Years ago we veterans were called up on stage at a concert featuring the Marvlettes, the Shirelles , the Coasters, and the Platters. I got to dance with Shirley Ellis when they sang their hit Soldier Boy. Great memory.

Yep, Amber..Motown's 2nd number 1 Billboard hit, and the girls contributed lots of background vocals for all the other label acts, too. Back then everything was recorded on 4-track tape, such a natural, live sound that today's music has lost due to over-production and no real instruments. I highly suggest u make your next Motown song The Temptations 1969 studio version of "Ball Of Confusion", Psychedelic soul/funk to the max with lyrics still relevant today!!

In the 80s I lived in a small town. A lot of things I wanted were just a 5 hour drive away at the nearest big city. Ordering stuff to come in the mail, "Please allow 6-8 weeks for delivery." So if you did order something from a catalog you had forgotten what you ordered by the time it arrived. Of course that made getting it more fun on the day it came.

Motown's girl groups contributed so much to the music of the 50s and 60s. You might think that you and your preferences have grown and moved on but when you hear one of those oldies you tap your foot and smile through the whole song. The great stuff never loses its appeal. Rock on chil'un ! 😊

The Marvelettes were Great. Please listen to more of their music like: Don't Mess With Bill, My Baby Must Be A Magician, The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game. Also another girl group that was very popular was Martha and The Vandellas. Some of their songs were My Baby Loves Me, Come And Get These Memories, What Am I Going To Do Without Your Love. All these songs are Great and you guys will enjoy them!

Portugal the Man's song "Feel it Still" line "ooh I'm a rebel just for kicks, yeah" is the same tune as "ohh, wait a minute Mr. Post Man."

Americans: black, white, yellow, red, and brown along with pond jumping pale, have enriched our history with unforgettable music. Timelessly wonderful.

Nothing like old Motown. I still have my records from the 60's.

This is a high water mark in the history of Motown. The way the lead vocal plays off against the backing voices became a trademark of both male and female Motown groups.

More Motown? WHAT DOES IT TAKE (Junior Walker & The All-Stars), WHAT BECOMES OF THE BROKEN HEARTED (Jimmy Ruffin) are two of my absolute favorites. Pure soul. And the Beatles did an excellent version of Please Mr Postman. John Lennon's voice rocks, which you already know.
