Rock Band 4 Pro Cymbals Mini Review

So I'm a huge fan of the Rock Band series and I picked up Rock Band 4 a few weeks ago. I love this game so much, but after a few issues with the hardware, and replacements from the awesome Mad Catz; I have snagged the Cymbal set to add to the drumming experience.

​​@@TheMatCave sorry dude but the freestyle guitar solos is are a waste of development time and drum fills in my eyes not worth it they could have added double bass tracks drums that would have been way better than them two things and you could have showed us how to put the symbols on incorrectly honestly they need double bass pedal tracks for the drums and option for explicit lyrics toggle for the adults that play this game. It just ruins the song when they are censored would benefit the game so much

You have me sold but I'm worried about the hit reg of the cymbals. My red and yellow drum pads do have some slight hit reg issues but once knowing where to hit it and how hard to hit it, it's fine. As far as the cymbals, which I'm on the edge of purchasing, people have been saying the hit reg is a big problem. Is it really that bad? Can I fix it by figuring out the "sweetspots" like with my drum pads?

still rocking my original rb1 drum kit thanks to cutting myself some mouse pad covers. quieter too. did however use double sided tape to hold them in place and just last week had to finally replace one of them wasn't pretty underneath so taping on top would be better if you want to keep the kit in good nick. (8-9 year old sticky tape doesn't like to let go cleanly)

Richicat catboy I have a rock band 2 drum set that has no cymbals, a green drum pad that was taped back into place after it practically flew off the thing, a red drum pad that just fell off and is hanging by a thread, and it turns stops functioning at all at random times in the song so I have to turn it off and back on which takes up to 5 seconds! I honestly just started playing guitar and I am a lot better with that even on expert

I suppose so, because they're the exact same and they both should fit. Xbox one drum kit shouldn't be bigger or smaller than PS4. I have Xbox one and RB4 on Xbox one and PS4 looks the exact same. Give it a go.

I've had 3 RB drum kits (1/2/4) and even owned an ION rocker and a fancy custom pedal, and I've never, ever experienced a broken pedal, though I hate how mushy and stiff the stock pedals are. Pad bubbling, however, happens to even the IONs :'(

I haven't experienced any trouble with the rb4 drum kit pad wise, however my old one screwed up with popping out and a not working. Your foam thing is a good idea. May be a dumb question, but would super glue work for sticking them rather than tape?

+EnerGForce Yeah my Rock Band 3 kit is now all warped and starting to pop out, I just found it weird that the RB4 kit did it just a few short weeks into playing. You could totally super glue them on, I was thinking about that but if I ever have to to send it back in I'm sure Mad Catz wouldn't like that little modification. Right now my kit looks horrible with tons of Superman duct tape all over it holding the pads down, but I can safely say they work properly and are in excellent condition underneath it all.

Hey thanks for the question, I'm actually not too sure. I'd assume that a light layer of glue would work just fine, but I have yet to try that since it would void the warranty. Mine are taped on, they are super ugly but work flawlessly!

Hey Mat, Nice video! When I owned the Rockband 3 Cymbal pack, the cymbals had a tendency to slip and fall down throughout the songs. Do you have a similar issue with the Rock Band 4 ones?

So I think they fixed that issue where they would slide down, the clamps are pretty strong because I've definitely clamped my hand... it sucks haha.

Awesome video man! I got the Mad Catz white edition rock band for xbox one. Im really thinking about getting the cymbal kit as well. For some reason Ive always liked the guitar hero guitar. so what sucks for me is I have to buy that wireless adapter and a guitar hero guitar for 360 cause guitar hero hasnt brought back the original guitar hero for the xbox one. sucks. only thing I can say about the game is the song set list is not the greatest compared to all the other rock bands.

+John Torres Thanks man! You got a white one?! I'm seriously jealous, I bet it looks clean! I entirely agree with you on that one, I enjoy Rock Band as a game more so over Guitar Hero; but they always have the best feeling guitars. I still use my Guitar Hero 2 explorer guitar when I play on PC, it's awesome! Yeah that's the biggest bummer of them all, that adapter ruins the fun. I wish they would have just bundled it in with the kit, that way they really could promote the use of older instruments; without having to spend extra money. The set list is by far the weakest of all the Rock Band's, I still prefer Rock Band 3's setlist myself. I know they have tons of stuff up for download, but I'm still bummed I lost hundreds of dollars of content by switching to Playstation this go around.

I'm going to order the pro drums off their website. I didn't have the money to get the band in the box edition so I just got the guitar Bundle, though I am regretting the decision of waiting. I am now looking forward to finally getting these drums. 200 is a bit pricey but they look like they're good quality and such.

+Brandon Beyer I didn't know they were selling the drums by themselves for $200, that seems a bit steep to be honest with you. Around the holidays it was going for $199 at most major retailers and Costco sells it for $225 for the entire band in a box. I just checked eBay and it looks like people are selling brand new sealed band in a box sets for $200. I think they are totally worth it if you love Rock Band and playing drums, but for the same price you might as well get the extra instruments! Good luck either way, it's such a fun game :)

When I had it on carpet I always had a piece of plywood to put under my drums to hold the pedal flat...partly because the movement of that carpet annoyed me...partly because one of my friends had a pedal snapped like yours...so I figured any stress of the pedal was great.

Don't know about everyone else but I bought the pro cymbals for my Xbox one and after less then a month after use one of them started to crack around the rim of the plastic. Now I'm not a "pro" drummer BUT I know I was not being over aggressive when hitting the cymbal. After the first crack big chunks of it came off and a few days.

+Dylan Gordon I ended up cutting craft foam/EVA foam into 7.5" diameter circles and taped them to the tops of the pads. It protects them and dampens the sound quite a bit, totally worth the $5 it cost to make these!

I would recommend investing in a Ion drum rocker, I have had mine for over 5-6 years now something around there and I've had no issue with them. No cheap bullshit plastic all metal and everything on the kit is high quality. It'll set you back about $300 to $400 but it's best thing I ever purchased

PGxDiBBLESx23 it delivered exactly on the expected delivery date. It might deliver early for you, but if you track the fedex shipment, it'll tell you everything. Mine arrived on the prediction date, which honestly was a bit disappointing, but at least it didn't come late. Yeah it was around 1-2 weeks for me too.
