I don't think the Wild Creatures treachery adds two Creature enemies like you resolved it. Each player chooses an enemy in the staging area and engages it. After all players have done this, THEN you check to see if any player (I think "any" is the keyword here, otherwise they could just use "a") did not engage an enemy in this way. So either you both engage an enemy, one person engages an enemy (if there's only one in the staging area) and you discard cards to get a Creature enemy, or no player engages an enemy (if there's no enemies) and you discard cards to get a Creature enemy. Maybe that made the game a bit harder.
