An achingly beautiful song. The lyric about being up in the mountains in Denver (we'll throw "I love you" echoes down the canyons, and then lie awake at night until they come back around) is still one of the most romantic things I've ever heard.

The story basically is, he's a musician from Tennessee traveling around the country playing gigs and trying to make it big. (I still need to lean to, someone that I can sing to") He lives in these different places he's performing and he wants her to come be with him. Also, did you guys catch the double meaning in that line when he was in LA? "There's some _stars_ that fell from the sky and are living upon the _hill"_ ..He's in LA, near Hollywood Hills where all the movie stars live! I thought that was a very clever line! Dave Loggins is such a great talented singer/songwriter. So talented!

That last part about the hill is a very good point and brings some insight into the song. That makes me believe that he has been traveling around for years at this point and wherever he has been he has been trying to get the one he loves to join him. At this point in his life, he is in LA its probably been quite a few years since his first letter and he still wants her with him.

Dave Loggins, born and raised in Tennessee, was inspired to write "Please Come to Boston" by a 1972 tour with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band which included stops in Boston, Denver and Los Angeles,[5] cities which were new to Loggins. He stated: The story is almost true, except there wasn't anyone waiting {here} so I made her up. In effect, making the longing for someone stronger. It was a recap to my first trip to each of those cities and out of innocence. That was how I saw each one. The fact of having no one to come home to made the chorus easy to write. Some 40 years later, I still vividly remember that night, and it was as if someone else was writing the song.[6]

When I sit down and actually listen to the entirety and nuance of this song from my childhood, I always cry. It's the most beautiful sweet but heartbreaking story set to such heart-touching music. He never goes back to her despite she always being the one he wants to join him on whatever Don Quixote trip he's on. And she never stops loving him enough to say come home. The beautifully ethereal female voice that soars over his vocals when he's singing her words make you almost SEE her trying to reason with him. I love it, I just think this song is a perfect gem.

Dave was picked up hitchhiking near here by a girl I knew from high school. She was the preeminent hippie chick back then, long glowing hair, short short skirts when not in bell bottoms and tie-dyed. She invited him to the family lodge/lakeside cabin resort where he stayed a very long time. When he left he wrote a song called Girl From Knoxville, which is really about Rockwood, TN, he mentions in the 1st lines. Some believe she was also the muse for Please Come to Boston.

He never liked performing live and confessed that he was not cut out to be a rock star. He preferred songwriting and ended up being inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. He wrote several hit songs for Alabama and numerous hits for Kenny Rogers, Wynonna, Tanya Tucker, Don Williams, 3 Dog Night, Reba and other country and pop artists. He also wrote "Augusta, " which CBS has used as it's theme during coverage of the Masters golf tournament since the early 1980's.

What a gorgeous and moving song, how it’s written and sung. It’s def this story about a musician traveling the world and keeping him from his beloved. But she wants a home, not a house. Not fame, not fortune. She just wants him to build a life with her where they both can have a home. Cuz she knows his career will tear them apart. And you can tell by how he sings it that he knows she’s right but he wants her and his career. But she (and basically he) knows he has to choose one or the other. It’s his biggest hit song and you can see why.

I always felt that he was touring, making it as a musician. And she was still his #1 fan, Just c'mon home. Great song!
