Old Testament or not, carried it for 23 years in the military including 3.5 tours in Vietnam and it gets the job done!At 80 still carrying it, it works, ammunition found all over! Caliber choice is what you can handle and be effective with in a real situation! The Buddy system lets always have a back up for emergencies or unexpected guests! Marksmanship makes it all come together, regardless of caliber!

Thankyou for your service but its a known fact that the 1911 chambered in 45 takes way too much training for the average grunt. Most rounds were fired out of fear at hit nothing. This is why the M1 carbine was issued. 45s in war rarely hit their targets unless in close combat

Nice pistol especially for $400. You might have tested them, if you haven't you should but I've bought 2 models of the Tisas 1911 in the last year. A Tank Commander 9 (Commander 9mm) for $375 and a Stakeout 45 (Govt Model 45) with the bells and whistles for $430. Forged slide and frame, hammer forged barrels and the 9mm is ramped. High quality, very accurate, great sights, no malfunctions (my 9mm has over 1100 rounds thru it) and a pleasure to shoot. I USED to build 1911's and I can't get the quality parts to even start a new build for that price. Amazing pistols at an unbelievable price.

The "false lock" is being caused by the extended ambidextrous safety. You're running a high thumbs forward grip. The side of your firing hand and your thumb can hit the extended end of that style safety and lift it into the slide on firing. If you were to switch that safety for a standard style one, the problem will disappear.

The way the 1911 safety works, that can't happen. It keeps the slide locked in its forward most position. Perhaps you mean the slide stop is bumping upwards? That happens quite often in 1911's with spicy rounds. Shoot right hand only and watch that problem disappear. Its a grip issue.
@lancelotvt
@lancelotvt 8 ай бұрын
I have a Rock Island standard GI model without the Ambi safety and I also had the occasional slide lock issue. The actual problem is due to machining tolerances on the slide stop itself. The part of the slide stop that interfaces with the magazine follower to push it up and lock the slide on the last round is machined ever so slightly too large and can sometimes come in contact with the rounds as they move up in the magazine. This will push the slide stop up like the follower normally would and cause the slide to lock back. As you shoot the gun more the finish can polish down and this will occur less and less. I removed mine and gently made a few passes with a file and polished it up and have not had the issue since.

I own a RIA 1911A1 GI Model and that thing is not only one of the best made handguns I own, but it's also one of the most accurate pistols that I own. That thing even with crappy GI sights, is a tack driver with rounds hitting exactly where I aim. The reason why I think RIA 1911's are so good is because they've been making them in the Philippines almost as long as Colt has been making them. That's pretty much their national firearm. You can tell that people making these take a lot of pride in their craft. No doubt about it, RIA 1911's of any caliber are an incredible value for the quality of the firearm that you get.

That is a good deal! I got my RIA 10mm for about $670 and it needed immediate work. Polished feed ramp and chamber, trigger work (came with an 8# gritty trigger) and a new extractor. It didn’t cost a whole lot to have this done and, while the reliability is still what you would expect with a 1911, it’s much better than it was out of the box.

My g29sf malfunctioned for the first time with new mags while doing a mandatory 6-month qual. The certifier said do you have another firearm I said yes a Rock Island armory full size GI. He said you have one minute to go grab it from my locker. I came back 2 or 3 minutes later normal score of 240 out of 250 this to a 215 would still meet qualification standards. It was mostly the external safety. When you mention the extended beavertail I was bleeding on the range from Hammer bite. I tried to hide it but he noticed and said you're lucky I don't disqualify you just for that nonsense. I tried to slow down later and visualize how in the world I was getting Hammer bite. I guess I have fat hands and I could never quite duplicate the real world scenario. Ultimately I passed and had to carry a full-size 1911 GI for the next 6 months .I told people it's no problem until I got to change back to my Glock 29 then it really hit home to me what I had been missing.

it's called an SLP malfunction (Slide Locks Prior to empty) and the 2 leading causes are bullet ojive being wider than normal (federal flying ashtrays) and contacting the stop inside the mag under recoil and the second reason being a weak slide stop spring that lets the stop flop around too much under recoil.

I have a Rock Island standard GI model in 45ACP and I too have experienced the random "lock back" issue.

RIA make great 1911s. especially with the price point. Love my 9mm with the ambi safety.

Got a RIA Officer’s model in .45 ACP at $330 during the same Daily Deals at PSA. My first 1911.

Hard to turn down for $399.00. I don't need another 1911 but if I find one of these for that price I don't think I could walk without buying it

I believe these went on clearance to get rid of inventory. RIA is not making 1911's for PSA. They are calling it the admiral right now its going for 550

The Girsan 10mm 1911 starts at about $530 plus shipping tax and transfer.. pretty good price for what you get too.

RIA is better than Girsan. Own both.

Hello. I bought the same one from PSA recently for the same price. Couldn’t pass up that deal. Runs great.

My opinion is that RIA makes the best affordable 1911s on the market.

As to false hold open. You may be having an issue with the detent/spring tube on the guns left side. such as the spring were slightly kinked on assembly, or a burr on the detent.

I had a sneaky suspicion that you were talking about the Rock Island 10mm. When you were talking about the price, remember, the Springfield Armory Ronin is about $800. The RIA cost me $599. I bought a RIA Ultra FS 1911 about 5 years ago. It was my first ever 10mm pistol and I love it. I really appreciate the grips on it as well. G10 grips are appropriate for a 10mm, and much better to have than the standard wood grips you get on many 1911s. It has been extremely reliable and a very nice shooter. Don't get mad at me, but I also got the RIA 1911 in 40 S&W. Mainly because it will help complete a collection. Now I just need to get a 1911 in 38 Super.

I just got a brand new RIA double stack 45 for $300. I own Colts and Dan Wessons but I couldn't pass that up.

This one is interesting. I have had the Colt and used it while in the woods just incase I came across a hog or something. However, it had issues and I went to a Glock. If this one is good I may have to add it. I don't trust most manufacturers 1911s and I'm always wondering what has to be replaced to make it right. I do want a Vickers Springfield 1911 though. Or an old Thunder Ranch

Springfield Armory 10mm is a good choice also.

Welcome to the club pard. A set of TruGlo TFO sites and a Hogue MonoGrip and mine was good to go. The one quibble I have is needing a "tool" to field strip it, but aside from that its all thumbs up.
