I mean, Michael Jackson is lumped into "yacht rock" but you'd never say that was the actual genre of his music. You'd say he was pop/R&B. H&O definitely fall under the broad banner along with every other vaguely soft and 70s-ish music but, when it comes to the actual specific genres beneath that banner, Hall & Oates were usually classified as "blue-eyed soul," "Philly soul," "adult-oriented rock," and "soft rock." He also really likes when they bend those high strings for that bluesy feel, especially when they keep bending the same note(s) over and over before releasing the tension by falling into the rest of the riff. But, then, so does everybody really, which is why guitarists do that. I just mention it because when those high strings start bending, you know Jordan is gonna be wearing that stank face.
