Excellent job Rob. I loved this moment -> 19:51 one gets uncomfortable with the hyenas getting closer. And then the other Lion Far Away, how he stands between the kill and the pack of hyenas to protect the ground is amazing pure strategy

Obviously, both coalitions must have been engaged in bringing the buffalo down, and the older lions must have made a rational judgment that sharing with the younger coalition be far better than fighting with them to risk unnecessary injuries. If both coalitions consisted of many lions, and that only one prey is far less than what they need, a fight would occur. Moreover, the personality of each of these 4 lions also plays an important role in making sharing happen.

Rob , Does TB have an impact in your neck of the woods ? Is there any ways of dealing with it or eradicating it ? I believe it derives from domestic cattle initially to buffalo who probably graze near or drink in the same areas and obviously the scavengers that get it too ? As yet TB has had little impact in the Mara/Serengeti ecosystem, perhaps because cows have been here with the Maasai for enough time that the wildlife has built an immunity? In kruger livestock had been kept away from the wildlife for so long that TB ran rampant through the populations when it did arrive but now we are seeing a lot more resistance to the disease

Good to see them eating so peacefully because male lions at a kill are often vicious and violent with each other. If somehow these for males are split up into two rival coalitions of two then they should team up and they would be almost unbeatable. Thanks for the video.

Hey Rob great vlogs enjoy always watching them Why not game reserve feeding these lions with killed animal so they get healthy and put weight on? Again we love your Vlogs Sir!!
@robtheranger

The reason the older males are so thin is that their teeth are worn out and they cannot eat properly, feeding them wouldn't help. Feeding the younger males would cause them to become lazy and even less efficient at getting their own food,basically causing a never ending cycle of humans feeding them, then they would no longer be wild animals and may as well be in captivity.

Video starts with scene of two lions laying in tall wind blown grass deciding to take a nap. Then fast cut to a group of lions well into the process of eating a dead buffalo. Gotta say that was riveting! 🤣

They do not have molars for chewing, only carnassials for slicing. So slice and swallow is how it goes

Did the hyenas get any meat? How does it end?
@robtheranger
@robtheranger 2 жыл бұрын
just the scrap you see them take in the video. What makes the hyenas so succesful is their ability to make a meal from what others leave behind, so when the lions were done and moved off the hyenas would have been able to get the bones open for the nutritious marrow

Two of these lions are old enough to be the fathers of the other two and you can see all are basically similar size. Therefore you don't get any more fully grown lions than this.

Very interesting. How do you know they are rivals? I didn’t even hear one growl amongst them, which is extraordinary if they are truly rival nomadic lions. Even family members growl at each other when eating, yet these rivals didn’t, wow. Did they team up after or go their separate ways?

Well they seem to be getting along great. Maybe they combine forces and become a 4 lion, nomadic coalition. These beautiful, majestic lions would be a formidable pho against many a dominant lion/s defending their pride/s. ❤️🙏🏼🦁
