Blake is a music producer and singer-songwriter that hosts a live podcast geared to helping musicians and producers navigate their music career in a really grounded way. Blake started his career at the age of 15, writing and performing music in bands, and was offered his first publishing contract at the age of 17 years old.
While playing around the state of Texas as a singer-songwriter, Blake ventured into producing albums for local bands in his hometown of Houston, Texas. He quickly established a reputation of becoming the 'go-to' producer for his signature vintage-retro sound. He began mentoring the artists and bands that he worked with, helping align their careers with their goals. As the internet began shaping the music landscape with streaming, Blake then shifted his career into digital marketing strategies and online artist development.
In 2017 he was then hired to run the Music Career Development department of the Los Angeles Film School. After separating with the college in 2022 due creative differences, Blake moved to Gruene, Texas and started his own podcast and music development system aimed to mentor young musicians. He also wrote a book encompassing his entire music system's strategy guide. You can grab a free digital copy of his book here: bit.ly/freemusicbook

@@BlakeMakesMusic yessss 💜 because when bts first started becoming successful, so many people tried to bring them down because they came from a poor and small entertainment company :( it was sad to see. People didn’t want them to succeed because they weren’t rich or because they were Asian.

@@janicax No matter in Asia or in the West, their existence and success threatened (and still do) the STATUS QUO no matter where they are and what they do. It's amazing what is thrown at them, both love and hate. I guess that's why ARMYs are extra protective and want to root them on and shield them from bad things just as they did for others. :-)

First, no one is going to hate you or come after you. Music is subjective and we respect all opinions so no harm done! I wanted to answer your questions in this comment for some clarity. So basically BTS is a South Korean group with 7 members, 4 of which are singers and 3 are rappers (all in their mid to late 20s). It would have been good to know this going in because you then wouldn't expect the "typical structure" given that half of their group are rappers. Most of their songs will have whole verses of rap so that alone negates any typical pop song formula we are used to. There are songs, however, that have just the vocalists or just the rappers if you are more into separation. Though I found it off that you spoke a lot about how pop is guided by a specific formula to please the masses and implied that BTS do the same but at the same time you were speaking on how this song is of unusual arrangement and untypical......if it helps to understand BTS better, just know that they write/produce much of their own work and 100% allow for equal representation of both the rappers and the vocalists. As for song suggestions, I would suggest Fake Love or ON Kinetic Manifesto (mvs with cc subs). If you are interested in songs with just the vocalists then The Truth Untold or House of Cards lyric videos would be good or for just the rappers then Outro: Tear or Cypher 4 lyric videos. On a side note, the music video you just watched probably wouldn't make much sense given it has references and props from all their other music videos (Yet to Come is a celebration for their 9 years as a group). Overall, thank you for giving them a listen.

You say 7 members is too much. But as you deep dive into this group you will realise that without even one member they wouldn't have made it far in their career as a group. All 7 of them have something very important to contribute to the group both musically and in their relationship and dynamic. They have 3 rappers who are also primary songwriters: leader who is the main songwriter, a dance leader/Street dancer who can compose, a producer who also writes, And the 4 vocalists: an actor who can belt like in musicals , a baritone with a huge range who also acts, a centre piece who is main vocal, and a tenor who specialised contemporary dance. Their contributions are very specific so If you remove one person the whole thing collapses. And they have hundreds of songs so nobody is going to complain about a member not getting their time. They have several subunit songs with each other and solo songs within the groups albums. So yeah it worked for them. It can't be replicated by anybody. People have been trying to replicate bts's success for years and failing now both in the Korean music industry as well as the western market.. It's because you can't replicate specific skills and you certainly can't replicate the chemistry they have created over 9 years. They way the produce music is incredibly fascinating. In their album released 2 days ago, proof, they released demo songs... and these demo songs are created by individual members for the group. That's how they work.. they create music individually and then pass it around each other adding details. They also compete with one another to write songs. In the song disease for example, was composed by member jhope. He got stuck at the bridge and couldn't figure it out. And then 2 other members jimin and jk, both did versions of melodies for the bridge and send it to him. One got selected by jhope and made it in the song. In blue and grey composed by member V, RM the primary songwriter and suga the rapper/ producer both wrote verses for the chorus. V selected suga's verse cus it fit his theme better. So yeah there is some fun stuff to explore behind bts too...

They're brothers/family not related by blood. They love each other in a way I've never seen with anyone in the entertainment industry before, like... I don't remember who said it, but someone that works with them said "BTS love each other so much they don't know what to do". They're gonna pause their musical career right now to focus on individual releases for the health of the group because they've been together for 9 years (as a group) and the promotional aspect of their career was exhausting them and they feel burnout from it, they also want to gather more inspiration because they don't know what to write about right now and they're the group's main writers so without their lyrics there are no songs and really dislike singing what other people wrote. And they were all crying/trying not to cry talking about it it was a really emotional video. This song was to celebrate those 9 years and it was made for the fans, not the general public, I think they don't really care what people think anymore when releasing music and that's great

7 is perfect haha. Thank you for your reaction. I think one thing that might help you understand is that this song is not really meant for outsiders. This song is more of a love letter to the fans. BTS makes a lot of music directed to fans and they and their team are the most meticulous with what they release. So it makes complete sense that you don't understand a thing in the music video but to us each and every single moment of this song was a pull on the heartstrings. I think one thing that would be good to understand is that BTS are probably really far from what you would typically imagine a "boyband" would be. Even we as fans kind of get surprised by their choices because these guys have proven time and time again that their priority is their integrity and love for their music and their fans and on countless occasions they have made choices that were contrary to what is logically the easiest and probably more profitable route because they wanted to preserve this part of themselves. I think one good tidbit too is that BTS has one of the highest fan conversion rate that I e ever seen. I'm probably a good example because I'm actually the type of person who enjoys music in a really selfish way. I don't buy music because I know I have free access. I didn't even really care to know who sang some songs I liked because I just liked the song (yeah I know I don't sound like a great music consumer) but basically I was just a consumer of the most common kind. I never followed a specific artist for that very reason because I didn't care enough about the artist. BUT one day I stumbled on BTS and it's still crazy to me that it took a song sung in a language I couldn't even understand to make me stop and really take a look and appreciate music better. It was also the first time in a long time that music had such an effect on me. This group from Korea that I subjected with my prejudices about "boyband" made me stop and really take an interest in music again and by that I don't just mean just their singing but even to appreciate the production aspect and more importantly the Lyrical aspect. I think consuming English popular music really ruined a lot of people to a certain extent. Like you said there's a formula and I think our minds really expect that already that's why it's easy to treat a lot of the new music nowadays as nothing that special or basically more of the same. Same melodies, same song structure, same theme and lyrical content. Kind of like a lot of movies nowadays too TBH. BUT here comes BTS and they're able to make me (formerly most GP of the general public type of consumer) to stop and really want to see what they're singing about because their music made me feel something. When I started reading the lyrics it was honestly such a moment for me because no, they weren't sing the usual love song/bitter breakup song these guys were singing for the self, they made me turn around and take an introspective look at myself. And it might sound over acting but there music made me, for the first time cry for myself. Their music can speak to your soul IF you let them in. Prejudice really can hinder someobe and I am proof of that. Their music has helped me through the hardest and lowest points of my life and at some point even helped me find the strength to wake up each morning. And that helped me love and appreciate music more. A group from complete left field and their music saved my life. Isn't that the power of art? Of music? Haha I'm sure all this sounds so crazy to you at this point because I don't blame you, our world has made walls that keep us boxed in. I hope you stick it out and try to get to know this group because they are a group that have constantly been knocking on and breaking so many walls that I didn't even take the time to care about before. They've also are a group that makes you think that nah that can't be real because of how we normally would see groups from this industry. But I think you will come to know that BTS' sincerity is why they have SO many fans of all ages all over the world. Fans willing enough to try and help you understand why a song you probably view as unconventional and not as sellable is maybe one of the most meaningful because of the connection they made with us. Like I said earlier, this song is not meant for outsiders, it's a love letter and a promise made to their fans. I wish I was more eloquent to explain to you the nuances. It must look like such a simple song to you but the intention behind every part of the music video, the tone of the song, the lyrics are all a message to us. All I can really say is, I hope you continue on their music and their story. We have a saying in this community that BTS finds you when you need them the most. I dunno what kind of change BTS will bring you. I don't even know if this is time for you yet but if it is I'm happy for you. I sincerely am happy for every single person who finds BTS because that means you have the opportunity to experience a possible change in your life (it's different for everyone) but we all are living a life happier now because of these guys. I hope you reach a point when you understand everything I'm trying to say here. It's worth it.

But I had a friend that became Army and at first I just thought...go have fun...but didn’t get it...why would I listen when I don’t speak Korean! But then covid got me watching kdramas...which introduced me to kpop...but it was mostly just back ground music for me. Then Dynamite came out and I thought...yeah fun song but typical boy band! Then BE came out...I thought why not give it a shot! Then life goes on made me cry, Same with blue and grey...then telepathy made me bop same with dis-ease. I was surprised at how varied their songs were! Finally what made me topple into the rabbit hole was their performance of fix you...after that I watch the intro to BTS...then I was Army! Yes I also needed them at the time...I still do!

Actually, they kept the same producers for 9 years, they learn a lot from them, when they were a very small company. BTS was for many years the only Big Hit band, and after so many problems and difficult times they are a family. They are not a million people, and now they have more budget, but if you see their MV of 2013, they will also be perfectly produced even though they were almost bankrupt at the time. Because in Korea, they work very hard and try to always give their best, they don’t do anything halfway. It’s cultural. Even the director of the MV is with them from the beginning. Even the CEO loves them as his children, the staff and everyone who works with them adore them. Because thanks to them the agency is so great, but also because they are kind and humble guys. Based on the content of your channel, I think you’d like to know the story behind the success of BTS. Because they had everything against and despite that they came out ahead, being faithful to themselves, and being faithful to the message they wanted to give to the public. Today they are not only 0.3% of Korea’s IPB, but they are UNICEF’s ambassadors in the world and there are countless testimonies that they literally saved lives. And they have the most faithful and organized fanbase in the world. Last year, for their birthdays alone, thousands of charity events were held in their name in 110 countries. For you to understand this phenomenon, I recommend a fan-made but professional-level documentary 'The Rise Of Bangtan' is in chapters, and tells they story from the beginning before debuting, and the Korean social context and explains the Kpop industry.

Hi! Welcome to BTS. This is not Kpop, is just BTS. They do a lot of diferents genders. Kpop isn't really a gender, is a industry, and BTS do his own way beside that industry. This particular song, is a song for fans since lirycs to MV. 9 years ago, they first MV was in a school bus. This song is very emotional to us, and like another people say before, don't expect traditional formulas or structure, they are very creatives, SUGA, one of the rappers, is a crazy beat maker and amazing producer. All the guys write, produce, compose. They are artist, not a product, and have total control of his music. They're really hard workers and BTS and ARMY (fans) have a very strong bond. They do a lot for us, so, we try to give back working hard for them too. This new album is an antology, so I think its a good start, songs from 2013 to today. Strongly recomend 'RUN BTS', the other new single, is soooo good, much more strong, much more BTS attitude. Some songs for the album that i think you like: No More Dreams (2013) N.O. (2013) Boy in Luv (2014) Danger(2014) Burning Up (Fire) (2016) DNA (2017) I'm a 40 Y Old metal head & ARMY, I know a lot of metal heads that become fans. Thank you for giving BTS a chance! I think you were a little confused with the MV because this one was basically one huge callback to some of their previous works since this song is a song to wrap up their 9-year long career. Closing a chapter in a way. So I think mostly BTS fans (ARMY) got the biggest kick out of it (I for sure shed a few tears because of the references being so meaningful, even their outfits were connected to their past works). If you want to see an amazing MV, I would say try the MV for "Fake Love" or "ON" since they would make more sense plot-wise. One heavy with the plot is also "Spring Day" but I would recommend watching the explanation video made by fans since it is a little difficult to understand it without context. You are right, they have a big company behind them, but they are the ones who basically allowed this company to bloom (it was a very small company at the beginning so their beginnings were difficult). Anyway I hope you will stick with BTS for a while, check some more of their music. :)

one or two small details about the band (and a bit about K-pop) firstly K-pop is not really a musical genre but rather a term for the Korean music industry. It will in fact combine several musical genres in a single song. second, ARMY (BTS fandom) won't come after anyone who doesn't like a BTS song, as long as the criticism is constructive and not based on preconceptions or racism. So never worry if you don't like a song. Fans will come instead to offer you songs that you might like. A lot of BTS fans come from either the hip hop world or the metal world and all ages, countries, cultures are represented. I personally am 46 (soon to be 47) I grew up listening to Metallica, Guns and Roses, Queen, the Beatles, Michael Jackson. French singers from the 70s like Brel (he is Belgian) Piaf, Aznavour a bit of Rap (but French I never looked into American rap). thirdly BTS is composed of 7 members 3 rappers (RM, Suga and Jhope) and 4 vocalists (Jin, Jimin, V and Jungkook) All members write, compose and or produce most of their songs (Suga was originally hired as a producer) They also have internal producers at the Label and sometimes collaborate with foreign authors, composers and producers. big hit at the beginning was a very small company which had only little budget and influence to ensure the promotion of the group. But today it has become one of the biggest companies in Korea.

Thank you so much for giving these amazing men a chance. I appreciate your honesty, open-mindedness and constructive criticism. First and foremost, kpop is not a genre of music but an industry (There are so many genres of music in th kpop industry and most times (if not everytime) they fuse many genres into songs to make new genres) of what I would call "Visual music". It's a very visual heavy music industry. There are hundreds of kpop groups and if you watch any of their music videos you will understand why I say "visual music". I wouldn't categorize BTS as a pop group because they have done almost every genre on the face of the earth.....hip-hop, trap, pop, EDM, ballads, edgy rock, rock infused with metal and hip-hop, latin pop, South African Gqom, Jazz, neo-soul, R&B, etc. It's not an exaggeration to say that they are their own genre. In my own opinion, yet to come was meant to be just a nostalgic song for armys and bts to reminisce on the past 9 years of their musical career instead of being a record-breaking banger song, thus the minimal simplicity in the production of the song and music video. Of course it holds more water in terms of meaning to those who followed their journey from their humble beginnings, but to someone who knows nothing about them, it's just an okay song. I think this song is meant to be a door between chapter 1 of their career and chapter 2 which is yet to come, thus it wasn't as memorable as their past title tracks but It makes sense as a title track of their anthology album. Yet to come is a great bridge between old school BTS and new school BTS. You asked recommendations for BTS songs that are different from ytc. No BTS song sounds like ytc by the way as I've mentioned before, they are very versatile. They have 250+ songs in their catalogue that are all different from each other, so it's very hard to choose a song to recommend as I love 98% of their songs. What makes their songs even more impactful is their lyrics...it's one thing to make bangers, but it's another thing to make meaningful bangers and BTS are one of the few artists who make meaningful bangers. The fact that the members are involved in the production, composition and lyric-writing process of the songs also adds to the impact of their songs. Also most of their songs are connected as they make albums that tell a cohesive story and they also reference lyrics from other songs, so if you are not an army, you won't get it (That's why there are youtube channels dedicated to explaining their music videos and lyrics). Another thing is that the English translated lyrics on youtube don't do justice to the actual Korean lyrics of their songs (so much is lost in translation...the beauty in their lyrics is most times poorly translated on youtube, especially by fan-made color coded lyrics), which is a bummer.,so if you are interested in their lyrics I suggest the website "doolsetbangtan" which is dedicated to correctly translating their songs....I mean it's not 100% correct translation as Korean and English are two completely different languages, but it's the most reliable source of their translated lyrics. Enough of my ranting, sorry I got carried away😅😅. I just love this group and what they stand for. Anyways, here are my song recs (title tracks with music videos):Not Today, Fake Love, Dionysus, ON, Black Swan, Mic Drop, Save Me, Spring Day, Blood Sweat & Tears, Fire. There are more title track songs with mvs that I would recommend but it would make my comment long. Their title tracks are great but their b-sides (which don't have music videos) are even better in my own opinion. Props to you if you have read my comment up to this far, coz this was a along comment lol, sorry. Have a nice day.

Hi, Blake! It might be overwhelming to receive and read tons of comments from army here. lol. Let's just say that we are very passionate about BTS and may even seem look like a bit overprotective. But for very good reasons. They have gone through so much hardship and much of it was racism and xenophobia. BTS have literally changed the lives of many armys , to the extent some of us will say that BTS saved our lives. I am 36 and grew up listening to different artists, groups and bands from older generation (from Nirvana, Pearl Jam, RHCP, eminem, snoopdog, to nsync and Backstreet Boys). When I decided to dive in into BTS (it was honestly because I wanted to know why they were so popular), I was blown away by their discography. As a fan of rap, BTS trully understand what "rhythm and poetry" is and give it justice. Then as I kept listening to them I kept on finding new genres so I was left confused yet hooked at the same time.😄 I really like your reaction because it's honest, clueless about things here and there (which is 100% understandable), and you gave some useful insights from production standpoint. I'll look forward to your next BTS reaction. Have a nice day! I'd love to see your journey with BTS and army (we are inseparable honestly).

I respect your opinion. However, my personal opinion is that the most of the pop songs are so boring because like you said how they are so structured and so predictable. To me creations don't have to fit in certain frame and formula that people made. Also with singing groups, usually one member shines and the rest are like ok, they are there. What makes BTS different than them are everyone has very distintive colors and shines on their own in a group. There are vocal, rap, dance, story and meaning behind, wardrobe, scenery and music. It's a multi-packaged product which is not seen from usual pop groups. They don't produce just pop. They come up with all kind genres of music and that makes fans to have an excitement and an expectation what their next song be like. Also, their songs (not all but the most of their songs) have genuine meanings that reach fans and give relatable feelings. Many of their songs are inspired by classic books, arts, from their own experiences, psychology & philosophy and they make fans to think, read and study.

They usually team up on verses. One person will sing a chorus verse and another verse, then they will flip flop with someone else. They also have solo songs and unit songs (where they team up with only a few of the members), and do collabs. Sometimes there will be a rap line song with just the 3 rappers, and a vocal line song with the 4 vocalists. Some songs the rappers will shine more (like this one), some the vocalists will shine on. They will sometimes write lines for one another if they think another member fits it better, and the rappers nearly always if not always, write their own lines.

A difficult first song to react to with regards to the MV, as you have no basis for all the references (20 or so throughout). It's actually pretty controversial as a release, being the lead of an anthology, and basically a full stop on a nine year career. Depending on what you are into, the range of genres is huge. Fake Love is one that lends itself to a rock ear (not that it is particularly rock, but lends itself), then you have releases such as Dionysus, On, Mike Drop. Ages here are from 24 to 29.

Thanks so much for this reaction! No worries if this song isn’t your style BTS have so many songs with so many different styles there’s bound to be some that aren’t your favourite, one thing I would recommend tho if you’re going to listen to more BTS songs (which I hope you do!) is not listening to them with an idea of what you already think BTS are, BTS are so different from every artist out there, KPOP and western groups both, if you go into BTS expecting ‘typical’ boy band you’re going to be blind sighted by their rapping skills or heartfelt ballads or high energy rock sounding songs, they truly have so much diversity in sound and also have songs that are solos and sub-unit (multiple members but not all) that really showcase each individual member. I’d recommend their new track Run BTS as its very different from Yet To Come and really shows their diversity, also Singularity, Moon, Filter, Begin, Interlude: Shadow, Intro: Persona and Outro: Ego are solos I recommend if you want to hear each individual member and their styles, thanks so much for giving our boys a chance! 💜

Thank you for your first reaction! Many people that are not army and haven’t been following their journey will get a bit confused due to this is their song just more of a recap of their 9 years journey. This is more of a celebratory song and other army were right, this is basically a love letter between BTS and army closing their 9 years chapter to begin a new one. In Korea, 9 years is basically a full end of cycle. I thought I read that somewhere but I’m not 100% sure, other army probably can help reclarify my statement there. Please continue your journey with BTS and let me know what type of songs or what you’re looking for in their large catalog, and I would be happy to recommend something. I’d say their live show is far better than their MVs but you almost have to check out the lyrics first. What I’ve heard is that typically a kpop idol group don’t go over 7 years. This is because the usual contract would be for 7 years and in Korea every male are required to do military service for two years so by the end of 7 years many kpop idol go to the military and groups start to disband. Luckily BTS signed up again after their seven years but now it’s time for them to go onto military service. The maximum age to go do this is 30. 2 years age that maximum was 28...that meant that their eldest member Jin was supposed to go to the military 2 years ago but then the law changed and they made the maximum age to be 30. So BTS was able to stay together for another two years. They didn’t really expect this. Their albums usually come in a series and follows a theme. When the pandemic happened they were able to bring out a very personal album about their feelings during lockdowns, BE. But after this the members felt they had nothing left to say...they needed to recharge their battery. So they brought out English singles that were written for them meant to penetrate the US market. But now it’s time for the new chapter. They are going to go solo for a bit so they can grow individually. I suspect they will also take this time to start military service. They are supposed to release and album each...they already decided on release sequence. I suspect the go after they finish their solo projects.

a producer not having heard any BTS music? The artist that won Artist of the Year at the AMAs last year? The artist named Entertainer of the Year of TIME Magazine in 2021? How much prejudice must these music industry insiders have!

Thanks for reacting to BTS. I won't repeat comments, but you mentioned their ages. Jin, the eldest (hyung) is 29, and Jungkook, the youngest (msknae) is 24. They were teens when they started, Jungkook was 15 at debut. They are all young men now. They have been the best selling artist in the world for the past 2 years. Their new album Proof sold 2.1 million copies the first day. The reason for that is long, complicated, and beautiful. If you continue to explore their music you will learn why. They are not your typical boy band or Kpop band. BTS is something extraordinary. All the best.

Thank you for reacting and for your honest reaction... I do understand what you mean about how having a lot of members and making sure that all the members have a piece of piece of song to be a part of can lose the sound of the song.... 1st- This song really isn't meant to be big, hit song. It was released as a song for their fans to tell them that they haven't changed, they will not change, they promise to keep coming back for more, etc... Personally, I LOVE the song just because of how personal it is however I do understand it isn't a "hit" song. I feel not every song needs to be that way... 2nd- You will realize that all the members in this group are all VERY important and all have important roles in the group. They help one another grow and be better since the beginning. I also think as an ARMY (fandom name) we strive to make sure to push OT7 because every member is need. They all help each other mentally, physically and emotionally. 3rd- The Industry was against them (honestly almost all industries are still to this day is against them, lol). They have gone through a lot together. They came from a very small company that almost went bankrupt at one point to being the most lucrative group in Korea. 4th-They do, do solo work and even work with just a few of the members. They even do songs with just the rap or vocal line. 5th-It is common in Kpop to have rap in their songs 6th-Very common in Kpop to speak a few words or lines in English 7th-Do keep in mind kpop isn't a genre it is an industry. Just like the American Industry was all sorts of genres so does Kpop. BTS write, compose, and produce their own music, alongside their in-house producers. BTS write about a lot of important topics such as; mental health, regret, follow your dream, bullying, self love, etc. BTS are very open about their lives (even some of their personal lives), they are very funny and chaotic, but still very humble. "they look like they appreciate each other" < this is why we say BTS is a family. They've actually lived together since before they debuted in 2013; at first in a 1-bedroom apartment with 3 bunk beds & a single in the one room. You've been given a ton of information below so I won't repeat what I've read already in the comments, but one thing I don't remember seeing is that you can find many genres in their albums: (the below amongst others that I'm sure I'm missing) neo-soul: Singularity Moombahton: Blood sweat & tears EDM: DNA Rock: Dionysus R&B: House of Cards Ballad: Awake Latin: Filter Hiphop: Outro: Tear Pop: Idol (this video was their 1st with a LOT of CG, it was meant to be crazy)

This song is directed to us, Army, their "first" chapter lasted nine years and their are telling us it is closed in order to begin another one. The MV (not just this, all) is full of symbolism, any costume, prop, scene relates to a song. The album Proof is an anthology of their career (nine years) in it there are 3 new songs, all of three are messages to us, remembering their career and our relationship. When you said "the industry behind them", well, at their beginnings the Korean music industry attacked them a lot, they struggle a lot to be where they are today, nothing was easy. I like to see you went on, but you need to dig their huge discography. You will find so many styles, so many voices... ah! the best thing in this group is that, even being seven members, you don't notice it, because the transitions are perfect. Everyone has his own vocal characteristic, his own musical taste that combined gave us those special songs. About structure... thank God they aren't ruled by it, the eternal repetition of the same structure is making a lot of boring music, all of them similar. After hearing 5 sec you know the whole song... Not with them! Oh! And I was forgetting the main thing... they produce not just beautiful song, good rhythms but they have a social purpose, to give us motivational, empowering lyrics... they give voice to the underdogs... That's why so many people, from different ages, gender, races, cultures are united as Army. (I'm a Latin woman, 65yo).

i read some of the comments and see armys are doing great with giving you info so i wont repeat them much however i do want to recommend some videos and do not worry about no one watching long videos we love actually seeing new people get to know the group not just doing it off screen. because bts is one of a kind where most of your comments do not apply to them in particular. it does apply to some groups or artists in korea but bts story is very unique they were underdogs in their country and the way they gained success in the west was also a underdog story too. so i suggest to react to their song Run BTS as it has some rock elements its off the same album as yet to come. for videos i suggest reacting to this is bts introduction to bts by Xceleste, bts hardships 2013 - 2021 by Xceleste and how bts paved the way by bbygangmag these videos plus bbygangmags other videos will help you a lot in understanding bts their journey and how the korean music industry works. as well as how bts was treated by both the korean and western music industry/medias.

Hey Blake, First of all, Thank you for giving BTS a chance. I appreciate your honesty, open-mindedness and constructive criticism. I´ve read a few comments and saw that ARMY did already a great Job. =) The only thing that I didn´t read was about the age question. The youngest member is actully 25 years old and the oldest memeber is 29 years old. if you did get an answer already, then I´m sorry about that. Although I really do hope that you will check out more of BTS´s music. By the way, you´ve mentioned that you only know Psy as a K-Pop artist. Actully Psy and one of BTS´s memeber "Suga" did release just recently a song together called "Psy - That That (prod. & ft. Suga of BTS)". Maybe you would like to check that out as well. (If there are any mistakes in my comment than I apologize for that, I´m from Germany and i am still trying to improve my English👍😄 ) I hope you have a wonderful rest of your week. Hi ☺️I liked your approach you gave your gut feelings first then as you listened more you rethought some of your earlier comments and adjusted. It’s clear you are giving genuine specific feedback on their music and we really appreciate honest feedback. Like another commenter said we don’t hate people for having an opinion so long as they don’t think that opinion is fact or better than anyone else’s. Not sure what you meant by Superfan but based on your whole reaction I’m gonna believe that you didn’t mean we are all empty headed blind fans who just love everything BTS. If you delve in beyond just their music you will find out much more about fandom at its core. This group is the most popular in the world and I’ve seen a range of music producer reactions some of whom seem to still not get why they are that popular when they regard the music as just ok. Again you would need to delve in more beyond the music to understand this. There has never been a group or an individual Artist that has inspired this many fans worldwide across cultures genders and generations. Some reactors still don’t get it and the music industry both western and the general Korean big companies hated it because they played no part in their success whatsoever. I hope you continue we don’t need you to like their songs but their discography is so diverse I dare say you will find something acceptable to you. The lyrics and message in their songs is a very large part of why we love them so much. If you’re not into analysing them it’s ok. One last thing - your first comment .. “this is very produced” is it more so than other western popular artists? I’ve heard some rant about overproduced music in Oasis to Guns and Roses and more. Nevertheless I respect anyone’s opinion if they don’t like but you are going to find it in BTS music just as you will in others. Sometimes we feel because of BTS popularity newbies place a higher harsher expectations and make comments they wouldn’t to other artists who do the same. Looking forward to to your next review thanks for this one ☺️🙏

Thank you for your comment! That’s all really interesting. But just to clear it up, in the music industry “super fan” isn’t a negative thing. It’s a word used to describe people who are just really really into an artist. I’m a super fan of the band Coheed and Cambria and also (non-music) Marvel comics stuff. I’ll buy like cool exclusive stuff and also go see them live, etc versus a person who may just be into the music and not buy much Merch. As far as very produced, what I mean by that is mainly how processed some parts of the vocals were, mainly at the beginning. Again not a negative thing but it caught me off guard because it’s new to me. And you are 100% right about other artists being over produced. It’s all mainly a genre thing and in production what is working for the sound someone is wanting to get. It works for some sounds and not for others. This is pop so it works. Would sound weird using the same thing on let’s say a rock or folk record.

The oldest is 29, the youngest is 24. This video is an homage to their entire career and is created specifically for the Army as the viewer. They are not trying to catch anyone right now in this song. You would have to have a very full history with BTS for the video to make sense. And for those who do understand this video, it is a heartbreaking soft good bye to their longest and most dedicated Armies. It took me probably five times watching it before I could watch without crying. Even before their announcement, you knew what they were saying in this video. The handwriting was on the wall, so to speak. So this one is still very emotional right now.

My dad was a musician who tried hard to make a living from creating music but ended up teaching in a music store. One of my step-brothers formed a band that didn't make it but he managed to make a career in Monterey CA anyway. Enough of a career to put his two kids through college. I am very proud of his accomplishments. If KZbin had been around the stories might have been different. This is an exciting time for musicians. 💜

We're always glad to have someone listen to BTS for the first time. every it's song may not be to your liking and for a first time listener its not a good song bc there are references to past BTS songs in the cinematography. I think that you'd probably like their new track Run BTS, which is a mix of rock, hip hop and r & b. There's no video yet. BTS' music is primarily about substance. Not a lot of pop fluff except possibly their 3 all English songs release around Covid. I was sceptical to watch your video bc you listed yourself as a rock producer. Usually if someone has a preference for a specific genre, its hard to get them to appreciate a different sound. Lets be clear, BTS doesn't have a genre. They were considered a Kpop group when the started in 2013 but they have transcended genre specifics and are now just BTS, not Kpop group BTS. As a BTS ARMY, I purple you (Borahae) for taking time to listen. P.s. you're entitled to your opinion, but please listen more. Not every point has to be made by stopping the video. You tend to lose something the more that's done.

Also, I stop the video though because I have so many thoughts popping up in my head and i'll lose them if I continue without saying them. You've been inundated with info so I'll just add that when you commented on the chorus coming in near the end of the song it was actually the second time it came around. As others pointed out the song and the MV are very meaningful to the fans as they wrap up their first chapter. ARMYs will sometimes have a favorite (bias) or two but if you don't love all seven, you're not ARMY. Re line distribution it's always based on who is the best fit or combination for a particular part. There's no pettiness or jealousy among this group, who are family to each other. One last thing, in their debut MV 9 years ago they began by exiting a school bus. That makes the ending more poignant and understandable. Subscription added.

So I just want to add one thing to the already existing comments. Your comment about feeling out of immersion because of 7 people on a track is interesting. I always believed having different type of voices on a track makes it interesting and less boring. Especially with BTS, where you have such a range between 4 vocalists and 3 completely different rappers. I always loved hearing the same part sang by different BTS members in their styles. I guess it might also be a matter of getting used to the voices first. That said, I enjoyed your reaction. :) Yet to come might not be BTS' best song but it's very nostalgic to their fans and let's be honest BTS are all about their fans. Like they say in the song, they aren't about the expectations and the trophies, otherwise they could have easily released a super poppy track to follow up on the success they had in America with Dynamite and Butter.

The success of Kpop and BTS are "distinct cousins" and complicated. Maybe begin with *"No* *more* *Dream"* from the channel 1theK (counts as official and has subtitles which some of the first BTS MVs don't have - Fire has a misstranlation on the official channel) And than you will know why the school bus is so important. With about 300 or more songs since their debut on June 13th 2013 they have tried a wide range of genres. For example "Singularity" is Neo-Soul and "Airplane Pt. 2" and "Filter" are Latin based. "Seoul Town Road" is a remix of "Old Town Road" and therefore more country. Just to name a few of the more interesting genres they tried. "Fire", "Dope" and "GoGo" sound like fun songs, don't they? and yet they are social critical if you know about "Korean spoon-theory" and "n-po generation" - which a lot of fans do. XCeleste has a short intro "This is BTS". If you have time "The Rise of Bangtan" is brilliant with lots of context and music. Some good video essays are made by bbygangmag like "BTS vs K-Pop". Jin was born in december of 1992 and JK the youngest - was born 1997 (and will turn 25 after our way of counting, soon - Koreans count a little differently. You are 1 year old when you are born and turn 1 year older at the New Year - bad for V (Taehyung) as he is born on 30.12.1995) RM (Namjoon) came from underground rap where he was already known despite his young age. Suga (Yoongi aka. Agust D) was known as a rapper and beatmaker - he recently made a new "Over the Horizon" remix. J-Hope on the other hand was a successfull Hiphop/Street Dancer (he aso had lessons) and had even won a trophy on a national level and learned from them. He has a rather sweet flow. RM shows of on his mixtapes with for example "Joke" , "Do You", "Forever Rain" and "Seoul" (+"Reflection"). Suga is more known for "Agust D", "The Last", "Nevermind", "First Love", "People" and "Daechwita". J-Hope has only one mixtape but is likely to drop an album, soon: "Daydream", "Blue Side", "1verse" and "Mama" The vocal line is more complicated. Jimin was and is a very good dancer in both modern dance and Hiphop. His voice is described as angelic because of its color: "Lie", "Promise" and "Filter" come to mind. Jin has done "Yours", "Abyss", "Super Tuna", "Awake" and "Moon". His voice has only become better. Taehyung has begun with "4 o'clock" and done stuff like "Winter Bear", "Sweet Night", "Stigma" and "Inner Child". He is the Bariton among the vocalists. JK is super-talented. The first solo he sung was "Begin" but he has done so much more. So maybe "My Time" and "Still With You". He usually has the most lines. All these songs I named? Most are very personal. BTS was involved in writing lyrics - in some case the music creation intself - but at a minimum in the content. You want political? Maybe "Am I wrong" (no MV but an interesting choreopraphy) or the queen "Spring Day" (still in the Korean charts after being droped in spring of 2017 - but I'd watch "what you still don't know about bts spring day" by Italian Army to understand the MV). BTS also does concept albums: "Wings" is based Herman Hesse's "Demian" (book). "Map of the Soul" describes Carl Jung's psychological theories and applies them (it is a standard book about them). Sadly they have stated they are going on hiatus from the band and are planing solo albums. After about a decade where they were hurried from one thing to another and had little breathing room they have formed a family but they still need to find out where they are going, who they are as Individual adults and maybe more personal endevours. But I'm confident that in a few years - I hope for less but I don't think that is realistic - they will come together again (also military service). Untill recently they also still had a luxury dorm that they shared when they had the same schedule but also their own places for years. They are 7 very different personalities which makes it sometimes a wonder that they got along that well. We have so much more content than MVs, Interviews and Variety shows that we can say with confidence that they are close but have very distinct personalities and interests. But that also led to letting their Individuality step behind the need of the group. With 9 years running and a clear telling what is going on - they also told us most of what is going on in their inner selfs/conflicts with the group - and a wish to be toggether on stage in 20, 30 years? We have not seen the last of them as a group. You nice! Keep going!

[11:52 ->] I totally lost it so bad bursting out to laugh, when you said maybe the MV is not supposed to mean anything.. 💜 When I JUST was - once again - celebrating Jin and Tae switching their parts of covering the eyes from Blood Sweat and Tears MV (also you notice BTS BST pun here?).. Yeah we know you have not seen all their other MV's that this whole video are referencing to. Also it is a song for us the fans, who know them possibly better than their own blood family, and not a song for outsiders.. This is a "family song" between them and us. There is lots of those. They make songs for just for us from them, and the real meaning(s) are lost to everybody else, until they learn enough.. If they want to. (Also ARMY makes songs for BTS.) Like when this MV starts We start sobbing seeing That Car.. Because it has so much memories. There is a full on game, comic and several MV's (just about 10 or so, that's not much in their 300 songs catalogue ;D) about it - to cut the list short for you concerning That Car. Also the desert has a meaning as itself. Their outfits are references to their past outfits.. It is almost like the air that they breath has a meaning in this MV. I'm sure others gave you the FULL list of references second by second as they survived their laughing fits ;D 💜 I'm getting coffee to survive this - and don't make me spit that to my screen that would have happened with that comment, if I had not just eaten my last bite (of BTS's youngest inspired meal).

[15:22] "Now what I am watching?" You are watching BOTH of their first MV (US schoolbus) - AND - the song we call Our Queen, real name of the song is Spring Day (their sitting order and what they are doing) and since it came out it (February 13, 2017) has NOT left the charts in Korea.. (It is officially longest charting song in their country, possibly forever.)

Just for context, there is nothing in any BTS video that is there by accident, everything has a deeper meaning which Army loves because they are not superficial artist, their songs have meaning. Every scene here is a reference to their past videos and it’s a recap if you will of their musical career up to now, as the lyrics say “the past was honestly the best but the best is what comes next, the best is yet to come”. It’s alluding to a chapter ending and new chapter beginning in their musical career. This song, along with Run BTS are new songs on their recently released anthology album, so it goes with the theme. They are not only good friends they are brothers and are so supportive of each other. I believe this is what makes them so great, no one is trying to outshine the other, they’re all just giving their own personal best and they’re all supportive of that which makes them excel as a unit. I would recommend Black Swan or fake love next, as a musician, I feel you would really resonate and appreciate the message. The arrangement of their songs sound “different” to our ears at first because it’s not what we’re used to in the US but you will come to appreciate their style the more you listen. Lastly, they have great respect and love for ARMY and are so humble in always acknowledging that the fans, along with their incredible talent and hard work, have brought them to where they are today. As they say, that awareness helps keep them grounded and that’s why we love them. Thank you for being open and reacting to BTS, a true musician appreciates all music- diversity sparks creativity!

Ha. Yes. You are brand new. We welcome you. "It has no meaning." Ha. Every....everything you see relates to every past MV they have ever done. Their clothes, sets, props, sounds, movement, choreography, poses, settings, order they are sitting in, and everything refers back to Every MV they have done. It's a song to honor their 9th birthday. Do they hang out?? Go find out. Watch their TV show to laugh hysterically. It's called RunBTS. They have lived together most of their lives. They don't now. They all graduated high school. Many have college degrees even Master's. Age range 24 to 30. I beg you. Don't judge them just on this song. They have broken every record the Beatles, Elvis, Michael Jackson, and everyone's ever made! Dive deeper. Thanks for your honest reaction. I subscribed to watch your BTS journey. We love watching new people finally "get them" and understand how talented they are. Concentrate on them for awhile. Please.

Their ages are 25-30 years old. And the music video has a ton of symbolism for fans that you would have to know their back catalogue to understand. For example, they walk off a bus at the beginning of their very first music video.

Bts literally building themselves up and for the company also. They started of small, very2 small in the big industry and was predicted to fail. They are the real underdog that has taken the world. They are underdog before going to mainstream. But now they are the most successful band in the world. This mv is a sum up for their 10 years career in music industry as a bts.

I think what you are finding so jarring was that you were expecting an extremely marketable song, and instead you got something that could have been extremely marketable, but instead wasn't. The reason is that BTS didn't care about how popular this song would be. They are taking a break now from making music as a group to focus on their solo music. They aren't doing any more promotion or performances for this song, this song was really not "meant" for the general public, it was meant for their fans. The other thing people don't realise one of the most important aspects of BTS is their lyrics. The best way I can think to describe BTS is an socially-critical emo group that have disguised themselves as pop so more people will hear their music. This is a group that risked their entire career to release a political protest song during a period of significant political corruption and media censorship in South Korea. I know lots of people are recommending you listen to Run BTS, but if you struggled with Yet To Come, I think Run BTS might break you, also, the lyrics probably won't make much sense to a non-army. Maybe wait until you have heard some different songs before you get into the chaotic rock/hip hop masterpiece that is Run BTS.

End: they debuted 9 years ago wearing black and fighting with the world, coming in on a school bus, now they are wearing white and at peace leaving on a school bus - it comes full circle. And with each other and their fans, even the desert is an ocean. And there were references to at least 3 other songs in that last shot (No more dream, spring day, and Sea).

I have already seen your most recent reaction n ik m late, n everyone have already said already I just wanna do it as well (I sound lame but) This song was more of a wrap up to their 9 year journey and a gift to fans rather than the locals, so I understand your confusion, come back to this video once you are deep DEEP in the hole, nostalgia will hit like a truck then :) Also thank you soo much for being soo respectful to them, appreciate that.
