Nice to see the castle without scaffolding; I lived in Rochester and loved visiting the castle and cathedral. One night, a boyfriend and I scaled a shorter stone wall to get into the castle grounds. thanks for the video, I'll likely never go back and it's a pleasure to see it again. Oh and I think Charles Dickens wanted to be buried in the moat but they wanted to give him a grander "resting place" and that's why he haunts the place.

Thank you, Rochester Castle certainly has a very long and intriguing history, if only those walls could talk!

We tried to visit Rochester Castle last year on out holidays but had to give up. Apparantly there was a graduation ceremony in the catherdal next door and the whole of the city was overrun with students and family and the limited parking was completely full. Tried for an hout to find a space in the car parks and on the road but had to concede defeat. Instead, we found a little place called Upnor Castle across the river, plently of free parking and a really nice pub next door which did an amazing curry.

Seeing all the recesses used for supporting joists for flooring certainly invites the notion that Rochester Castle would be amazing if restored.

Fantastic video, always since a child been a very local Castle for me. Would love to see a roof reinstated to look after the interior for future generations, been muted many times and can only hope.

Thank you. We loved Rochester Castle, I certainly hope they can preserve this ancient site for future generations, there is so much history here it would be tragic if it was lost.

Look up videos about "building cement houses in the Caribbean".... They figured out a way to make cement floors, and even roofs. Could be handy in restoring.

American and I loved the movie “ Ironclad” I never understood why it was always a conflict over human rights. To this very day the citizens can be arrested for speech that the government does not approve of in public.

Great vid! But Rochester is not a City… The once City of Medway lost its city status many years ago! 😢
