The genre is "Philly Soul", a dominant sound of the '70s. They met in college in Philadelphia and formed their band during that time. With mega-success that stretched halfway through the '80s--they had SIX #1 Hit Songs overall--Hall & Oates is the greatest selling duo of all time. Try my favorite song of theirs, and one of their six #1 hits, "Out of Touch", you'll love it!

Daryl Hall, the blonde dude is the lead most of the time. This genre, which I hate categorizing is Blue Eyed Soul. But like Billy Joel says, it's still Rock and Roll to me. 🤗🤔😎

This song brings me back to being a kid swinging on a swing listening to my transistor radio and this song was on. And I was singing at the top of my lungs. For some reason I remember that from nearly 50 years ago.

@@scottwilson8039 everyone is a little bit wrong here. “Every Time You Go Away” was written by Daryl Hall and was on Hall & Oates’ 1980 album “Voices” but wasn’t released as a single. Paul Young recorded it in 1985 and had a big hit with it.

So glad you found Hall and Oats! After going through their songs (or most of) that are suggested to you, THEN you should should do "Darryl's House" series. You can basically pick any of them - find an artist you like or take a chance on someone you don't know. You will then see how amazing Darryl Hall is ... musically, generous to his guests (no ego there), and just a nice guy. I discovered this and was so pleasantly surprised ... and I grew up with them! Don't forget to keep them in your journey - they helped define the music of the day! Have fun, here and with your new son.
