One of the music industry's great tragedies... they hit it big right after lead singer Bradley Nowell died of a heroin overdose at age 28 (and the band called it quits immediately thereafter). "What I Got" was their first huge airplay hit, followed immediately by "Santeria", "Wrong Way" and "Doin' Time". However, if you do another Sublime song, it has to be "Badfish". It has a cool, smooth, reggae vibe that will make you want to kick back on the beach!

While the band was really over, without Bradley, they really did not call it quits. There was the Long Beach Dub All Stars which had the surviving members plus a others who guested on Sublime tracks. There was also Long Beach short Bus aka Shortbus. Currently (before the pandemic)they still toured with a new singer. Called Sublime with Rome. But it will never be what they were originally.

It blows my fucking mind how many people today have never even heard of Sublime. They were such a legendary group. They were _huge_ in their day, and their lyrics are extremely real and relatable to a lot of people, back then and today both. It’s even more mindblowing because everyone I’ve seen react to it loves it and is always smiling by the end. So it still vibes with people, obviously. It’s so weird that they aren’t a household name.

Been waitin’ on the Sublime discovery. The reason the sound is hard to describe is because it’s distinctly their own. There are influences of rock, reggae, ska, pop, rap, punk, blues, Cali surf, and Spanish language music. I consider the death of Bradley Nowell to be one of great losses in music. I feel like they had so much more to say.
@karldammann3 жыл бұрын
Not gonna lie, when it got to the part with Lou dog I actually teared up. There was definitely some more left in the tank, and it hit me that not just the people who were around don't get to experience it, but for everyone who comes along and discovers the band for the first time, they don't get to see where this thing would have gone either, and that's a real f%^&*(@ shame.

Then Wrong Way 🙌🏼
@anthonyv69623 жыл бұрын
It's a mixed bag because almost none of the material is original. Most are one of the following, a cover, a cover of the lyrics over sublime music or over lengthy samples. I like the band but they are more cut and past than original material.
@donaldjohnson11483 жыл бұрын
@Stacey Capito would Sublime be considered Ska? I thought Ska distinctly required the use brass horns most notably trumpets. I remember them getting categorized as hip -hop and sometimes rap/rock. Interesting.
@scapito3 жыл бұрын
@@donaldjohnson1148 I don't think Ska requires horns, but they are sometimes included. I think of Ska as a sub genre of calypso/reggae with a rock beat.
