Salute to Rock and RIP to Ruck... I don't think that a lot of people realize how much of a loss it was to hip hop when Sean passed. Maybe us "older heads" (when I say that I'm referring to anyone born before the 90's) understand, but the strength of his presence in hip hop seems lost on a lot of people. Anyway, salute to the whole Duck Down / BCC & it's affiliates

chocobonita It's good to hear that, especially with the more non commercial / underground music and artists. Good music is good music, and any real fan of hip hop (or really just music in general) should be able to appreciate that. We have too many older dudes knocking the younger generation's music without even listening to it, and the same can be said the other way around. We all just need to keep our ears to the ground and be open to both new and older music, regardless of who makes / made it and when it came out.
@-Jame-7 жыл бұрын
chocobonita I agree with everything that you've said in your last comment. As far as the older dudes trying to adjust to the newer stuff, it works sometimes, but more often than not it just doesn't sound right. It sounds forced a lotta the time. There are some gems out there from older dudes conforming, to a degree, but for the most part they should just stick to what sounds best. When you close yourself off to a certain time period or style and won't give something else a try, you're just cheating yourself. While I prefer stuff more along the line of that 90's boom bap, I do hear some new stuff that I love. We never stop evolving and learning, and anyone who says different is just cheating themselves and setting a poor example to the younger generations. I could go on and on, but I'm pretty sure that we're both on the same page. It would be cool to chop it up some more with you, but again, the comment section of KZbin isn't the place for "good conversation / dialogue". You seem to have a good head on your shoulders and hopefully you can open the eyes and ears of some of your peers. Salute

Ricky Taylor that's what I'm saying. What a huge loss his passing was. He was about as nice with the word play as they come. At least Ruck and Rock came back together before he passed. Look at all of the people who wish that they coulda done the same with Pac, Eazy, Big, etc... We need to stop celebrating people's lives only after they die. You see that shit happening all the damn time and it's like "where the hell were y'all when he was alive!?"

This interview should of went on for atleast another 2 hours. I miss old skool NYC. That's exactly how it was. My mom would always ask, why are there missing kitchen knives?! I used to carry my dad's old military police baton in a mini green duffle bag, be on rooftops with it like, "THUNDER! THUNDER! THUNDERCATS HOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" One time the NYPD saw me do that silly shit and kicked open the rooftop doors and some how didn't catch a single one of us, and we were like 30 deep, LMFAO! Funny thing though, Rock really did break it down. It's just how it was back then. We weren't all braindead thugs back then. Yes we were in gangs, we did our thing, but most of us were in school, went on to college and found careers - some even became professors, lawyers, doctors, shit even acupuncturists with their own offices. We were intelligent, but still street. And it wasn't even about the money but about brother/sisterhood, family outside of family. Then one day you wake up and realize its all the past and you walk right passed people who at one point were trying to shoot you dead, and you just smile and tip your hat to thier kids and wifys and keep walking to do your thing in streets that for you used to be a warzone. Old school New York.
