I'm gonna tell u the truth, as a former mech engineering major switching to computer eng you should know this. 1.- mechanical engineers do not cover much or any coding aspect of the robot, even if you learn C, you will not use it, because there is someone else who does it better. (companies work with a team of engineers) 2.- most industries will hire you to do just "mechanical engineering" stuff which is designing the physical parts (the body, the materials,) why? they need to know if the robot will be able to do this and that or if it will break if you apply to much force or heat in certain areas. so that is your job, basically applied physics. if you are passionate about robotics and electronics, maybe a computer/electrical engineering major is better for you, or a software engineering major. but this is just my opinion. when people say "mechanical enginnering" is the most versatile enginnering degree, it does not mean that you can do and work as anything, it means that you can work anywhere. physical bodies and mechanics are included in almost everything that is why it is called versitle, you can work in robotics, bioengineering, aerospace and etc, but doing the same stuff, designing physical parts, understanding thermodynamics etc. it's an amazing major, and i was doing really good until now, i even got to work in some robotics researches as a mechanical engineer, but it is not for me, it is not what i want to do when it comes to robotics. KEEP IN MIND!! i did not complete my major in mech engineering, but this is what i can see in my future taking mech engineering courses. and you can still work in anything you want with any enginnering major, companies will hire you as long as you know the stuff. but ill say it again, if you passion is programming the robot, circuits and etc, mechanical engineering will only teach you about the physical part. some extra notes: tbh no enginneng major witll teach you everything you need to know, it will just guide you through the basics and then you have to learn own your own in order to do what you want. mechanical: body, steel, gears electrical: circuits cs/software eng: the programming i chose computer because is a combination between electrical and CS, i wanted to do software but is not available at my school, but computer engineers can also become software engineers so all good. btw i i made any grammatical mistake, im writing this at 4am, i just decided i want to switch majors and if you are doing mechanical eng for robotics, maybe you should switch as well.

As a mechanical engineer to become full robotics engineer you need to have Pro knowledge in mathematics and electronics(logic gates), basic knowledge in mechanical and electricals principles and if you want to be multiskilled then softwares knowledge will make you unbeatable robotics engineer. But this knowledge also" CANNOT LAST LONG" one more new technology which is leading Now is Quantum mechanics . In another 6- 8 years it will become versatile.
