1) a) the mag well - There is an allen-head set screw on the bottom to tighten up the mag well. b) The mag well is steel. Taylor Freelance makes an aluminum one for RIA (two versions, one for guns that came with a factory mag well and one for guns that did not). It is wider than the factory RIA mag well. Also available from Advanced Tactical. 2) ammunition - a lot of 10mm is loaded light, closer to .40 S&W. Full power 10mm is comparable to .41 Magnum (more powerful than .357, less than .44). Underwood Ammo loads theirs REALLY hot. Check out their 155gr HTP JHP (775ft-lbs) and their 100gr Xtreme Defender (740 ft-lbs) using Lehigh solid copper bullets. They also sell hard cast lead for deep penetration of tough game. My RIA 10mm will also feed and cycle .40 S&W, so you can use less expensive .40 for the range in the same way that you would use less expensive .38 special in a .357 Magnum. 3) all of the RIA A2 (double stack) frames are based on the Para Ordnance/Para USA "Big Hawg"/14.45/16.40/18.9 frame. So the RIA .45ACP uses Para 14.45 magazines from Mec-Gar, the 10mm/.40 uses 10mm Para 16.40 magazines from ACT-MAG, and the 9mm uses Para 18.9 magazines from ACT-MAG. All of them have the exact same geometry at the bottom of the tube, so fit aftermarket extended base pads meant for the Para 14.45 like the aluminum +2 base pad from Dawson Precision and the polymer +2 base pad from Arredondo. Dawson discontinued the Para Toolless +2 base pad, (item #005-004) but if enough people ask for it at sales@dawsonprecision.com they will bring it back. Other parts (triggers, hammers, grips, etc.) that fit Para Hi-Cap frames will fit the RIA A2 frames. 4) Capacity - ProMag makes 170mm 20-round .45 ACP magazines for the Para 14.45 that will fit the RIA .45ACP. Advanced Tactical sells 140mm and 170mm ACT-MAGs for RIA 10mm (18-19 rounds and 24 rounds) and RIA 9mm (19 rounds and 29 rounds) as well as Taylor Freelance aluminum extended cap base pads.

Have you ever heard of some 10mm ammo that's just a tad too long for the double stack magazine that came with the A2? Had this happen to me with American Ordinance ammo but haven't heard of anyone else having the same problem.

I own several Rock island Armory 1911`s. Anyone that turns there nose up at this weapon is very uniformed. I just purchased my third Rock Island Armory 1911. It is The 1911 10mm Tac Ultra full size. It is the standard 8 shot. But the gun is a tack driver and I have never had any of my RIA 1911`s misfire or jam on me.

Best video I’ve seen on this particular gun by far. Thank you so much! You saved me from getting something i May regret. I was torn on a glock 19 and a Ruger Redhawk .357magnum. I wanted the Glock for self protection and the ammo capacity is great for what is it, but I wanted to Ruger for the knockdown power because I live in Colorado and wanted something a little beefier in case I needed it. It seems that this pistol may be the perfect blend of what I need, not to mention the 1911 was my first gun obsession from the young age of 13 and have always wanted one. .45acp is a tad outdated, so I think the RIA 1911 10mm is the perfect compromise

I share the same sentiment as you. My first purchase was a Taurus 1911 45. I had been drooling over Sig Sauers, but couldn't justify $1000-1500 difference in price... 8 yrs and a few thousand rounds later, the only issues I've had are 3 to 4 jams due to dirty magazines at the end of a range day with reloaded ammo. I have no disillusions that it is a GREAT brand, but they clearly did something right with the one I bought.

I had the commander size RIA in 10mm and sold it. It was 8 rnds if I remember correctly. It was a little heavy as a carry gun and since I have a kimber ultra carry 2, I sold it. But I was very happy with fit & finish versus $$. Ive since bought a RIA 2011. It’s the Ultra Tac HC in 9mm/22TCM. I’ve not shot the 22 TCM barrel but I love the 9mm! One of my favorite pistols. With the full length dust cover, it a heavy pistol which tames hot 9mm recoil to extremely low levels. Very happy. Might pickup another in 45 or 40 S&W. I reload and 40 S&W & 9mm range brass is so available I tend to go with those calibers if I’m planning shooting a particular pistol a lot.

Bought one year’s ago and had to do a little work on it. The front sight came off within first mag! Sent it back and they put the wrong height sight back on it. Was shooting 8” high so I just ordered the correct sight and a heavier recoil spring because it was slinging brass 30 yards! It’s now a sweet shooting pistol but not one I could recommend without disclosing the poor CS or QC!

A lot has changed in the nearly four years since I posted this video. I would say some of the reason these changes haven't been big news is that larger companies have been overshadowing RIA in the "news" so to speak. I am a felony probation officer and am allowed to carry essentially any firearm I can qualify with. We have a lot of guys here at the PD and SO carrying Kimber 1911s. Right now I carry a Glock 23 Gen III. It's a fine firearm, but the Glock rep keeps trying to pressure me into going 9mm because he says the .40 S&W round is on its way to obsolescence. I will likely keep the 23 as my duty firearm, but will qualify with this as a backup. Is this gun duty worthy?
@360TacticalSolutions
@360TacticalSolutions 3 жыл бұрын
For duty use…no, I’d pass. For me the gun would have to be sent off to a place like Hays customs to have the reliability package done to it before I would consider it. Personally I’d lean toward something with looser tolerance for a 10mm duty gun. A 1911 platform in 10mm can be really problematic and they do require a lot of regular upkeep that a 10mm Glock wouldn’t need. The 10mm RIA is a pretty heavy gun that I’m not sure id like to carry all day on the hip. The other consideration is the mags. They havent been real easy to find the last couple years. Its a great gun over all…but its not one I would use for duty

@@360TacticalSolutions If I do buy this gun, for any reason at all, it would be my first 1911. I've owned several Browning Hi Power variants through the years, but never dropped money on a 1911. When I think of the deal I passed up 21 years ago on a WWII Remington 1911, I get sick to my stomach. A friend had one with nickel finish and he wanted $450 for it. It needed some reverse electroplating done to repair the finish, and I balked at the price. Told him $450 was just too steep, and if he'd go $350 I'd take it. LOL -- what the hell was I thinking?

@@freepressright 1911 is a great platform, just be aware that its somewhat high maintenance compared to your average striker fired pistol. Mags and extractors have to be regularly tuned in order to keep it running smoothly and it certainly needs more frequent cleaning than my M&P does. Nothing beats the feel of a 1911/2011 as far as shooting though. I think everyone needs at least one in their collection. Maybe pick one up and get some time behind it, watch some video tutorials on tuning mags and extractors and general maintenance. Once you get real comfortable with the platform, then think about it as a duty gun.

I left the two big 1911 groups as well months ago. The I have this brand and it's best attitude is cancer. I don't mind a loose gun or burs on a 1911. But I do expect it to be reliable. So picky on ammo isn't acceptable.
@360TacticalSolutions
@360TacticalSolutions 4 жыл бұрын
SVTBansheeman that attitude is ridiculous. I own an STI. Love it. But you know what...still searching for the RIA HC 9mm. The snobs out there are horrible. As for the picky ammo on the 10mm, I hear that’s typical for a 10mm in the 1911 platform. Had that one not been a loaner I’m sure I could have tuned it a bit and got it to run I wider variety of ammo but you know, loaner gun lol
@Jeff-fd8sc
@Jeff-fd8sc 2 жыл бұрын
Not so much picky about ammo. It's a matter of buying the hotter loaded stuff. 10mm has been kind of put in a bad place because the FBI loading are similar to 40 s/w in terms of power. So when you design a 10mm it's difficult to build one for everything. I run ammo with 600 ft/lbs of energy at the minimum and it's always ran perfect.

What gun doesn’t wobble tho ??. Slides need to be able to slide they will have wobble , great gun btw never had any problems with it and I love it I carry it with no shame and take it hunting knowing that if I need my gun for protection against a threat I know it’ll have my back.
@360TacticalSolutions
@360TacticalSolutions 4 жыл бұрын
Erik Orozco a high end or hand fit hand gun will have right tolerances. The slide and rails should be a perfect match so that there is very little side to side or up and down type of movement while still being able to have a smooth gliding motion forward and back. I’ve handle 1911’s at the same price range as the RIA that have quite a bit of slide movement. That’s ok I guess, they still function but over time as the slide and rails wear the gun is going to get sloppy and breakage will occur. I think the point I was making is the fitment with the RIA is incredible. The slide and rails were filed to such tight tolerances you wouldn’t know it wasn’t a $3000+ gun just going by how well they were done. I’d definitely use that gun hunting or as a defense gun, especially while hiking as we have cougar and bear all over the place where I’m at. Still trying to get my hands on the high capacity 9mm version but those things are real hard to come by these days. Found one last year and I knew I should have got it while I could, still kicking myself in the ass over it

Thats going to boil down to your personal preference and what you intend to use it for. Over all I would go with the RIA over the Glock. The only real advantage the Glock has is that it weighs quite a bit less. Thats only an advantage if you plan to use it as a carry gun and don't like a heavier gun on your waist. The Glock being light is also a disadvantage. The RIA being as heavy as it is helps with felt recoil. The steel frame doesn't flex like the polymer of the RIA. With it being a heavy gun its going to be a bit more accurate over all. The only downfall in a carry situation for the RIA is that it IS heavy lol. This one was a loaner. It belongs to my uncle who is a real big guy. He doesn't seem to mind carrying the RIA, thats his daily carry.

The 10mm round is a hard hitting round that’s basically a .40 S&W sized projectile coming out of a longer casing with more gunpowder. You can actually use a 10mm as a trail gun in case you come face to face with a bear. I had a Glock 23 which is slightly smaller than a Glock 20 and it’s chambered in .40 S&W. That G23 was so unpleasant to shoot and had so much muzzle flip that I ended up trading it for another gun. In a rapid fire situation is was damn near uncontrollable. I couldn’t imagine that a G20 or G40 is much better. You want a heavier gun to absorb that 10mm recoil. I’d go with the RIA for that reason, plus it looks a lot cooler than the Glocks.

@360TacticalSolutions
@360TacticalSolutions 4 жыл бұрын
mr fool you would think a rail would be standard these days considering most people are moving to weapon mounted lights on their carry weapon. RIA has two versions of this gun, one with and one without a rail. This gun was a loaner and belongs to my uncle who is a bit of a purist when it comes to pistols...he’s not a fan of rails and if there’s an option for a pistol without one that’s what he’s going for. I can respect that, and there are a lot of people out there who see it that same way. So it’s nice RIA gives people the option when it comes to a rail. When I can finally find their 9mm in stock I’ll be looking for the one WITH a rail because I’m a firm believer in using a light

Anyone having issues fully loading the mag
@360TacticalSolutions
@360TacticalSolutions 3 ай бұрын
Two major issues with all 10mm guns are mag springs and recoil springs. A lot of companies will put a recoil spring in that is too light for the heavy, full power 10mm rounds so it runs well with cheap range ammo but not full power 10mm. Or they put a heavier spring in and it runs great with full strength 10mm but wont be reliable with cheap range ammo. Similarly many manufacturers tend to run too light of springs in their mags which causes some real issues with feeding. RIA seems to have gone the other direction with their mag springs and my experience is they are really stiff, almost too many coils. It’s great because they are pretty reliable but a pain to load till they are broke in. I would recommend getting a speed loader to help make it easier till the spring breaks in.

360 Tactical Solutions the polymer frame handles the recoil slightly better in the hand because of the flex, and I get less muzzle flip with the polymer 80. I shoot mostly Underwood Ammo or the sig sauer fmj, so it’s full house 10mm, but both guns are super manageable in my opinion.

I bought one on Wednesday ,Glock 20 .I personally like a full size pistol, really it's okay. extended mags are fun 15 round capacity magazines are cheaper than double stack 1911 but Glock holds 15 1911 holds 16.I'm not satisfied I think I'm going to go with the 1911 personally not a fan of Glock in general. Glock magazines are more available I think it comes down to personal preference if there's a shooting range you can go and rent both I would .... Just my two cents

Hey, sorry for the delay. My day job has me working ridiculous hours right now. Personally Id never attempt to sway people to believe the 1911 platform should be retired. Actually Im working on a video right now about custom grips for the 1911. I believe the gun will remain relevant for many years to come. The advent of the double stack, the option for various calibers, the creation of the 2011...these are all advances in a platform thats withstood the test of time. I like the modularity of the 2011, a lot of people like the nostalgic feel of a government issue 1911. That pistol isn't going anywhere any time soon. Everything boils down to preference right? I don't like the feel of a Glock at all. The M&P feels natural in my hand. That doesn't mean the Glock is the wrong gun for everyone it just means the M&P is a better fit for me. The 1911 is the same way. Its not for everyone but perfect for those who it is for

Actually I won't slam you for your opinion. You don't like my video style, that's fine. I tend to focus more on the informational end of things with short clips of the actual shooting footage, which you may have missed if you didn't watch the whole video but again that's fine. My goal is normally to keep videos under 15min and pack as much information as possible into that time. If you are in to videos that are 30+ minutes, minimally informative, loaded with loud guitar riffs, saturated with repetitive shooting footage that could have been cut down by 3/4 and still given you an idea of how the gun recoils and performs....well, this is not the channel for you. No judgement though, everyone has their preferences
