Rock in the way of new garage? Just blast it.

Last job for the 2022 year. Guy is building himself a new garage, he cleared a few trees, shifted a huge amount of dirt to level the land, placed a lot of rocks to build a nice retaining wall and all was going well until the huge excavator with a hydraulic breaker turned up to break and remove one nasty rock that was in the way... and was not able to break it, not even close. luckily the digger operator said "you need to call Demolition Dave".

Hi Dave! Would it be possible for you to do a video about the equipment you use when setting up a blast, the different colour of cords and their use and the connectors with delay? I understand that it might be tricky because it is explosives and watchlist stuff involved but I mainly would like to understand a bit ore about the different colour tubes you use in a setup. Yeah... I could disclose a bit more #77, only problem is that it is usually pretty hectic and the job is always behind schedule when I get the call and many customers, understandably don't want me messing around making video, they just want the job done ASAP. See what I can do.

Blessings on you and your family Dave. When I first saw you helping cover the shot with a Mark 1 shovel I thought that's a real comment on the size of that mini excavator. But as you went along, you reminded me that a teaspoon in the hands of a skilled operator can clear a lot of rock and dirt. Another thought I had is that when that ruidosite shatters, it's really interesting looking rock. Seems to be blue and gray. Did they try and cut that rock before they called you? Anyway as many of my peers here have said thanks for the bangs. I've had a blast. I look forward to seeing where else you blow off to. Excuse me, I'll show myself out. This is great, just discovered your channel today. I love this stuff! I'd love to see more technical info in your videos, like how do you estimate how much charge to use, is it rock hardness? Hole spacing? How much stemming are you adding, how are you estimating that? How are you designing blast sequences etc etc. All really interesting, particularly at this small scale - mining blasting here in WA is one thing, but running on (i assume) sheer reckoning and past experience is very cool. Would love to get into your head a bit more. Also I understand it would possibly not be a favorable business move to discuss pricing, but I'd love to understand rough ball park costs for these sorts of jobs - are we talking hundreds of dollars, thousands, tens of thousands? What sort of factors influence cost? Well done on the channel, very cool! subscribing and following.🍻

Hi Hayden, thanks for tuning in and subscribing. I don't give much technical info as these are not training videos and there are competitors that would benefit. If you are across mining blasting, all of the same principals apply, generally I just need to break the rock enough to be excavated, where you want to feed a crusher, so the powder factor that I would use is a lot less. I would use Nonel systems and one hole per delay most of the time and control row and reverse echelon hook up for mass blasts. I don't discuss pricing much but it is affordable, the biggest factors are number of holes and public liability insurance - the cost of which is beyond offensive!

Superb Vid Dave as usual and very satisfying! I saw your comment on Camarata's shale Demo. They were blasting shale which fracctures very easily. The Explosive was delivered by truck and its like it was powder or maybe liquid fed into the drill holes by 1 Inch rubber pipe. :Is that a new method or explosive? I know you will know the answer. I did see that Berty, the "Bulk Truck" is the easiest way to get large quantities of bang, they can deliver strait granular anfo, emulsion and watergel explosive products. The big plus is that the vital components don't get mixed until just before the hose connection, this makes transport a lot safer. Thanks for watching and contributing.

Just checked out your latest upload and like the idea very much, I might give that a try myself. I would be very interested to get some feedback on how it goes. goal is to break the rock into small pieces so it can be moved easily , explosives in holes will do that but a charge under the rock will proberly just lift it up

I've drilled about 45,000 meters, not tired yet! Joe long is right, the dirt will just move out of the way and create a cavity under the rock, you can do it this way if you use a massive charge but the results are unpredictable.
