Robyn SX-102B CB Radio

Ever seen a Robyn from the 1970’s where two of the switches would convert the radio to transit on a high channel?

@@Normie-c7s I do not know the process. But on Robyn and Royce CBs, it was possible back in those days. We called them high channels that were very quiet. You could communicate on those channels for a long distance.

I bought a CB SSB Bas Station on EBay where the write up said it was in original "unmolested" condition, but when I received it the clarifier was a three position switch instead of a variable pot. The screws around the radio's cover looked like someone had used the wrong sized screw driver on them and when I looked inside there was a cluster of crystals on the switch where the RF Gain control used to be and the actual RF Gain pot was mounted on a sheet metal part in the middle of the radio. It's in a shop getting put back to it's original stock set up. I've got a few good things on EBay over the years but unfortunately, a lot of people lie and sell crap on there.

Been waiting some years for a reply or new vid. Sad to say I think he is gone. First talked with him on cbrt when I was first getting into radios. Miss the vids for sure. Hope things didn't go too bad for him. Did mention some heath issue.

Sometimes boards can be broken from vibration in vehicles. Especially from years of use in big trucks. I remember the early/first Connex 3300 radios having the problem where the boards would break around the board supports screws. Long ago it was a common problem for them when run in big trucks. This Robyn was was broken by someone with the covers off though. The steel board support leg was bent way down. I had to bend it up to get that small piece of board to line up with the rest. 73's Paul

It does have a snazzy S meter. Some of the other early Robyn radios have that meter as well. I like how it's in a bumped out mounting on these chassis though.

Must be the trick mirror effect of that smooth chrome channel selector. At least my uncombed hair didn't really show. I need to either get myself a haircut or a comb like the Challenger . :)

Cool Rig, Even though its AM only. I like the BFO and Meter. Back in the Day, we only had channels 16 and 17 for SSB. Channel 16 was the call ch and 17 was rag chew. To bad there is no SSB on 16-17 anymore. Or you could play around with the BFO. Great Video as usual......BB23

After reading your details I believe I have seen them before. I think it has a LED channel readout like the little Robyn DG-30. The DG-30 was a 23 channel AM but with LED channel readout. Honestly I had forgot that Robyn had some LED readout 23 channel rigs. A DG-30 was among the first radios I owned as a teenager back in the 90's.

Yes I got the SX-101---- no bfo- volume and squelch only. no intercom jack on back either. Otherwise looks the same. Nice looking radio.

Congrats on finding one. Your antenna question is a very broad question. You need an antenna capable of being resonant on CB radio and tuned properly so that it's truly resonant on CB. I suggest doing some online searches and research about CB antennas. If you currently don't have an antenna or a dummy load to test it with then suggest taking it to someone that can test the radio for you. Wouldn't be good to spend the $ for a setup and find that your radio has problems. 73's Paul

i actually found a robyn sx-101 23 am channel cb at a thrift store the other day. not sure if it works yet havent tried it out yet and im a rookie at this but could you tell me what ant. it would use?

All I know is they are early Robyn branded mobile radios. Quite a few versions of them such as TR-123, TR-123B, TR-123C, TR-123D. I have no idea why they bring so much money these days. In years gone by I've owned some of them and don't remember anything being remarkable about them. Maybe they were short lived and therefore low production numbers. Just a wild guess. Could always look at a Sams for one and see if the design was special in some way. Like a crystal filter, fixed IF's........
