I think you’d really dig “Round Here”, It really showcases the lead singer’s (Adam Duritz) voice, which is so captivating and emotional. It was one of their first hits, alongside Mr. Jones. ✌️💙

"Mr. Jones" is Marty Jones, a friend of lead singer Adam Duritz. Before Duritz joined Counting Crows, they were in a band together called The Himalayans. On an episode of VH1's Storytellers, Adam explained: "It's really a song about my friend Marty and I. We went out one night to watch his dad play, his dad was a Flamenco guitar player who lived in Spain (David Serva), and he was in San Francisco in the mission playing with his old Flamenco troupe. And after the gig we all went to this bar called the New Amsterdam in San Francisco on Columbus and we got completely drunk. And Marty and I sat at the bar staring at these two girls, wishing there was some way we could go talk to them, but we were too shy. We kept joking with each other that if we were big rock stars instead of such loser, low-budget musicians, this would be easy. I went home that night and I wrote a song about it.

“August and Everything After” by Counting Crows is one of the seminal albums of the 1990s. Other great, very famous songs from that record, “Round Here”, “Omaha”, and “Rain King”, but my favorite Counting Crows track is “Anna Begins”. It’s a fantastic deep cut from a fantastic band. They had a couple of other songs that were hits, “A Long December” is probably their most famous.

As someone who has seen CC around 10 times live, the thing that really makes Adam unique as a singer is he can sing the same song 100 different times and sing it differently every time, with melodic and rhythmic variations throughout, and it will sound amazing every time. He is a singing savant.

Definitely one of the biggest bands of the 90s, and right in the same alternative vibe with Goo Goo Dolls, matchbox twenty (Rob Thomas's band), and the Dave Matthews Band. Adam Duritz definitely had one of the most distinctive voices of that decade! "Mr. Jones" was their debut single, in 1993. They followed it up with some tremendous tracks like "Round Here", "Einstein on the Beach", "Rain King", "A Long December", and "Hanginaround". While I'm at it, I would recommend "Bent" by matchbox twenty, "Ants Marching" by Dave Matthews Band, "King of New Orleans" by Better Than Ezra, "Where the River Flows" by Collective Soul, "The Way" by Fastball, and "Walk on the Ocean" by Toad the Wet Sprocket. Those are some GREAT 90's jams! (Bonus trivia - this song was produced by T-Bone Burnett, who was in Bob Dylan's band in the 1970s.)

Dang… I’m listening to this reaction and getting tears in my eyes. Even thirty years (!!) later this brings back such a visceral memory, and I can literally smell my hair products, face lotion, and foundation (Covergirl Clean with Noxzema, anyone??) from back in high school when I’d play this album getting ready for school. I don’t think I’d want to relive my teen years again but maybeeee just one day? Or week? In any case, this singer-songwriter type music, like grunge, is soooo quintessentially 90s. And I love that you love it!

I remember when this album, and especially this song, first came out. There was NOTHING "hidden" about it. MTV had it on heavy repeat (back when they still knew what the M stood for in their name). I didn't get swept away like the rest of the world seemed to be, but the band endures and I've grown to appreciate them more as I've gotten older. Mrs. Potter's Lullaby, in particular, is a remarkable song. Eight minutes of repetitive music with no musical solos, and you get to the end wondering why the song ended so quickly. There are several Rob Squad has reacted to that need more attention than they've gotten, and even more that have yet to make the channel. There is no shortage of Counting Crows songs that deserve a reaction. Random tangent: I hate the song "Big Yellow Taxi". Been covered a thousand times, and even the most popular versions (Amy Grant) always turn my stomach. Then I heard Counting Crows cover it. Don't ask me why, but not only do I not hate it, I really, really like their cover. It is another on the long list of songs that would make a good reaction video.

Raining in Baltimore from the album August and Everything After and A Long December from the album Recovering the Satellites are a must. Counting Crows have a story behind almost every one of their songs. In case you're interested, the story behind Mr. Jones was about him and his friend Marty Jones. Marty Jones and Adam Duritz (Counting Crows' lead singer) were friends that played together in a band before Counting Crows called The Himalayans. Jones' dad played guitar for a flamenco dancer in a bar called The New Amsterdam, so the first lines of the song are quite literal. Duritz and Jones would hang out in the bar and talk about being rock stars and how cool their lives would be and how everyone would love them. They'd look at the pretty girls at the bar and talk about how easy it would be to talk to them and how the girls would be all over them if they were famous rock stars. And you're right, Adam Duritz has a way of conveying feelings and emotions through their songs which is amazing. August and Everything After is one of the greatest albums ever. I definitely recommend looking into them more. Round Here and A Long December are 2 of their more popular songs, but they have tons of great ones.

Check his early albums like "Moondance" and others. He is a bit more jazzy. His 90's albums jazzy and bluesy around 1993 and beyond. A greatest hits would could another approach.
