An intelligent and entertaining movie, with a fast-moving plot, all spiked with a slice or two of humour. Film noir movies of that era are always so well-contrived, free of gimmicks and special effects which are not at all needed to get the required atmosphere.

"Truly a Crime collating, at times hysterical cinematic," Rock Hudson, those nestle crunch bars, Julie London, and Jayne Meadows together create the impression that an injustice noir can be compelling and laughable at the same time. Julie london was also innervating in that 1959 great, "The wonderful country," beside Robert Mitchum for others whom desire to see her different.

This was an unexpected treat. I remember as a kid listening to the radio program. There would be foot steps at the start, a coin dropped into a scale and a rich announcer's voice: the "Weight 232 pounds, who is he?...the Fat Man." All this with that distinctive tune. Nice to see a young Jayne Meadows and Rock Hudson. This film was made only a few years after the war when there was optimism and plans for the future. Anyway, the film is done very well for what it was given to do. Hard to believe it's been almost 70 years. A different America in every way.....
