In all of the short I’ve watched, Bryan has had to play stalker-like characters. In each role he brings this type of perfect eeriness to the character. Like in this short, that simple “I’m going to make a friend.” And then the smile, it’s so perfect and innocent, yet scary. So here's the scenario Charlie was a disturbed, distant, anti-social man where he didn't know how to make a friend with being somewhat of a person who prefer robots as playmates which you saw him playing with in the beginning to be a toy so the more he passed day by day toward the girl who was interesting to him, he wanted her to be his friend but he knew she wouldn't be too willing so he pretty much killed and brought her back as a robot that would never leave him to have a friend forever.

thats a pretty good take on it actually. i can agree with that tho when i saw it i thought it was more of this obsession he had with robots and parts as it mentions in the beginning how passionate he was for them. it looked like he was so obssesed with the parts of figurines and then this girl that he wanted something "perfect" ultimately leading him to take her apart and create her into something else, into something perfect
