Exactly. I remember seeing them at a New Music Seminar in NY just before this album was about to be released. Then, Living Colour visited my university at played a show at our main campus ballroom. Great guys and great band. They were ahead of their time and got drowned by Grunge. I worked at a music store when this was released. It was a huge seller.
@purplebeard1526
@purplebeard1526 3 ай бұрын
@@seanswinton6242 Hmmm, IDK about being drowned out by grunge. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Living_Colour_discography I had to go back to their album dates for a minute. '88 with Vivid was a breakthrough with all kinds of sounds. 2 years later they put together a no less diversified but more socially conscious Time's Up. Times Up just didn't have that mega hit like Cult was. 93's Stain, for anyone that wasn't a true fan via the fist two albums, was a very experimental album with little pop appeal. It was so "against type" of the first two that along with the change to grunge/alternative going on at that time, it couldn't make a lot of headway. Hell, it took them 10 years to put out Collideoscope (2003). By then, you had to dig to find out if they had a new album out. The Chair in the Doorway in '09 was pretty good. Shade from 2017 is pretty solid as well.

So glad this very much underrated band is getting more airtime on Rob Squad. I have a terrible memory, so please excuse if I;ve said this before. There is something deeper in these lyrics that call out to natives of any land, in our case Native Americans, which includes Jordan (no disrespect Amber, love you). And Im going to throw in a well needed edit here I should have made the first time. Loving our fellow human and even ourself, is about recognizing what EVERYONE of us bring to the table. We ALL have something to offer. And that is part of it. Loving a land and being proud of ancestral ties is NEVER a disrespect to anyone. Its just a celebration of people connected to a land, that EVERYONE is welcome to celebrate. Im not Australian, but when I listen to that Midnight Oil videos, something about seeing those kids touches my heart. Anyways, back to to the topic... Guys!! So glad you finally got back to LC. I saw them live here in Adelaide, Australia late last year and 40 years later they're still unbelievable. Go see them if they're near you. Please check out "Open Letter To A Landlord", "Middle Man", "Type", "Pride" and "Desperate People ".There's so many to listen to, honestly.

How about reacting to Middle Man next? It's a rocker with a great guitar riff for sure. Type is another good one.

I just saw them headline at Sweetwater Sound in Fort Wayne, IN and they have grown from amazing to GOD-TIER! Everyone of them (different bassist, but the other 3 are the same) are at the peak of their careers. And, fun fact, their current bass player, Doug Wimbish played in the Sugarhill Rhythm Section (Sugarhill gang, Grandmaster Flash) and was on many early hip hop tracks like The Message, White Lines and Apache. Again, GOD-TIER musicians. If you get a chance to see them live, it will change your life.

Genius track. Fun Fact : as mentioned previously, Corey (vocals) was in the movie Platoon and he was the first one to get killed, as was the way in those days!

One of my all time favorite bands. They have a ton of good music to listen to, and I love that Corey's rocking a Mario jersey!🐧

Corey Glover was great in Platoon as Francis. He doesn’t die but self inflicts a stab wound in his leg at the end of their last battle and he and Charlie Sheen fly off together knowing they’re out of the war since they were both wounded twice. As good as an actor he is a superior front man and singer. Why they never exploded in popularity as a group I’ll never understand. The band and the singer are incredible. There are more songs to check out. Keep up the great work. You may not realize the impact you have on your fans. It’s a daily listen for me. If you haven’t reviewed Platoon you should. Great War movie.
