i have a 78 chevy pick-up w/ 454 and only 71k miles, it ran strong for 8 yrs. before i moved to the desert. now after 2 yrs it is running like crap and have no choice but to rebuild the carb. i was leary of doing this being i've never touched a carb other than spraying the outside of it. your video gives me hope. it doesn't look at all like i had feared! i will take some before and after video. and post it.

When I put that choke plate thing back onto the keyed shaft, I just dangled it down in there, pushed against it with the shaft to hold it lightly in place and then slowly rotated the other end until I could push it through. Took about 10 seconds with the carb still on the engine. I was messing around with the choke, and stupidly pulled the whole thing out... and then had to take the top off the carb to put the plate back in. Your vids were really helpful with putting it back together, THANKS!!

I looped short length of fishing line around the choke lever plate, held it tight under one finger on top of the carb and looking through the hole at the side, slowly move the choke plate lever into alignment. After watching part 3 twice and using this technique it was assembled in "under a minute". Thanks. Great tutorial series.

Holy cow. When taking apart my carb a small metal piece fell out. After many part diagrams I discovered it was a Intermediate Choke Lever but still had no idea how to install it, or where it went... until today. Thank you!

Unless I missed it, you may have to re-shoot part 3. I don't remember you pulling out the float assembly - replacing or cleaning the float valve - and setting the float height. (I think it used to be 7/32" at least on old auto-quads) and then reassembling.

What I do to align that small key lever to the choke assembly is grab a price of electrical tape and tape the lever loosely to the rod so it stays at a right angle I drop it in and line it up with the hole then insert the keyed shaft once it's aligned grab some small needle nose pliers and pull the tape out goes really quick

I need to replace that little choke plate tab that you turned the carb on its side to install. Do you know where I can get one?

Does anyone have any advice about adjusting APT? I forgot to count the turns when I removed mine.

I'm guessing this is a 1980 Quadrajet (California Version) out of a manual transmission Pontiac?
