Watching this reaction was particularly hard for me. My daughter's best friend, Logan Bowman, was abused and killed by his mother when they were in kindergarten. The teacher reported it so often and CPS did nothing to protect him. Concrete Angel was played at his memorial at the school. When my daughter graduated, she pushed for the school to call his name as a graduate in memorium. She never forgot him and at special moments in her life, she would always comment about the things Logan has missed.

I also knew this girl when I was in the first grade. She went threw that and she was getting molested. I made my teacher help her because she didn't deserve it, I was also going through the same but I wasn't worried about me. I had help and protection but she didn't, so I had to do something for her. But I'll never forget her, may she rest in peace!

It saddens me to hear the CPS was unable to help your daughter's friend Logan. My Father was a Social Worker and a Superviser of CPS and other divisions of DSHS for 30+ years and I understand how devastating the loss of a child to abuse can be. Please remember that many Counties don't have the money to get more social workers and some of the workers have up to 30 cases at a time. DSHS needs to be overhauled and more federal monies need to given to the poorer Counties and States to help those that truly need it.

@@elainebundy4226 what happened to you and your sister is horrible, no children should go threw this. I knew this girl in elementary both of us were going threw almost the same thing. I made sure that my 1st grade teacher did something to help her, even though I was going threw the same I wasn't worried about myself. She didn't make it and I promised I wouldn't forget her. This other girl had the same name as her she died of leukemia. I had a dream with them on the 30 year anniversary, when I woke up I was listening to this song I was crying for about 2 hours straight. I couldn't stop crying because I promised them I wouldn't forget them and I did. I never forgot them two, I was told not to talk about things like that but I learned if you talk or cry about it helps you not to hold on to that guilt and ways you down. Talking about it cleanses your soul, because as a child you get told to be quiet and not say anything. Don't ever talk about it, they'll tell you lies and make you feel like the lier. What your doing is the best thing that you've done, you took back the power that they weren't going to allow you to hold. Your a strong person and keep doing what your doing because you can help out someone by expressing what had happened to you and your sister. I'm sorry that had happened to you and your sister, she's at rest. She's always with you and she knows its ok. It was her time to go and she doesn't want you to hold on to any guilt. I'm a lot like the long Island medium Teresa Caputo. I can communicate with the dead as well. Your sister came threw me to give you the messsge.

I will tell you a story. My mom reported that this boy Carlos was being abused. CSD went out to the kid's house and investigated. The house was clean and there was lots of food and both parents had good jobs and they decided to leave the kid in the home. My mom reported this again 3 more times and the kid was finally removed. His grades went through the roof and he started playing with a whole different set of kids. This was in the '80s. This kid is now a city council member in our city and trying to get on the school board. All because my mom didn't give up on him.

This is literally likely the saddest song in all of popular music history. It's usually at or near the top of any and every list of most tragic ballads. Amber's reaction is completely normal and natural. Thousands, if not millions of people have cried to this song before. But it's not just sad, it's important. Hearing it and absorbing it makes you a better person, a deeper and more empathetic person.

Why I wore long sleeves in summer. I was afraid to speak because nothing I said was right and I didn't know when it would turn physical. But I broke the cycle of abuse with my children. I'm sorry you went through that as well... The sixties and seventies were a different time. My brother and I were abused sexually by my dad and others. We had no one to turn to, and we couldn't escape. Mom didn't believe us, so we had to figure it out on our own at seven and eight years of age. I, too, eventually became a teacher, and I can see "signs" kids display. At first it took great strength to approach, but I'm not afraid anymore. There are so many kids going through this crude abuse in one form or another. Just because one is a teacher does not mean that they have a compassionate heart or are willing to approach a student and take notice of something is off. Some of these teachers may be the only hero these kids ever meet in their lives.

Music is so important and impactful because it tells, not only the beautiful and fun stories, but the also the difficult and heartbreaking stories that need to be told. I was a real Martina McBride fan and when this song came out it was an incredible blow to the heart for so many people. People speculated and tried to find less painful meaning in the lyrics, but then when you saw the video there was no denying that Martina really was telling the unthinkable story.

Now being blissfully married to a zero abusave hubby for nearly 16 years now with a beautiful 14 year old daughter, I have successfully broken the cycle of abuse with the help of real friends, 7 greuling years of classes and therapy, and a clean slate start in a new location with CRDVA's help.

As much as I almost feel doing so is in poor taste, there is another song you should hear on a touchy subject. It would not be for Female Fridays, but I really think you should hear Runaway Train by Soul Asylum. IT is about teenage runaways, so if you choose not to do it I would completely understand. The good news about it is that a few runaways were reunited with their families as a result of the music video. So - give it a try.

I've heard this song more than I can count but I cry everytime. No child should have to go through with this. When my daughter started to school she had a bruise on her arm where she fell into a seizure. 2 days later I got called up to the school for a meeting. Come to find out I was meeting with the principal and child services because the teacher reported the bruise on her arm. I guess they were shocked by my reply cause I thanked them for checking into the issue of the bruise on my daughters arm and that they were concerned about her safety. I explained to them what happened and the school did have on record that she had Epilepsy and the protocols etc. The lady from child services said she would like to do a home visit. I said sure when would you like to come. She asked if we could go then I said absolutely. So after the home inspection, meeting with me and my daughter at different times and talking to my daughters doctor the felt safe to say there was no abuse and closed the case. The next day I asked the principal if I could talk with her teacher. Just so happened her planning period was 1st period. So I went into her room. She knew who I was. Bless her heart I could tell she was preparing for a confrontation. I told her that I was happy to catch her that particular morning and that I would like to talk with her. You could see her defenses coming down. I just looked and her and told her how thankful I was that she was my daughters teacher. I told her that I appreciated her calling child services to make sure my daughter was OK. That told me right there that she cared about her and the rest of her students. We both hugged each other. Then I told her I knew it was her planning period so I wasn't going to keep her. I just wanted to make sure she knew how thankful I was that she loved and cared so much for the children in her classroom. ❤

“As teachers we are their first line of defense” ~ Amber, when you said this during one of the pauses, my heart filled with such RESPECT and love for what y’all do each day as teachers. Our school has the motto written everywhere (on banners in the buildings and on all their social media platforms where so many of the older students themselves have so much exposure to)…”See something, say something” just as you referenced toward the end of the video. This has ALWAYS been a gut wrenching video/song that I watched one time when it came out, and though I’ve seen where others have reacted to it yours is the only one I’ve watched and only the 2nd time I could bring myself to watch the video. I only did it because I’m a new subscriber and I’ve seen some of your other reactions, heard you talk about being a coach, teachers, and parents. She (pat) responds appropriately. This sedated response (most of society #kidsincages ) to the systemic, economic power structure that creates the conditions for brutality to occur. It happens at every age level in western society. Until people demolish the power structure, abuse of power and exploitation and brutality will continue. It’s not good enough, this thing people do, that just blame parents for abuse without addressing the structure of life surrounding the situation the people are occupying. The only thing that’s hard about addressing the situation in a real way is that the reality is quite horrific.

Pat Benetar’s Hell is for Children was so incredibly shocking and amazing for me. It was the first song I heard that talked about child abuse. But there’s a version that has a little bit of Suffer the Little Children before the main song starts. And that chills me to the core every time I hear it. I lost my godson to child abuse and that version became almost a prayer and a cry at the same time. It may be painful, but this song….you will want to react to it - because it needs to be shared again with the world. I love Martina McBride and hadn’t heard of this song. Every time I hear this song I find myself crying my eyes out! This one really punches you in the gut and just hearing and seeing how much you care is just wonderful. Another one that is a guaranteed tear jerker is "Don't Take the Girl" by Tim McGraw.

Speaking as someone who came so damn close to this ending, I absolutely loathed my teachers. I had so many teachers scream at me for sleeping in class, having no homework, or generally being so quiet that I won't even do work on the board because I just wanted silence and peace and quiet. I had friends parents that ignored it, neighbors ignored it to the point of actively telling my mom and I that we'd 'hurt their property value' if they did anything. The number of people that just let it go, no matter the consequences on others, is terrifyingly accurate with this song.

It's heartbreaking and disgusting how many adults ignore child abuse. I can remember standing in front of 2 police officers, covered in blood and bruises, being told by them that if I'd just obey, my drug addict stepfather wouldn't have to "discipline" me.

I experienced a lot of the same. I had a handful of good teachers though and they saved my life.

Me too. I did have one who would comb my hair and hold me. She'd was my face and knees. Even brought socks just for me. I felt her love. It meant everything to me.

Pat Benetar wrote Hell is for Children about abuse as well. It's more rock based. Kudos to you both being teachers. I know it's not always easy but you are giving a safe space for an entire day. I've been worried about those kids ever since schools closed due to covid.

I’m so glad y’all seen that the boy was an angel, I’ve watched countless reactions to this song because I love it and you won’t believe how many people miss that fact, cause they are so upset the little girl dies which is completely natural it’s just a bit less sad when you know she’s going to a place with love in abundance. Love you guys!
