Nice break down and comparison between these two recent mini PCs from each team.

Do they thermal throttle all the time? Are they a better desktop replacement than a laptop? Are the Halo APUs next year really about as fast as a mobile 4070 in gaming? Can I add a 3.5" SATA HDD? How expensive are they compared to a desktop and laptop of similar speed/capacity?

thank you, nice comparisson. Can you do one with Beelink SER9 vs mac mini m4?
@hadeseye22974 сағат бұрын
Better thing would be to OpenCore it to hackintosh and then test them side by side.

Thx dude, nice incredibile vid! Can you argomentate this hardware on Linux? Fedora? And whitch Is the laudest hardware?

Do you need that warp core in the background to power an Intel Core i9?

Finally! At least someone is using the latest Cynebench! And not the version from 2023. BTW, how did You managed to use only 70W from the 115W power CPU (turbo mode) from the outlet during the test? Looks very Intel'ish. Power limit from the manufacturer? Other videos on YT shows the same 185H CPU with an Asus NUC 14 Pro+ draw about 140W and still loses to the AMD Ryzen AI 370. And how the hell 370HX CPU package draws 90W??? It's impossible! It's a 55W CPU!!!

All the testing was done at out of the box settings from the manufacturer. Geekom went with a good balance of power and performance, while Beelink seems to have just went with maxed power. Both systems are power limited by the included 120W power supply which is why the the Intel has limited turbo boosting.

It seems SER9 is better, but it consumes a lot more power, too much for a a mini-pc in my opinion. I might go with the Geekom one. Also, the Geekom has a big advantage over the Beelink. Living in the EU, I don't have to pay import duties buying it in the official store. But I have to if I order the Beelink.

Why am I buying so many mini pcs >.< I have a ser8 96GB/8TB now for file storage and vms and as an ollama node (also got hardware encoding working with jellyfin/vaapi), I want to get a m4 mini for video editing and the SER9 would be super amazing sat under my tv for light gaming with that 890M. Maybe I could set them all up in slurm and make a mini supercomputer with like 30 cores and 144GB of memory between them? XD

Seems it’s a no brainer to not go with the Beelink - as long you not need to add more ram.

what was your game settings?

Ooops, guess I forgot to include that in the charts. All games were tested at 1080P Low. CS2 and Baldur's Gate used FSR Performance.

I'd look at a mini-pc with oculink if I were considering using it for gaming. Sure it kind of defeats the purpose of ultra sff if you have an eGPU setup with a full size 7700 XT and SFX power supply on top of a dock, but I'd take that modularity/possibility on top of the same internal iGPU setup than without. USB4 or whatever is too much of a bottleneck to really matter compared to oculink.

For me the selling point is the Oculink port, not interested if it doesn't have it🤷🏽♂️

If AMD draws more power but gets the work done faster, then its possible its actually more efficient. You need to calculate how much Energy each system used to complete a certain task, not how much power it draws when CPU is fully loaded!

Attention: SER9 users, clock of APU seems to be limited to 4.2 GHz. 😮
@ElevatedSystems5 күн бұрын
Not true, you can see at 10:00 the clock speeds boost to 5.1 GHz. You need to check your power profile settings.

The synthetic benchmarks I've seen says the M4 Mini will crush both of these. Looking forward to seeing real world performance comparisons.

Yeah, shame that everything is designed to prevent upgrades and repairs though, soldered ram and proprietary storage interfaces are a joke in 2024 - particularly with the base mini having just 256GB storage. I've got more than that in lossless music alone.

This might be the last generation we'll see SODIMM RAM on x86 mobile APU's. Ryzen has already transitioned to LPDDR, and Lunar Lake went with on package memory, although say say that was a one off.

In a single core tests and wattage efficiency (this one is not so important because these devices are powered from the outlet and not from battery). Multi threading is significantly on the AMD side. At least not on the pro version. And I'm not talking about horrible SSD read/write speeds on a base M4 (again, I'm talking only about base level M4, from the same price range)

@@isotoxin exactly. Also both came out mainly as an M3 Pro competitor and they are well ahead in the multiple core benchmarks. Strix Hallo coming out in Q2 will do the same compared to M4 Pro
