She was only 19 years old when she sang/recorded this song. And she's on the drums, too. She was the drummer for their entire "OFFERING" album. She also played bass guitar on two of the songs on that, their first album. "OFFERING" was later repackaged after their 2nd album "CLOSE TO YOU" and is now titled "TICKET TO RIDE" with a much better cover. Karen was precious, very caring, loving, and giving of herself to her friends and fans as well. She and Richard both were and are good people. I'm blessed to have been with Richard and his wife Mary five different times in my life now. They are so kind, giving, and loving towards their fans. And, I can honestly say, he misses his beloved little sister to this day. If he talks too long about her, he'll tear up even now. I can't imagine losing her so young. It's weird because she's known for her/their music and her voice. But she's also known for how she died, which really rocked the world. And with her passing, it brought Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimic Anorexia and eating disorders in general more to the forefront. I have no doubts that her struggle and ultimate, untimely death saved others' lives. She was a strong soul to give and do all that she did in such a short amount of time. Rest In Peace & Glory beautiful Angel, Karen Anne Carpenter. You are still beloved and adored by billions the world over.🙏❤

For this version, she did. a new recut lead vocal in 1973....also the extra instruments were added for the RPO album Richard did to great success....The Carpenters were Beatle babies and so thrilled to meet Paul McCartney.....in the mid 1970s she bumped into John Lennon who told her, "I want to tell you love, you've got a fabulous voice!" And walked off leaving her speechless....

Her crystalline alto voice is clear and powerful, with an incredible range that she delivers effortlessly-no straining or theatrics needed. She was only 19 when she recorded this. Ticket to Ride, a cover of the famous Beatles song slowed down into a ballad....Released as the duo's first single - without the album track's introductory twelve measures - "Ticket to Ride" became the Carpenters' first charting single, peaking at number 54 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May 1970, the next song Close to You went straight to #1. But at the release of Ticket to Ride , No one had a clue they would become the biggest stars of the 1970's selling over 100 million records. Make no mistake, Richard her brother arranged this entire thing, played the piano, and both he and Karen sang the back up vocals.

Actually, the lead vocal for this version was re-recorded for the compilation album, The Singles 1969-1973, (recorded in 1973) with some additional instruments like the electric guitar. The original 1969 version has a different lead vocal.

They used to do this song in their live concerts. Karen was behind her drums and Richard got up to talk to the audience about the layered harmonies and how they put them together. Separately, the harmonies sounded "odd" but boy when they were put together, it was magical. I love both the Beatles version and this one. I read somewhere that John Lennon stated that Carpenters' Ticket To Ride was the best "cover" of them all and something to the effect of "this is the way it should have been recorded." He also told Karen when passing her outside an LA restaurant that she "had a lovely voice, love" and Paul Mc Cartney described Karen as "the best female voice in the world: melodic, tuneful and distinctive". That's all high praise from legends they admired.
@orlandomunoz20083 ай бұрын
I can't think of any other artist whose voice is as clear and as pure as Karen's. It's been over 40 years since her passing, and no one has even gotten close to Karen's angelic voice, and I doubt anyone ever will. I might add that the Carpenters' original version of "Ticket To Ride," was recorded in 1969, which was their first "single" release; however, the version we just heard here was recorded in 1973, when Karen & Richard released an album that included all of their single releases, appropriately titled, The Singles 1969 - 1973. Richard was, indeed, a musical genius. Karen's superb voice, and Richard's impeccable arrangements, and the layered harmonies, created the Carpenters unique sound that could never be duplicated.

The Carpenter siblings grew up huge Beatles fans, and recorded a few of their songs over the years, though "Ticket to Ride" made the biggest impact. It was the Carpenters' first hit...not one of their bigger ones, but the one that got them noticed by the recording companies and listening public. It opened the door for them and other hits would soon follow. It was a canny decision: in the late 1960s, relatively unknown group choosing to cover a popular Beatles song was a great way to capture some buzz.

The impact of this version is the arrangement. The Beatles, being guys, sang it as if they were angry at the girl for leaving. Karen sings it as a woman who's been dumped, and there are points where the arrangement drops into minor chords, and Karen's stunning low vibrato delivers the sadness. Richard deserves a lot of the credit for suiting the song to the singer.

Karen Carpenter was thrilled when John Lennon came up to her and told her how much he admired her, "the Carpenters' manager said, 'As I and Karen left a restaurant in California, John Lennon was walking in and said to Karen, 'I just wanted to say that I love your voice, Love!' Karen asked me later, 'Did he really mean that?' I answered, 'Of course he did, he's John Lennon!'"

The voice is absolutely angelic. But the Carpenters were a duo and the arrangement on this is spectacular... Well done to Both...

Richard and Karen totally took an awesome Beatles song and made it their own. They did the same with Help. The Beatles, I hope, we would be so proud of what Carpenters did to transform both with their harmonies and emotion....I think I read somewhere that John thought Karen was one of the best female singers that he had heard....

This was actually the first version I heard of this song back in the 70s. My parents had a Carpenters Greatest Hits tape that we listened to on the way to church. Karen's voice was angelic. It was quite a few years before I heard the Beatles version. My first Beatles was my older sister's 45 of Let It Be. Still love both groups to this day.

Karen was only a teenager when this one was done. She sang and played the drums on this. I've heard that the Beatles actually preferred this version to their own. Isn't it gorgeous? And it makes more sense to sing this as a slow song since it's so sad. Richard is a musical genius!
