Billy Gibbons is a huge car enthusiast, and this 1932 Ford Custom is one of his prized possessions. Videos like this are why MTV was invented. And ZZ Top was already about 15 or more years into their career, so they weren't really "young" at this point. They were well established, but the MTV thing was new for them.

Billy Gibbons was originally in a band called the Moving Sidewalks. He hooked up with Frank Beard and Michael "Dusty" Hill to form ZZ Top. Billy says they chose the name so their records would be in the very last record bin in the music stores, so they wouldn't be overlooked and were easy to find. Anyone who ever shopped at The Wherehouse or Musicland knows that strategy worked.

Their music has always been amazing, but they tapped into a new audience with these videos and the MTV world loved it and so the videos took on the theme and the car was the main attraction. This was their first album and first single where they went with a very very basic beat and some synths and some 80's style and it took us fans a bit of time to adjust but we got used to it. I only rarely changed the station on this song (mainly if already heard it twice that same day) and most of us older fans got used to it in fairly short order.

Best ZZ Top trivia ever..... The iconic beards ZZ Top are known for was an accident. After one of their albums they took a break and didn't see each other for over a year, when they met back up to record again, both guitarists had just happened to grow chest length beards during the break. They kept them afterwards for the unique look. The great irony? Their drummer, who didn't have beard.... is named Jim Beard.

Love ZZ Top, Legs, Sharp Dressed Man, Gimme All Your Lovin, these 3 music videos were everywhere back in the 80s. Never really thought of it until now I realize its a music video and not based in reality but if it was, how the heck would you get all three of those ladies in a 2 seat car on arrival and then Mr. Man AND all three ladies inside on departure without using the rumble seat (Yes rumble seat, its a thing, look it up)

They were a boogie band from Texas. That's where they developed that distinct sound with the distinct bass riffs. All the videos from their Eliminator album have that ZZ Top Car theme.

My 1st vacation ever in 1975, we drove thru Texas on the way to New Orleans. A younger ZZ Top was on the radio. Maybe sounding better than their later, more commercialized sound (i.e., Sharp Dressed Man and later.) I saw them in concert in Omaha in 1978. This was the biggest party I had or have ever been to.
