It was quite a popular show, so popular that many country superstars of the day made guest appearances (usually to do a musical number at the end). The list of stars included Donna Fargo, Hoyt Axton, The Oak Ridge Boys (twice), Roy Orbison, Buck Owens, Mel Tillis, Tammy Wynette, and Dottie West. They were so enthused to have Loretta Lynn (a huge fan of the show) on board that they built an ENTIRE EPISODE around her. No other real-life star got that VIP treatment by the show. My parents played country and even backed her up when she first got started. I saw Loretta back in the 90’s and reminded her and she asked me “How’s yer Mana and them?” It made my day that she remembered them. One more thing- that “guitar on his lap” is actually something different. What that guy was playing was a “pedal steel guitar”. My brother Mark Ferguson, was a top pedal steel player as well as my step dad, Buzz Evans. Mark played w Mickey Gilley who had 17 number 1 country hits. Mark was w Gilley for over 7 years, until my brothers untimely death in 1992. A pedal steel is a very intricate instrument, some have 2 neck’s, 10 foot pedals & 4 knee levers- Like Mark & Buzz played.🎵

Some of my all time favorites from Loretta Lynn are: Don’t Come Home a Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind), What Sundown Does to You, Happy Birthday, Fist City, The Pill, Lyin’, Cheatin’ Woman Chasin’ Honky Tonkin’ Whiskey Drinkin’ You (about her husband), Love is the Foundation, Your Squaw is On the Warpath, I Wanna Be Free, Trouble in Paradise, Portland Oregon (featuring Jack White) and so many more!

When I was a boy in the early 60s all the girls seemed to love Tammy wynette... I must have heard D.I.V.O.R.C.E a million times

Great artist and song choice, you guys. And I'm glad you chose a live version -- those musicians are first class, especially the pedal steel guitar player (the one that's on his lap). Hey, it's great to repeat an artist, but there are some great one's you haven't gotten to once yet. Try Laura Nyro -- please, pretty please--("Eli's comin" and "Stoned Soul Picnic") and Phoebe Snow ("Poetry Man") and Grace Jones ("Pull Up to my Bumper"), Patty Smith ("Because the Night"). Try 'em. They aren't country, but they're all great. Keep up the positive vibes! We all need 'em!

You don’t mess with Loretta! She had Don’t Go Home Drinking with Lovin’ On Your Mind, Fist City, The Pill. Then her and Conway Twitty had a series of a duets that are fun: Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man, After The Fire is Gone. My favorite is As Soon As I Hang Up The Phone.

Her and Conway also had You're the Reason Our Kids are Ugly great song

My mother grew up not far from Loretta in Eastern KY. Patsy Cline was close friends with Loretta. Southern Belle, pishaw. These were hard-working, blue-collar women, not some pampered Scarlett O'Haras. My maternal line has been having family reunions in Eastern KY for over 60 years it is the land of The Hatfields & McCoys, not some fantasy Tara.

Her song The Pill was groundbreaking. And Tammy Wynette is another good one

Songs by Loretta that are in the same vein as "you ain't woman enough" "fist city" "your squaw is on the warpath tonight" "don't come home a drinking (with lovin' on your mind" "one's on the way" these are all classic Loretta Lynn hits.

Thank you for some legendary country! I really hope that y'all continue to do this. I love all genres of music, but old country is my favorite. Please check out Conway Twitty, lay You Down. Waylon jennings, Amanda, you absolutely have to do Willie Nelson, Angel flying too close to the ground, and even more Johnny Cash. Country music paved the way for rock music, and even Johnny Cash is in the Rock and roll Hall of fame.

Lorretta is as real and genuine as it gets. A poor girl raised in the back wilderness of Kentucky during the depression no less. She wrote her own songs out of experience. Fist city was one of them. Once she played it on a tv show and in the end she was asked was that actually aimed at somebody and as she was walking off looked back and said you doggon right.

Oh my if you liked this about a strong southern woman you must listen to Fist City! Loretta had many ground breaking songs.

I'm just seeing this and Ms Loretta passed away the other day so I thought I'd share this little story about her. I had the honor to meet Ms. Loretta, in the mid 90's. While it was a brief chat I told her how she inspired me as a male. She simply replied how could she inspire a young man in his mid 20's. I said well I've grown up listening to your music seen the movie about your life and all that type stuff, but your song You ain't Woman Enough describes the kind of women I want in my life. Her reply was well if they ain't willing to fight for ya they ain't worth havin. Rest well Ms. Loretta you have more than earned your place in the heavens.

Loretta Lynn has many hit records, mostly written by her. Don’t Come Home a Drinkin, Ones on the Way, Hey Loretta, Rated X, You’re Lookin at Country, Your Squaw is on the Warpath…Wings Upon Your Horns, Love Is the Foundation, They Don’t Make ‘em Like My Daddy Anymore…There are many more.

@moon lite I've noticed similar non action to bands like Cheap Trick, Foreigner and a whole collection of 60s artists. Groups with multiple #1s, scores of top tens are ignored while minor groups are given 2nd 3rd and 4th listens. Guessing you have to be a Patron to get a song reviewed and they all ask for the same things over and over.

The twang Loretta sings with is natural. Listen to her talk sometime. She is just a natural talent!

Loretta also has a sister “Crystal Gale” who had a couple hits. Her biggest hit was “Don’t it make my brown eyes blue”. But Loretta was a queen of country.

Actually I grew up during the era Crystal Gale became a big star in her own right. She had a whole string of hits, not as many as Loretta, but a bunch!
