Andre the giant said this was one of his most proud achievements. He absolutely loved how the movie came out.

Andre also loved making the movie. He felt that it was a rare time when he didn't feel like everyone was looking at him like a freak but instead as just a member of a cast. It was a happy time for him despite the tremendous back pain he was suffering. He was in constant pain. Director Carl Reiner helped work around Andre's problem with the help of a heavy duty harness during the scene when he is pulling himself and the other three up the cliff. Also, when Buttercup "jumps" down into his arms in the end, she was on a harness so she only had to be dropped a couple feet down into his arms. Robin Wright (Buttercup) got emotional years later, speaking of how, during some cold days of filming, in between takes, Andre used one of his giant hands to keep her head warm. [EDIT] I meant to say ROB Reiner.

There's also the funny anecdote about one day during filming, when Andre let out the loudest, longest roar of a fart that went for a full minute. Everybody was silent on set. Reiner walked up to him and said "Are you ok Andre?", to which Andre replied "I am now, Boss".

Mandy Patinkin, the actor who played Inigo Montoya, had lost his own father, so the line "I want my father back" was especially meaningful to him. You can feel that he put his heart into it. For fans this is one of his most memorable roles for a reason!

As a teacher, you'll probably appreciate this one, Jay. I taught for 8 years in inner city Nashville in a behavior intervention school. Every year during state testing, we were allowed to watch a movie after testing was over for the day. I always brought in the Princess Bride and told the boys to give it 20 minutes. Then I would offer a different movie if they didn't like The Princess Bride. The boys ALWAYS wanted to finish the movie!

My husband had a teacher bring the VHS in for the last of school. A third of the class started rolling their eyes. Without thinking my husband said “are you f*cking serious. It was such a good illustration of the whole "meta" angle of the project. This could have just been a run-of-the-mill fantasy movie (although certainly one of the better ones), but using the framing device of the grandpa and grandson and employing Savage as a stand-in for the audience took it to another level.

During the pandemic, a bunch of celebrities made a remote version of Princess Bride, each celeb taking a short scene, filming themselves re-creating it in their home with props and costumes they happened to have lying around, then edited all together. It was fantastic. Charlize Theron as "The Dread Pirate Roberts" as played by Fezzik in the fiery holocaust cloak is a particular highlight. This film is beloved by generations, including the top celebrity actors working today. It's a classic.

If I remember rightly Cary Elwes - the original Westley took part in it, as did Fred Savage and Rob Reiner. They actually liked the idea and got behind it. All the actors involved did it as a fun project during lockdown, because they also love the film and to lift people's spirits when things looked so bad at the time. Cary Elwes being happy to be involved in it says a lot as he's on record as saying doing a proper actual remake of the film shouldn't be attempted.

This movie is for everyone boys and girls it is such a great movie. This movie is based on a book. The writer of the book also wrote the script of the movie . The scene with Westley and the six finger man when the six finger man hit him in the head was real and the actor who plays Wesley had to go to the hospital. here was real spark between the main actors in real life Westley and Buttercup that's why it works. Andre the giant used his big hands to protect Robin Wright (Buttercup ) head when she was cold on the set. You should also see Wilow, Lady Hawk, The Never Ending Story and The Labyrinth 1986. This is one of the movies with an epic soundtrack like Conan The Barbarian or Highlander which you should also see. one of my favorite quotes from this movie "“We are men of action, lies do not become us.”"

The grandpa said "as you wish" because that was the phrase that the farm boy used to tell her that he loved her. When the grandpa said it he was telling his grandson that he loved him. You guys seemed to have a great affinity for children - my favorite performance by a child is in the film "To Kill a Mockingbird." The film is a classic that you might really enjoy. It does involve racism in the South in the 1930s so it definitely has heavy parts - if you do watch it be prepared for that.

For some additional information about this... A couple of years ago several actors got together and did a quick homemade type movie celebrating the movie with different famous actors playing the parts, reading selected lines from the movie. The ending was Rob Reiner in the bed playing the part of the boy and his real life father, Carl Reiner (very famous comedian in his own right) played the grandfather with the 'as you wish' ending. Carl would pass away a few weeks after filming that scene.

Stars Julia Robert's, Dolly Parton and Sally Fields, Shirley MacLaine (so funny) among other well known Hollywood actors at the time. Another movie set in the south is Green Fried Tomatoes. Drama too. Bit of a mystery in it too. 1990's If you want true southern influence, then you need to watch 2 movies released in 1958. One is Cat On The Hot Tin Roof starring Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor. The other is The Long Hot Summer starring Paul Newman again and Joanne Woodward, who later married him in real life. Both were written by a very well known Southern playwright called Tennessee Williams. Both are dramas. I highly recommend both.

That fencing scene is one of the best ever. They trained for months with two legends in fencing, who had worked in films for a long time, including doing a lot of choreography for Star Wars and with older swashbuckling movie stars. Those long takes where you could just watch them fence without all the quick edits they might do today is just great.

I was in Philosophy Club in college, and the Fencing Club met at the same time in the same pizza place. One of the members of the Fencing Club was the brother of one of thw members of the Philosophy Club (still friends with both of them, almost 30 years later,) so after official business, the two clubs pushed our tables together and were one big group. They would talk about the accuracy and the eloquence of this scene (and how Thibault actually does cancels out Capo Ferro!)

Cary Elwes did it with a broken toe as well (Andre the giant wanted Elsie’s to try out his four wheeler and Elwes smashed his foot on a rock.) Rob Reiner actually pushed back filming the duel a couple of days to give his toe more time to heal.

Tom Hanks is iconic as Forrest Gump. I would recommend "Big" as someone's first Tom Hanks movie, however. It's absolutely charming and is a perfect starting point to experience his range as an actor.

This is one of those cases where the book AND the movie are both practically perfect. The book is written from the premise that the author has been looking for this book that he remembers being read to him and finally gets a copy and realizes that his father read him an abridged version because the original was dry and wasn't that great, so he is publishing that abridged story but constantly references the original version (which doesn't actually exist). It gives extra backstory to the characters. If you love the movie, you'll love the book.

Out of a list of all my favourite movies ever, THE PRINCESS BRIDE is a gem. It's a classic. Timeless. Love it. Great cast, great story. Funny. Some real life heavy heart moments ie. The loss of Andre, the loss of Mandy Patinkin's father and the significance of his "I Want my father back" line. Such a great movie.

The movie Stardust. It has a ton of well known actors and it is definitely worth the watch! To be honest, it looked a little too much like a love story to me but my husband talked me into it and I loved it. I’m betting y’all will too. Love the movie reactions that you’re going. Great job!

For any waffling on the film, it's based on a graphic novel by Neil Gaiman ("American Gods", etc. He, Alan Moore, and Frank Miller are pretty much responsible for turning comics into a respected and serious medium, to the point of having entire multi-year university courses devoted to their work). It's also written by the two people who co-wrote "Kick-Ass" and a bunch of other crazy-innovative stuff, and directed by one of them, who also happens to be the guy who directed "Kick-Ass", etc., as well as producing "Snatch". If that doesn't convince you it's more than a paint-by-numbers love story, I don't know what will.

My roommate in college introduced me to this movie. When I heard the title I thought it was a Lovey Dovey movie too. He gave the same sales pitch on it that Grandpa did for the kid. I was amazed at how funny this movie was. I bought a copy for my daughter on her 3rd birthday which is a week before mine, and every year during our birthday's we still watch it. She still gets as excited when watching this, like it was her first time all over again, and she just turned 19 last month, her ol' softy Dad just turned 56. She loves Fezig(Andre) the Giant still, of course. She knew who he was right away, because we watched WWE together. Including reruns of old classic matches.

The perfect movie. There is something for everyone. Not only a love story between the characters but also between the grandpa and the kid (hence the as you wish line at the end that tears me up every time). Lots of life lessons. Just perfect.

Great reaction! The book is also EXCELLENT and has a LOT more about Inigo and Fezzik than made it into the movie. Really, The Princess Bride is one of those rare movies that is as good as the book it's based on. Christopher Guest, who plays Count Rugen (the six-fingered man) is an incredible actor. He disappeared so fully into the role of Count Rugen that at the cast party after they were done filming, Rob Reiner (the director, who had worked with Guest and been friends with him for YEARS) saw him there at the party and thanked him for coming out to support the film, having forgotten that he was IN THE FILM! Another incredible film from those great talents is This is Spinal Tap. Spinal Tap is to "rocumentary" movies what The Princess Bride is to fairytale romance movies. One more little tidbit of trivia about these films: when William Goldman (the writer of both the book and the screenplay) contacted Mark Knopfler (of Dire Straits) asking him to compose the score for The Princess Bride, Knopfler said he'd do it -- on one condition. His condition was that the hat Rob Reiner wore in This is Spinal Tap had to appear somewhere on the set of The Princess Bride. So, you can see it on the wall of the kid's room, the hat from This is Spinal Tap.

My Cousin Vinny- J/A, if you want to stay with the comedies and love sarcasm, man this movie is so recommended. One of the funniest movies of all time and also many quotable lines come from this movie. Many law firms use this movie explaining legal procedures cause this movie did it so well. I'm so glad you two reacted to this movie. I swear you're the only YT reactors who didn't figure out the "pirate" was Westley until the reveal. Oh and in interviews Andre the giant always said he so happy he was part of this movie. He truly is a gentle giant (RIP). Rob Reiner was the director and he did a few other great 80's movies. If you can convince Rob to watch a romcom, When Harry Met Sally is a great 80's movie directed by Rob and has enough comedy and story to entertain men as well as women.

I loved that they didn't figure out Westley was the "man in black" before the reveal. So many movie reactors spend their entire watch time trying to guess everything that's going to happen in every movie (to the point that I stopped watching some of them bc it got a little annoying) but I feel like J&A just live in the moment of each movie and experience it as it happens. Saw it in the original cinema run in 1987. Bought it on VHS when it came out (and VHS was EXPENSIVE back then). Got it on DVD. Went to the re-releases and quote-along showings at the cinema over the years. Yeah, I love this movie. One of my Top 5 all-time favourites. It gives me great joy.

By the way, Inigo Montoya was played by the actor Mandy Patinkin. His father died of cancer shortly before they shot the final sword duel scene. The one in which he says, "I want my father back, you son of a bitch." In case you're wondering where the intensity in that line came from.

This is one of my absolutely favorite movies! The Princess Bride was a book written by William Goldman who also wrote the screenplay for the movie. He wrote the part of the giant with Andre the giant in mind. The fencing scenes are some of my favorite scenes in the movie. Some really big name actors and comedians are in the movie. Mandy Patinkin(film and tv star), the legendary Peter Falk(film and tv star), Christopher Guest(the six fingered man), Chris Sarandon, Billy Crystal(Miracle Max), Carol Kane(Max's wife),Fred Savage(The Wonder Years tv show), Carey Elwes, Robin Wright Penn(her first major role),etc. Rob Reiner was the director. He also directed the movie Stand By Me. Robin Wright tells a sweet story about Andre the giant when they were filming that he put his hand over her head to keep her warm in between scenes. It was so big that it completely covered her head.

Men typically balk at watching it cause they think it's just a love story. Then they love it when they actually watch it. It was funny watching you two getting upset when you thought Wesley died and again when you thought Indigo Montoya died... you sounded like the little boy in the movie who didn't want to hear the book in the first place and then got all upset when he thought Wesley died. 😄

This has been a favorite of mine since it came out. I have passed it down to my kids (who are now in college and high school) and they insist that their friends watch it. The quotes float around the house all the time. We also hold our breaths when Westley dives into the lightning sand, to see if we can hold our breaths that long.

At the time it was released, the studio didn't know how to market it because they have to put their product in a known box to promote it. Comedy? Sure. Love story? Sure. Adventure? Sure. But it quickly gained a cult following. There are so many people who can recite every line along with the movie. I'm so glad you liked it. If you'd like more comedy: Monty Python and the Holy Grail for absurdist/surreal British comedy. Galaxy Quest for having fun with the genre of Star Trek and other space-type shows.

I remember so clearly the first time I saw this (nearly twenty-five years ago!), and how hard I laughed throughout. It was in high school, as our English teacher had decided we should write a review of it as a fun end-of-year project. She knew it so well she was suppressing laughter before the jokes even happened. I have since seen it hundreds of times, and it never gets old. Somehow, though it's simply written, it's comic genius, and it is one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen.
