"Faith" is the song you've got to hear, I think it would appeal to both of you. As for being a ladies' man, well... when you're that attractive, they're going to market you to young girls and play up the manly good looks. Fortunately later in life (or perhaps unfortunately, given the circumstances leading up to it) he was able to come out and publicly stand up for a cause he believed in. Was also a generous philanthropist throughout his career, most of it done privately without the need to broadcast it to the world.

George started out as part of a duo called "Wham!" that were very fun and pop-y. Later they split and he went solo. Personally, I think he was one of the most talented singers/artists/songwriters, and never really got the recognition that he deserved, and he was gone too soon. His first solo album, "Faith," was a huge hit. He apparently found that the crazy fame and success didn't make him happy, and on his next album, "Listen Without Prejudice Vol 1," he wanted to be taken more seriously and not just as a pretty boy in tight jeans and a leather jacket that all the young girls screamed for. There are so many great songs to choose from. From the first album, I'd suggest "I Want Your Sex" (because it caused a bit of trouble with some conservative radio stations) and the title song "Faith." From the second album, I'd say "Freedom 90" (which talks about his realizations about fame and the music industry) and "Praying For Time." I also love "A Different Corner" which is actually a Wham! track. RIP George. You are missed.

"Careless Whisper" was technically a Wham! song, not a solo song. His first HUGE solo hit, from his first solo album from 1987, is "Faith". The video connected especially with young women, since George does a lot of Elvis Presley-like butt-shaking in the video. The "ladies' man" comments were interesting, because while the perfect hair, facial stubble, and striking Greek features drove the ladies wild, George Michael kept the fact that he was gay a secret for a very long time. He was outed by the British tabloid press in a very vicious way in the early 90s, following an arrest for "lewd behavior" in a public restroom. Nevertheless, he remains a G.O.A.T., taking a place with M.J., Prince, and Madonna as 80s pop royalty. RIP.

It's an entirely original sax riff - though probably one of the only ones that's as recognisable and iconic as the one from "Baker Street". Both have been played everywhere for decades though (and were only released about 6 years apart) so maybe it's understandable you got them confused! :D George is widely regarded as one of the greatest solo artists of the late 20th century. He was good friends with Elton John and Freddie Mercury, and Prince thought very highly of him. Many of his early hits as part of the duo Wham! are also excellent

George Michael started out in a pop duo called Wham! before striking out on his own. This was his first single as a solo artist, and it hit #1 in 1984. He hit #1 in subsequent years with "I Know You Were Waiting For Me" (with Aretha Franklin), "Faith", "Father Figure", "One More Try", "Monkey", "Praying For Time", and "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me" (with Elton John). I hope at some point you'll do "Freedom '90", which is one of my all-time favorite songs and has a piano track that will embed itself in your brain forever. As for being a "ladies' man"... he maintained that image for a long time before coming out as homosexual in 1998. He passed away in 2016 at the age of 53. A tremendous loss for music and the world.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - one of the greatest vocalists and lyricists of our era. The sax riff isn't a sample though, it's an original piece of music written for this song. I had forgotten how good this song was, and how many memories are attached to it, and others of that time period. By my personal calculations, my son was conceived after having gone to the club and dancing with his father to this song. It was a couple years old, but still a frequent dance request later in the evening. The song came out in 1984, and that evening was in 1986. It was the last time I danced with Richard, in fact. He left for Germany soon after, as he had joined the Army. He didn't even meet our son till he was almost 2, so we never had the chance to get together as a family. It worked out okay in the long run, and I'm good friends with my son's dad to this day- that was never an issue, thank goodness. So, in spite of the sad subject of the song, I have pretty fond memories associated with it, as well as that period of my life in general. I was 19-20 years old, quite pretty (looking back, cause at the time I thought I was anything but), the music was great. dance/pop, blues, classical, and hair bands could be called the appetizer, main course, cheese, and dessert courses on my plate, and I relished it all. Thanks for the blast from the past! (My son will be 35 in February). Cheers and love from the Old Broad, as always

in 1984 this single was massive.....probably one of the biggest singles of the 80's. he came from the band WHAM who were also massive between 83-86. this single was sooooo different to anything else on the charts at the time and so different from anything he did with WHAM it was so mature musically and lyrically. he defiantly was a lady's man back then but he also was understandably hiding the fact that he was gay. in 1986 WHAM broke up and in 1988 he became one of the biggest solo acts on the planet and became one of the greatest singer songwriters of our generation

Incredible artist but more incredible human being. Look up his philanthropy. Made a huge amount of money but never stopped giving to others. Went to work at soup kitchens anonymously, tipped a waitress thousands to pay off her debts, when a couple went onto a tv game show to try and win money for IVF but lost, he phoned in and gave them the money anonymously. All this came out after his death.
