Great song... but a really dumb video. They could have literally just cut together a bunch of video clips of them performing and strung them together, and it would have been a better video.

"What It Takes" was Aerosmith's 17th Billboard Hot 100 charting single, peaking @ #9 in 1990. It was their 6th Top 10 single. Over the time span from 1973 to 2001, Aerosmith charted 28 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, 20 in the Top 40, 8 in the Top 10 including one @ #1 ("I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" (4 weeks/1998).

@@adnap Longevity is more important. Huey Lewis and the News had about 12 top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 w/ three being chart-toppers. Yet all of them were in the 80s. Aerosmith had a top 10 hit as late as 2001.

I like their early stuff better. Specifically, "Make it", "Somebody", "One Way Street" (Tyler's best vocal track of all time in my opinion). I think Tyler's early vocals are better as well as the songwriting and instrumentation. It was at this mid 70's time period when Aerosmith was at the height of its popularity and success. Their "Rocks" album is pretty dynamic as well. The reaction circuit is stuck on the later, commercialized version of Aerosmith. The "made for TV and movies" version.

And then I come in this evening and see that you have reacted to it. Sometimes the universe listens!!!!! By the way, this is the shorter "radio edit" of the song. This is the Texas Longhorn Ballroom. My grandparents were managers there. I have many pictures of us there. They closed in the late 80s early 90s. Sat empty for a while, then Aerosmith production people bought it just to film this video and trash it. Turned around and sold it after. My grandparents meet the band Alabama there before they were famous. My mom has signed albums they gave to my Grampa. So many memories. The video games and pinball are the same ones. Played as a kid in the 70s 80s. The Dallas cowboys cheerleaders posters, checkered tablecloths, bull horns over the stage every single thing was exactly the same, left untouched for this video! I’m so lucky to have it!

Me and my mom were at the actual concert that is at the beginning and at the end of the video. We were in the upper deck next to the American flag. The concert was done at Reunion Arena in Dallas, Texas and the bar scene was done at an old bar near downtown Dallas called The Longhorn Ballroom. And all of the extras were told about the video through a local country radio station cause they wanted actual country fans in the video. At the concert they did like 8-9 encores so they could film the band getting on and off the stage. My mom went crazy when she saw Joe Perry come out in the long black jacket.

This is a great song. Glad y'all finally check it out. Now y'all should check out " Janie's got a Gun". It was written by Stevin Tyler and Joe Perry on a subject that nobody wants to talk about.

Tyler and the bassist, Hamilton wrote Janie. That’s his bass riff you hear on the song, came from Hamilton.

That last verse is probably in my top 10 song lyrics ever. . " Tell me that your body doesn't miss my touch tell me that my loving didn't mean that much tell me your not dying when you're crying for me!!!;"

I've got a request.... Pretty sure it would be a "bell ringer" for ya'll. The Hu - Wolf Totem. The Hu is an amazing Mongolian metal band that plays some traditional Mongolian instruments and has throat singing. You'll be amazed at the sound, it's very "tribal". I discovered them by accident last year and immediately fell in love with their music to the point I actually purchased their one and only album that was out at the time. Every song on the album is awesome! Rocklahoma is this weekend in Pryor Oklahoma and The Hu is playing on Sunday which is the final day of the 4 day concert. I can't go because I have to work but anyone going have a blast and be safe!

It's funny, if you asked a rock fan circa 1984 about Aerosmith, the response would have been " yeah they were a good 70s band, I guess they just couldn't make it in the 80s". Little did we know, Aerosmiths biggest hits and fame were COMING, not in the past

Steven Tyler's vocal range is C#3-D5; however, he actually reaches E6 in the song “Crazy”. He is an icon in ROCK. He has been the lead singer for Aerosmith since 1970 so he has been singing for them over 50 years he is now 74.
