Wow. I'm ashamed to admit that of all the female artists I've recommended, somehow Norah eluded me. Thanks to those who requested this! This was the title track off Norah's debut album. "Don't Know Why" was a smash hit off the same album. She later had #1 Adult Contemporary hits with "Sunrise", "What Am I To You?", "Thinking About You" and "Chasing Pirates". Honestly, there were not many solo female artists in the first few years of this millennium bigger than Norah... AND she's also a pretty fair actress. She was in a very sweet film called "My Blueberry Nights" that's definitely worth watching.

Norah Jones is an artist. Hits put her center stage at first. Talent and taste keep her going. She has already had and will continue to have a long career because she is not about hits at all, but quality. Pure quality. Too many people only reference the songs from her first album. They don't get her.
@Requiemslove
@Requiemslove 11 ай бұрын
@@unclebobunclebob ^ This. It became apparent to me a long time ago that Norah Jones doesn't "need" hits. Whether her albums fly off the shelves or not, they're always going to be quality. You can't fake talent such as that. Jones is the perennial 80 to 90+ musician in so far as how well her music rates. And, way I see it, even if the reviewer in question isn't strictly a fan of Jones, the ratings almost never going to be, in a star rating, below 3 stars. For the majority however it's usually 4+ stars or 80+, or much more. I don't think she knows how to do "bad" music.

@@dharris8849 There was a hard core Texan who used to come into the bar and bitch and complain about everything. You hear his same bitches a hundred times if you heard them once. When I played this song on the juke box, I was sure he'd bitch because is wasn't Hank. Instead, he liked it. "It was different but I like it!" This surprised me. My current girl friend is always accusing me of something one of her ex-husbands did. It's taken her 14 years to melt her cold, cold heart but she's coming around. It took a HELL of a lot of patience, with an occasional slip of temper by myself. I'd leave and patch things up in the rising sun. NORA is magic!

Only Nora could cover this in such a different style and make it work. She is a transplanted Texas country girl kid of being out of place in N.Y. City. I envision her playing in some lonely piano bar with other refugees from the chaos of the Big Apple. It is either very, very late at night or early in the morning when people are recovering from having too much fun the night before.

@@jen_alanfromchicago53 not to split hairs, but I wasn’t questioning her critical acclaim or her number of recordings. There are far less talented female singers who have sold circles around her. In other words, she deserved much more radio play than she got. Her recording career has spanned a few decades and she continues to be noticed for her talent, but ignored by the mainstream. “Don’t Know Why” came on early one morning as I was getting ready for work, I was hooked from the first few bars of the song. This album became the soundtrack for falling in my wife, and it was on repeat at our wedding. This song embodies everything I’ve ever felt about my wife. This came out at the height of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera and some of the most vapid, soulless corporate garbage ever to hit the airwaves. She was and still is a breath of fresh air. A real musician in a sea of auto tuned hacks.

Her album was one of the very last to have massive sales in 2003. Starting in 2000, downloading was taking a huge toll on CD business and it got worse and worse, quick.. By 2006, large CD corporations like Sam Goody and Tower, were out of business completely. Sam Goody had a store in every mall in America, then they were just GONE. This CD was one of very few who kept CD stores alive a little longer

Norah jones just takes you away… and makes you feel Listen to „sunrise“ I love that song so much cause at a rainy day we buried our friend at the age of 22. I was so „nervous“ getting dressed for the funeral and sunrise was played on the radio and I don’t lie… the sun begun to shine! So this song will always brings me to tears

Beautiful song. She is such a great singer, I remember when her first album came out she won every single Grammy category she was nominated for. Her fist single was I don't know why, it was another smashing hit back then, also she has a song with Dolly Parton, fun and upbeat, it's called Creeping In

This CD was always in my CD changer back in the early 2000s. It’s so good, and her music is timeless. I could play it today and it wouldn’t seem dated or “old.” Edit: While all the songs off her debut album were great “Sunrise, from her second album, is my favorite!

One quick observation: J, I know you've asked before about drummers who use brushes instead of sticks. The "swish" sound of the drums in this song is what results from brushes. Not heard much today, but they are a mainstay in genres like jazz and bluegrass. And I'm on board with recommending "Don't Know Why" for Nora Jones, possibly her best known signature songs.

this and "don't know why" are my two favorite songs of hers. I always felt like this video was off, this is a rainy night with the lights off kind of song. So beautiful. So simplistic. So haunting. Can't thank you enough for doing this one. Do Don't Know Why next, you won't be disappointed.

This was one of my momma’s favorite artists, it will forever remind me of her. We owned a little furniture resale shop with a gem and bead room inside where I sold and held classes on beadwork. This was one of the albums that was on her rotation, on days that I was there by myself I played Prince of course 😉. I lost my momma a year ago today, October 18. She was my very best friend, I miss her so very much! I love you mom!!! ❤

I've enjoyed looking back again at this reaction video. The thing about Norah Jones back then is that she was just on ANOTHER LEVEL to everyone else. She literally was. There was no one out there like her, or even remotely close to being like her. And truth be told even when other, similar acts started to come on through, none of them "quite" had Norah's magic. Look at your Katie Melua's, look at your Kelly Clarksons, sure, they have talent and they have good voices, but honest to God they just can't "sing" like Jones can. She was so effortless, she made it look so easy, all while singing with a grace and quiet understated passion that no one else even knew how to begin to understand. And it's not like that's even gone away, or changed, or that anyone has really "caught up" to what Jones is about. She's STILL like that when she's at her best. And while I wouldn't go so far to say that there's no other beautiful voices, there are many, in fact. But none are "quite" like Jones. Not just a beautiful voice, but she makes it look as easy as literally breathing, and her's is a voice that sooth's you to your very core. It's a wonderful gift she has. Which is how I know where Jay was at, during this reaction video. Oh yes, I've been there before. I go there as often as I possibly can because there's nothing in this life finer than getting lost in the most wonderful voice the world has ever known.
