"See a need, fill a need."
Robots is a movie that changed my life. Now I'm here to talk about it.
This video is the bridge between the scientific and the philosophical. In many ways this movie is terribly under appreciated for how genius it was in it's execution of real topics. This is a video I had recorded many months ago but finally got around to making.

Rodney is basically the ideal Capitalist hero, with Ratchet being the ideal Capitalist villain. One sees that if there is a way to profit off helping people, then it's not only morally but logically right to do so. The other just sees numbers. They see what makes the numbers go up and will do any slimey thing to make that number bigger. Both are doing it for their own pride and families.

Ah, my favourite movie ever! Lor, I've rewatched that so many times, and I'm never bored of it. Rewatching as an adult, there's many parallels to real life products and consumerism, planned obsolesce and such... ... Now that I think about it, it reminds me of a robotic version of RePo! The Genetic Opera.

I would say that you are correct, but there are other ideologies pick up is like objectivism can also answer this question in the relative same way that you were suggesting without necessarily destroying greed, or assuming greed is pure evil. And viewing all the factors of modernity as as that are inherent to the system, but aren’t necessarily evil. again your ratchet analysis kinda proves that he wasn’t evil behind a failure of this world, but forces beyond him were.
@TheShuckmeister
@TheShuckmeister 4 ай бұрын
Modernity is a manipulative force, so much so that I think people don't realize they have been manipulated by it. I would say objectivism is a start to free yourself from some of the burdens of modernity but I don't believe we're only substance. I think we have form that cannot be observed objectively, but we can observe the results of our form objectively. A good example is what compels a bee to make honey? Substance is objective, form isn't, and neither are sufficient without virtue, hence why I believe greed is sinful.
@doctoranimationda5491
@doctoranimationda5491 4 ай бұрын
@@TheShuckmeister yeah but let’s be honest even in Atlas shrugged (one of few works outlining objectivism) it is show the ways greed is bad and good. For example Dagny’s brother James is greedy but his greed comes from corruption and under the table contracts and workings . While Dagny, Rearden and many others also use greed as a motive but to expand develop and go further by ruffling niches they see in customer bases. They expand their greed not through just being greedy but by understanding how to realize their ambition. Thus why I don’t see greed that is corrupting . But the motive of easy fulfillment of greed through under the table dealing and underhanded tactics as the main problem. I would even say that Ratchet the 2ndary antagonist of the robot of the Robots movie is an archetypical copy of James Taggart. A person who chooses to fulfill his greed through bad tactics.

Disagree on a lot of points. Vaguely fascistic at times, broke liberalism at times. "Change the system from within" ends up with one being changed by said system. A new system must be created from the outside, running in parallel and eventually replacing the existing one. Modernity has also become a tradition in itself -- much of what we think of as "traditional" are products of modernity: the nuclear family, community organizations, even major holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving (as we know them today). What is needed then is not a revanchist turn away from modernity, but a more radical recognition that modernity as we might think of it has not yet actually occurred. That we are indeed still trapped within traditionalism.
@jchoneandonly
