You and I are just a few years apart and I’ve been to decades of concerts. This is my favorite Foreigner tune but I was a major Journey fan when Steve Perry was with them. Still a fan of Perry, he’s released 2 albums in 2018 and is still quite good, an understatement! Neal Schon is just shy of Carlos Santana and plays the guitar almost as well as Santana.

This was the one and only #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart for Foreigner. This would sadly lead to Lou Gramm's departure from the group. Lou had written the song with Mick Jones but it is only credited to Jones as songwriter. As Gramm recalls, "Mick's home was about 15 minutes from mine. I felt like we spent so much time writing and putting the song together, it was magic." When Gramm met Jones to see the percentages that each person contributed, Gramm had put 35% for him; 65% for Jones. Jones said it was more like 95% Jones; 5% Gramm. It pissed Gramm off so much that he said if Jones truly believed he only wrote 5% then he should take it all, which he did & Gramm left the group to pursue a solo career. One fun fact about the choir ... you hear a female's vocal towards the end singing "Let's talk about love" and that vocal is none other than Miss Jennifer Holliday (Dreamgirls fame).

@Stuart Bloch - Ain't that the truth! LoL. Tastes can change over time, and comically so. I used to tease my dad for listening to his classical music every weekend. What happened? Years later I heard Bach's Brandenburg Concertos and I embraced it onto other composers / singers. Was I ever into Heavy Metal? My bro was, I was into EW&F, even George Benson. Later? I heard Nirvana, loved them, then it took me into Heavy Metal / Industrial / Goth, etc. My bro went to the Blues. Shoot, I used to mock the organ player at the mall who played all those "corny" tunes for the adults. Man, when I was in a record store one time I heard the coolest vibe of music, asked the front desk who it was, and bought my first Juan Esquivel CD. Lounge music now for life! LoL. Be free, don't fight it, just go with the flow of life! ( Like you, I haven't given up on my past bands, but expanded into new territories. Used to hate Country and Reggae, but stepped into those genres as well. )

This is one song that just tears the heart out of every young man who's had his heart broken by the woman who they truly believed was a soulmate. We feel the emotion in his voice and it hurts.

I love this video. The dude's singing about love and I've always assumed it was strictly romantic love to which he was referring. But watching this video with the African American choir, i start getting vibes about all kinds of love, e.g., love between people in general, regardless of race. The band start shaking hands and singing along with the choir and it really goes to a different level. I'm a metalhead but i also like the softer rock. Great channel and love you guys. Peace!

I was born in '78 so I literally "grew up" my early years thru the 80's - with me being more aware of what the heck was going on around me more towards the latter half of the 80's. The sounds of this song (among many, many others) is one of the ones that always transports me back in time to this period of my life when everything still seemed magical, mystical and the like to me. This is an 80's song - so unmistakable - it is written into its DNA.

Lou Gramm, the singer, loved doing the rock stuff, and wasn't really into the ballads so much; Mick Jones, the guitarist and songwriter, usually convinced him to do them, and this and Waiting for a Girl like You were HUGE hits as a result! Kudos to Lou for going against his instincts somewhat!
