish to clean also (but less often) the other rooms on this floor (totaly on the first floor is ~90m2) and once a week second floor in my house (another ~90m2). My house floors are mixed with pcv panels and ceramic tiles. No carpets excepts of this small in bathrooms, which is easy to take over and hide for cleaning. S7 Max Ultra is 15% more expensive in my country than Q Revo. Thank you in advance for your suggestion.

One week into ownership, the Q Revo is truly amazing. Are there more expensive models that might be a little better? Probably, but the Q Revo can hold it's own at a fraction of the price. We bought direct from Roborock for 680-10% military discount, total cost $612. Much to our surprise it successfully avoided a folded blanket we forgot to pick up, so while it's obstacle avoidance might not match models costing twice the price, it's fine if you pick up cords and such. On the plus side, it does not touch, bump, or markup walls or furniture. We even have Christmas decorations out that it successfully avoids. None of our previous Roombas or Deebots could do that. Q Revo for the win for us.

Please add floor-to-ceiling windows and mirrors to the test suite - these vacuums have issues with those, thinking they're a giant extension of the room, and keep trying to bump into them like a fly. Adding a no-go zone or a virtual wall helps side-step the issue, but the map is still messed up.
@jt4326 Жыл бұрын
That's because it uses LIDAR. If the LIDAR is "seeing through" an object, it doesn't think it's there.
@AlexKarasev Жыл бұрын
@@jt4326 Yeah, I think most folks know. The point is to use sensor fusion and not jump to conclusions from lidar alone. A lidar may think a floor to ceiling mirror is a symmetrical whole other room, a floor to ceiling window is an infinite expanse, and a floor to ceiling curtain is a solid object. All of these can be easily identified and resolved by cross-referencing with other sensors the unit already has. Same thing with furniture. I've several arm chairs which I've dutifully put in the map, and roborock marks (I should say mars) their locations with little obstacle "cones" when they're nudged slightly. The thing should understand the idea that the object it knows is relatively small, and user marked as a chair, can move. Same with the concept of a door - it may be closed or opened, it's not a change in the map.
@forresthopkinsa Жыл бұрын
To add to this: when the map gets messed up in this way, there is *no way to fix it*. If you want the robot to stop thinking there's another room between your walls, you have to reset the entire map and make sure to keep something in front of the mirror so the vacuum can't see it. This has probably been my biggest gripe with my S7 Max V Ultra.
@AlexKarasev Жыл бұрын

Love all your content and reviews! Something that would be nice is rating the company's customer service. We bought a Roborock S7 when it came out. Hey Chris, I think you might have a hole in your testing. Some other channels are observing a dramatic difference in obstacle avoidance performance when on carpet vs when on hard floors. RGB camera systems seem to keep most of their performance, where the directed light systems of the s8, etc. just absolutely fall apart. I’ve also experienced this with the s8- on carpet it’s a nightmare and gobbles up objects much more than even my s5 did. My s7 maxv is just night and day better in these conditions. Thinking it was a bad unit I replaced it, but both s8 units behaved the same. Any chance of looking into this?

Amazon reviews say these don't sense when bin is full. It empties dustbin only after cleaning so some folks make a complex set of schedules with each room as its own schedule so the bin will empty after completing each schedule (i.e. after each room), otherwise the robot bin fills up too fast. Your thoughts?

You spill a liquid with a certain amount of solids in in, let it dry up, mop it and then boil the dirty water from the dirty water tank, to see how much of the solids were cleaned off of the pads after one cleaning. Then weight the dried rags itself, to see how much dirty they retained vs the floor.

Stopped running for 6 months due to house changing too much and it couldn’t handle furniture and boxes being moved, kept getting lost and making random maps. I do run it daily now. It’s 3-4 hours to clean 1700 sqft. Love the vacuum lines it leaves. Refill the water every 2 days. Empty the dirty water every 4 days. Vacuum bags last 1 week. Map is a lot of work. Use no go zones for carpets it can’t handle, base of floor lamps, stands, mats, furniture it gets stuck under. False walls to help it out. Sometimes during a clean it will say it’s blocked and can’t reach a spot, then quit and go home. I pickup for each clean. I’m not sure what it avoids in real life. It eats all cords, fabric, pet toys. lol it even ran into my dog.

What Roborock vac+mop combo would you recommend for tiled floors?
@emp0leontrainer Жыл бұрын
I just bought a Q Revo for Black Friday and after seeing some of these glowing reviews I am kinda disappointed with it. Navigation and features are more advanced than the Roomba S9 I had. Mopping is great, however the vacuuming isn't. I changed the suction level to the highest setting but it did not pick up pine needles and hairballs from our pets. The vacuum roller mouth is too narrow and got stuck with just a small leaf and half a pistachio shell it found under the table. Made a terrible grinding noise. The Roomba would have taken longer to get around but at least it cleaned decently. 😪 I am thinking the dual rollers may be better for larger debris so might try the RR S8.

I would like to see a video of what the difference is between the s7 maxv ultra vs the s7 max ultra. Looks like the s7 Max has more suction power and a better dock design. But can the s7 Max vacuum in a dark room? I know the s7 maxv had a light that would turn on in a dark room so it could vacuum in a pitch dark room.
@RJGamer-zb4lb Жыл бұрын
the s7 Max has no camera so yes it can run in the dark. the light was for the camera.

I'm sad they got rid of the camera in the newer models. I'm a big fan of remote piloting my S7 MaxV Ultra to yell at family members and spy on my pets.

I have a unique question. I have 6 indoor tennis courts side by side and there is a lot of fuzz and dust buildup. It is a hard slightly rough surface. Do you think one of the robot vacuum cleaners work if I ran a couple of them throughout the night to clean the courts?
@NathansHVAC Жыл бұрын
It looks like the S7 is rated for 3,200 square feet. However, it might be able to divide the job into 6 cleanings with trips back to the refill station. Try calling roborock or emailing them. It seems like the 21,000 square feet could be divided into 6 different rooms. Then a separate schedule could be made for each room. Or, maybe roborock already knows when to return to base and refill?

I have a dog and usually I walk around checking everywhere thst I don't have cables or w/e lying on the floor. This time I had checked but waited a bit too long to start the vaccum. My dog usually never poops on the floor but this time she did. The vaccum came to the living room where I was sitting and it smelled like poop. It had smeared poop luckily only in a small area. Cleaning the poop off the floor wasn't an issue, cleaning the robot was - as the poop got inside the wheels and the rotor thing and so on. So this time I don't want to rely on me just walking around (especially since sometimes I do start it when I'm not home) so I really want as good obstacle avoidance as I can get.
@Jim_in_AR Жыл бұрын
I've seen other reviews that say all 3 of these have poor obstacle avoidance, unlike the S7 Max V Ultra, likely due to their absence of a camera. You also didn't test pet hair pickup, important to many users.
