Joe is one of the key players of early British rock 'n' roll. When Johnny Kidd and The Pirates were supported by the Beatles just before Love Me Do was recorded, the Pirates asked Kidd what he thought of the not yet Fab 4. Kidd replied "They're good but they'll never be as big as Joe Brown". A bit earlier in the year the Fabs had sneaked a backstage photo posing with Joe's guitar. It's a massive shame that none of the "Boy Meets Girls" shows or it's follow up "Wham!!" were preserved on film / video. They'd fully demonstrate what Bob says in this clip, that Joe was the Jimmy Page of that era. He was one of the very first British "guitar heroes" and by all accounts a terrific bloke. He also gave Hank Marvin his echo box pre-Apache. What a dude.

When the beatles supported Joe in their early days, legend goes that while he was out of the way George picked up his (Joe's) guitar, Joe saw him and wasn't best pleased. Of course they became great friends and it was fitting that Joe closed the concert for George. Nice man is Joe. Never heard him say anything bad about anyone, or vice versa
@Kevin-mx1vi Жыл бұрын
It sounds funny, but an instrument - especially a guitar - is a very personal thing. You set a guitar up to be exactly right for yourself, and they're sensitive so you're afraid that someone else handling it might change something you've taken a lot of care to get "just so". One thing I learned early in my musical career was not to touch someone else's guitar without their permission, so I can understand Joe not being pleased.

This ignorant old American has to do a deep dive on Joe Brown. What I know about music can fit on the head of a pin! Clicked on this because of Bob Harris. That voice. I still periodically watch his interview from the early 70's with a twenty-something Linda Ronstadt, who was still a fledgling songbird trying to take flight. She was adorable and Mr. Harris was so respectful asking such insightful questions and listening so intently.
