The reason why Filipinos really sing well is because they are motivated and encouraged to go caroling while still kids, so their singing voices start to develop. Even those who can't sing well took this chance to develop singing, later everything will improve and they could become singers someday.

Parol or Farol from Spanish During the Spanish colonial era in the Philippines, the parol custom first emerged. It is a local adaptation of the Hispanic custom of carrying small light sources (like torches, candles, or braziers) during the nine-day Christmas Novena procession leading up to the midnight mass (known as Simbang Gabi oe Mesa De Galyo in the Philippines).

I'm a Filipino I remember when I was an elementary in my school here in the Philippines each 6th grader every year for our Work Ed subject is required to make 1 Parol or Christmas lantern to be displayed in our school every November. For 5th graders they are each required to make a Christmas wreath. I don't if other schools here in the Philippines do the same but in my school it is a tradition.

RC, i'm here in the province and almost Christmas day. I have lots of relatives with all the grandkids to visit me in time of giving their gifts. What i prepared for them as my gift, is bamboos sigments cut into piggy banks. I put change coins in those bamboo sigments and tell them to save as much money untill the following year, to be opened on Christmas day, to buy whatever they were able to saved that year. This will teach them to save money at a younger age. Thanks for sharing this holiday episode, how Filipinos celebrate Christmas. God bless. Merry Christmas to you and have a prosperous New Year. God bless from the Philippines.

To those not in the know ----- the Philippines has THE longest Christmas celebration in the world ---- indeed once the months end in 'B E R' ---- the celebrations start ----- with Christmas songs over the radio---- spectacular decorations in shops big and small ---- there are families who display the Nativity scene referred to as 'belen' in their living rooms ---- and the colourful Christmas parols or lanterns are hung and you see these beautiful parols hanging outside windows or over holiday displays in stores ---- no snow---- it's a tropical country ---- but, yes, we believe that Santa will come in his sleigh bearing gifts for all the good girls & boys.

Parol signifies the Star of Bethlehem as this type of lantern usually used as a guide or light of our ancestors on their way going to church to attend Misa de Gallo. Just like how the Three Wise Men used the star as a guide to finally find the Infant Jesus in Bethlehem.

Ya the Philippines has the longest Christmas in the world, the traditions in the Philippines were influenced by other Asians, Chinese, Malay and conquerors (Spanish). After Christmas and New year is Chinese new year, Filipinos will buy round fruits, because round fruits symbolize goodluck, this tradition comes from the Chinese, Filipinos also believe in Feng Shui.
