Your review format is the best. You measure things that most YTers skip. And nice shirt!

Noice! Thank you for the comparison to the Alloy 9 as I was thinking it’s basically the same motherboard based on the port selection. Between the two, Minisforum specializes in these miniPCs where Reatan seems like a one hit wonder at this point. Always appreciate your videos Rob.

I have a UM450 from 1 1/2 years back. This little machine cost me $300 new with 16 GB, 512 GB ssd. This machine does everything except play games, its great.

Never ceases to amaze me that these stupid rubber feet need to be removed to access the securing screws... I mean how hard is it for them to locate the rubber feet elsewhere OR use ones that are open in the middle, allowing access to the screw without needing removal? I seriously question how ignorant these mini PC makers are to not have understood this from endless reviews and feedback.
@tendosingh56824 күн бұрын
Exactly, either the screw holes or rubber could be placed in different spots.

They don't care...

You'd think they'd fix the whole rubber feet issue just to shut Rob up about it.

That design choice predates consumer PC's. It's at least a century old. It has two purposes... 1. To have the product look less make shift. 2. To prevent people from tampering with the machines internals. Nowadays, it's just for reason # 1
@petemonster13 күн бұрын
@@WiseAcres-i4d I understand the historical basis/reasons for rubber feet. When you're purpose is to come up with tiny PC packages, innovative thinking is required for ALL aspects. So no, I'm not going to cut them any slack here because 'that's the way it's always been done', when there are easy/obvious workarounds, especially when they know access is required AND is rightfully pointed out by Rob every time this neglectful/lazy design approach is applied. They are the ones pushing the miniPC form factor AND charging handsomely over something you can get more cheaply in a slightly larger package.

Came for the minipc review, stayed for the humor 😀Well done Rob!

kind of odd the wireless coverage is still broken. Im pretty sure they instructed a newer revision more than a year ago that was supposed to address coverage specifically.

The WiFi issue is a real problem. Issue has been tackled on Reddit with similar complaints, overall bad design. I ended up drilling holes on both sides to install antennas.

I bought one when they were first released. really could not be happier. Bought barebones to avoid the tax threshold in NZ. Bought 32GB and 2x2TB 980PRO. Windows 11 Pro via direct download from MS and bought a key online. It runs 4K video editing easily, near silent and seems stable.

This one should be more than enough to play games and edit video.

I've owned one of these for about 10 months now, it works well but I do prefer the port placement on the 890 Pro more (having USB type A on the front).

Hot and noisey! Why bother when beelink with this specs costs the same and is silent compared to this.
@ColinPatrickWeiss4 күн бұрын
My um890 rips and edits 4 k video with ease and is literally silent. Maybe the fans aren’t good on this older model but the um890 is lovely.

I bought one barebones three weeks ago, it has amazing performance, beats my Ryzen 7600 desktop in Cinebench R23. Has USB 4 too. Edit. Reading the comments about WiFi, I unplugged my ethernet cable and did some speed tests, exactly the same speed as wired. Sometimes I get the impression that people write stuff because they think it sounds good.
@Robtech2 күн бұрын
No, they write it because they have problems with their WiFi. Varies between units and a common problem across many mini PCs reviewed this year.

@Robtech Hmm, I have experienced too many things like this, am I just always lucky in this one aspect of life or maybe I have realistic expectations? I thought the problem was presumed to be a Faraday cage effect of the case, am I circumventing the laws of physics? Is time travel next?

Great reviews! Would love to see a comparison of the MINISFORUM UM870 vs Beelink Mini PC SER8 as they both have similar specs.

Seems like there are some easy design changes and testing that would make many mini PCs appreciably better. Glued on feet - do they really want it to be upgradable? Slightly better parts such as RAM and drives whose speeds for the design spec. Proper wireless ranges. Seems obvious to me....

Rob. I'll be frank. I didn't ask. But then again I won't be ripe to replace my 3 Minis beginning 2026ish or later. So keep up the good work. 😉

If you want it, don't let Manjaro scare you. You can easily install Win11 or any other linux over it with a USB.

There is not much between Minisforum and Beelink, but they generally are more expensive. Shame, because I'd like to buy one but I'm a miser. 😆

breath of the wild in 4k looked pretty playable to me. granted, it wasn't as smooth as butter but neither were the 8 and 16 bit generation of games that would slow down to a crawl when there were too many sprites on screen...that's my benchmark for "playable"...if it runs better than those classic games then it's a playable game...again, for me.

For me, most of the fan noise doesn't bother me because the louder the noise means that the fan is working excellently in cooling the unit effectively. Because lower noise means it failed to cool the unit from the inside especially when doing heavy gaming all the time. Loud fan noise is to be expected.
@avidwriter28824 күн бұрын
That's not what that means. I've had a very loud fan that still didn't cool right and quiet fans that cooled great.
