I have been very disappointed with the lackluster quality of recent films and decided to watch some old films from the 30's onwards to compare. The originality of the writing, the quality of acting, the decency of the films is so refreshing (no profanity or nudity to be exact) I think I may not be able to go back to newer films🤣🤣Thanks for posting!

The power Anthony Quinn projected onscreen was something he possessed inherently. He came into a store I worked at, in the 1990's, when he was no longer young. Though he was friendly, warm and mild-mannered, he still filled the place with a sense of that raw power. It was just there. He was a presence.

Hi, that must be in Bristol R.I.. he lived next door to my father, and the first time I met him, he was sitting on the front porch chilling out. It took me two takes my jaw dropped to recognize him, and then I was speechless. Then I said thanks for the great movies. He nodded and then asked if he was my father. I said yes, then apologized for anything he had said out of line. He chuckled and then said he was a character, then smiled at me. I can only imagine the conversations they had together.

I agree with you about the quality of the movie. It's very, very good. But this wasn't one of Anthony Quinn's first films at all. He had been appearing in big-screen films since 1936, when he made an uncredited debut at the age of 21 in THE MILKY WAY and, later that year, his first film credit in PAROLE! He had also already won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for VIVA ZAPATA! (1952) and would win another in 1957 for LUST FOR LIFE. Believe it or not, he was 40 years old when he made this movie - one of four films he made in 1955.

Anthony Quinn was one of my very favorite actors too, but all this time I thought he had greek ancestry, I guess because he played such an excellent part in Zorba the Greek. As it turns out...Anthony Rudolph Oaxaca Quinn was born in Chihuahua, Mexico of poor Irish-Mexican parentage. His maternal grandmother was a Cherokee Indian. His father, Francisco Quinn, who spoke Spanish with an Irish brogue, fought with the Mexican revolutionary, Pancho Villa. As a boy, Quinn's family moved to California to pick grapes.

Telly Savalas was Greek, Anthony Quinn was Mexican. I was also confused when I was younger, I thought both where Greek, but it was the Movie Zorba the Greek, that has given us that idea!! Irene Papas , Jenifer Aniston, Maria Menounos, Zach Galifianakis, (Hugh Jackman (He has Greek blood, but not 100% Greek as most mentions here)) Kelly Clarkson, Melina Kanakaredes. Those are some of the most known Greek actors in Hollywood, there are many others. Most Greeks do not live in Greece. The new World Order, even though they run all the world since hundreds of years ago, so it's a lie they are "new" they don't want Greece, to be where it could be. They hate Greeks. It's not for only one reason, for example Greece is a Christian Orthodox Country, and they are Satanists. Thats only one reason, there are a lot of other reasons. That's why, most educated Greeks, where taken in the USA and the non educated or talented ones, are in Germany, Australia and allover around the world.

Such a pleasure to see Anthony Quinn acting again. He EXCELLED at playing flawed, conflicted individuals (like this film as well as "La Strada", "Zorba", probably many others) that still showed great humanity. So unlike the shoot 'em up, deeply violent films of today. I'm looking at you, Guy Ritchie and Quentin Tarantino.

A tour de force in acting! Very good story and Quinn hits his mark every time. Even the look on his face when he turns and leaves Bancroft on the front porch conveys in a split second what he is thinking. Granger, who I've never been a huge fan of, delivers a great and believable performance in my opinion. 24 year old Bancroft's acting is sharp (unlike someone like, for example, Ashley Judd's). A movie well worth watching!

There's no denying Tony Quinn was a bonafide legend. He was so good an actor that when he played the part of an Italian, people thought he was really Italian. When he played a Greek, people really believed he was Greek. Hell, some people thought he was an Eskimo after he did 'The Savage Innocents'! Yes, boys and girls. When Dylan sang Quinn the Eskimo, he was singing about Anthony. But this legend in his own time was actually Mexican. When I found that out, it blew me away. I saw him in person when he was acting in Zorba the Greek on broadway. The woman I was married to at the time was doing some art work for the people who adopted him when he was just a kid and she wanted to say hello, so we waited for him to exit the theatre after his performance. He looked to me like seven feet tall. He was very friendly and surprised when my ex told him that she knew his 'parents'. She got his handshake. I wish I had. I collect handshakes instead of autographs.

Thanks for the post !! nice movie !! Anthony Quinn is great and not an easy role for Farley Granger who do it well... Anne Bancroft plays a kind of same role in 1955 noir "New York Confidetial" being this time the daughter of a mafia big boss performed by Broderick Crawford

Anthony Quinn could play any part. He could be the good guy, he could be the bad guy, he could be the sort-a good sort-a bad guy. He could play a Greek, a Mexican, a Filipino, or any other nationality... and he was more realistic than someone that was actually from there. Well, actually his mother was Mexican. Probably one of the best underrated star from back in his time. Always... always at the top of his game no matter what the movie, no matter the other stars in it, no matter the script, no matter what or who he played. Always 101% believable and always put 101% of himself into it. Damn... we could love to have even one of these old actors now. But instead we have..................

Don't pass this one by. It is worth your time. Surprisingly good story. I expect good performance from Quinn and Bancroft, but I was not expecting such a good yarn. Bancroft is so young in this film that I never would have recognized her without seeing her name in the credits. And after, I kept looking for the adult woman in the young girl's face. Interestingly, she was more recognizable in her gestures and expression than in her features.

"You've not seen nothing like the mighty Quinn" Anthony Quinn did an absolutely fantastic job as the charismatic crime syndicate leader Phil Regal. Peter Graves, Anne Bancroft & Farley Granger were also great in "The Naked Street" a classic crime thriller. A+

Jean Claude...I never thought much about Anthony Quinn until I saw him in a few movies someone suggested, then this one I was not aware of until I wanted to really see Anne Bancroft in it (a fine actor and gorgeous besides) ...and I never knew Quinn played a part as he does here; it is very good, one of his best performances.

Despite having second star billing, Anthony Quinn dominates this movie both in the plot line and in screen time. A young(er) Anne Bancroft gives a decent performance as Quinn's sister. Farley Granger was basically at the end of his Hollywood movie career, having bought out his contract from Samuel Goldwyn to pursue acting on the stage in New York City. Granger was about 30 years old when this film was released. He basically reached the peak of his career in Alfred Hitchcock's 1951 masterpiece, "Strangers on a Train."

Yes Strangers on a Train was the last big one for Granger, but I looked up his list of acting credits and he was in a lot of TV up through the late 80's from Wagon Train and Kraft theatre to Get Smart , Ironside and Murder she Wrote plus 2 soap operas "As the World Turns" and 'Edge of Night. Also was in a lot of movies that were not well known.
