Ah Stinger. One of my favourite robots. Man I'm so glad they traded that cutting wheel for the mace. NO ONE could smack and hammer a robot like Stinger could. The 'active weapon' rule really did kill off a great competitor in that one... despite the performance of the original version. xD
@florix78893 жыл бұрын
What's the active weapon rule ?
@PredictedCyborg3 жыл бұрын
@@florix7889 It states that all robots had to have a weapon that moved or was powered in some way. So Stinger's club-mace tail while surprisingly effective at thumping, was unfortunately NOT considered an active weapon as it had no power that was independent from its drive system. Which is how Gabriel, a modern (and very TALL!) competitor was able to satisfy the active weapon rule - it has the ability to use its weapon from a standstill and independent of its drive.

It's pretty amazing that Stinger put up such a pathetic fight against Mace but still got a seeding in series 4. Then again it had by far the most improved performance ever next year! Was Suicidal Tendencies an early attempt at a drum spinner? It's certainly no Pulsar, but what was at this point? Weeliwako was a pretty interesting take on the axlebot in that its default position was upright. Can't help wondering if that might have ended up limiting its damage output. I believe Red Dragon might be the first competitor seen that ever has a dedicated self-righting mechanism (as opposed to Cassius's flipper which worked as one). About all that's notable about it! Speaking of first appearances, first appearance of Dominator in the pinball. They'd become a lot more notable in later series with Dominator 2. Raizer Blade's a seriously unlucky team. Beaten by house robot interference in series 2 with Killdozer, lost a judge's decision that probably would have gone its way in a later series... and fought Hypno Disc twice in series 4!
@datguy88057 жыл бұрын
Sayeth Vexus yes scuicidal tendencies appears to be the first drum spinner (on record) and its closer to modern drums than the next two (in fact it reminds me of diablos drum, back when they didnt entirely get the teeth on drums in battlebots)
@datguy88057 жыл бұрын
Sayeth Vexus also thats one of the reasons why id rather have the hazards of battlebots than the house robots, the hazards are something you had to prepare for (until build quality improved, and even then you still had to keep the killsaws in mind) but typically wont end your day (except in the lightweight division), the house robots could easily end you in one go, and can shove you around.

@ryanodonovan94975 жыл бұрын
If it was up to me, Suicidal Tendencies wouldn't have been given the win against Raizer Blade since the former was in a dead zone first. I get that the Raizer Blade team were foolish to needlessly endanger themselves by trying to dump Suicidal Tendencies into the pit when all they had to do was back off, leave it running in circles and they would've won for certain. So their loss kind of serves them right. However, it doesn't change the fact that Suicidal Tendencies was already unable to continue the battle with one side of it being immobile. I'd understand it being given the win if it managed to push Raizer Blade into the pit in spite of its predicament (like when Behemoth immobilised Magnetar in Series 10), but it didn't. Suicidal Tendencies was out of it first, therefore Raizer Blade's blunder shouldn't have mattered. But oh well, you live and learn, I guess.
@bradXshuffle3 жыл бұрын
Yeh that was a bad decision :(
@ryanodonovan94973 жыл бұрын
@@bradXshuffle At least the judges learned from it, though, when Suicidal Tendencies was in the exact same predicament with Wheely Big Cheese in the next series. As indicated by Craig Charles when the team were baffled that their predicament was now treated differently, once the rule was made for Gemini that it could lose with just one of the clusterbots being immobile, that made the judges wake up seeing that half of Suicidal Tendencies was immobile too.
@Tempest-jc3me Жыл бұрын
It mostly came down to the rules surrounding the pit and "immobilization" not being fixed. Seeing as Firestorm had issues years later with Morgue, and the highly controversial Tornado vs Razor, the rules surrounding what qualified as immobilized weren't fully formed yet.
@ryanodonovan9497 Жыл бұрын
@@Tempest-jc3me They were pretty clear with the pit. Raizer Blade was classed as pitted for being stuck on the edge, and the pit's meant to trap robots in place for an instant loss. And the incident with The Morgue and Firestorm (which was the following year, not "years" later) was handled properly by the judges as they pointed out that the former was caught by the pit with no escape. They just should've done the same with Tornado, when it was in a blatant dead spot over the pit that it wouldn't have escaped from whether held there or not by Razer (not Razor - not to be pedantic, but I find that mispelling baffling when there are five keys between the E and O keys). Probophobia didn't have to detach from Snake Bite when pitting it - neither should Razer have had to do so with Tornado. With immobilisation in general, yeah, the officials took longer than they probably should've to update the rules on it as robots evolved to having srimechs and the ability to run both ways up. Maybe the officials genuinely did need something to make them see that a robot dead on one side should be classed as out of it. Still, like I said, the Raizer Blade team were the ones who took an unnecessary risk when all they had to do was back away and win for certain, so that's their fault.
@Tempest-jc3me Жыл бұрын
@@ryanodonovan9497 You can definitely tell from it's first match against Red Dragon that Razor Blades drivers were pretty reckless. Due to the fact that it spent the entire fight pinned between Killalot and Bash, it's likely Red Dragon would have progressed had it not broken down.

Dominator's score tally in the pinball appears to be incorrect. 25 points from the barrels, plus 10 points from the multi-ball, plus 75 points from Dead Metal's target equals 110 points in total. So where do the 50 extra points come into it?
@ryanodonovan94975 жыл бұрын
If you look closely at 24:32, you can just about make out Dominator bumping off the target worth 50 points that Sergeant Bash was guarding. It's just not so easy to tell when it was obscured by Bash firing his flamethrower, and Jonathan Pearce (presumably) was just more focused on how the multi-ball release was activated (not that I blame him too much on that since I personally think it was rather cool) to also mention the target being hit.
