The band he's playing with are all British musicians, rather than his regular band. This Bloodstock was just as pandemic restrictions started to be lifted. There had been limited capacity "Pilot." festivals, to test the viability of festivals returning. But Bloodstock 2021 was one of the first UK festivals to return at full capacity. Devin had to fly to the UK ten days before the performance, isolate for a week, then had 2 days for in person rehearsals with this band (they had done some work over zoom, but clearly that's not ideal). Having not seen live music since early February 2020, this was a truly joyous occasion for me, it bought me to tears at one point.

Dev's back went out while quarantining in his hotel room before this main stage show. He was on the floor and needed help up. He was fitted with a back brace and somehow made it through the set. He is a legendary performer who works the whole crowd all set. His backing musicians usually just stand in place while he does his thing. This was the first time playing with these guys because of covid restrictions.

Been watching Townsend reaction videos for about three years. Yours is the best from a technical vocalist that can produce what Devin does. Now go make music and have ppl react to you ;)

This was a fantastic and knowledgeable reaction, I learned a lot of stuff from this. I'd offer to throw money at your patreon (if you have one) to give feedback on my old band recordings to see where I should improve in future but you probably don't want to open the door to a million mediocre and terrible vocalists you need to come up with something good to say about... Although maybe you do and feel you can help them all? Anyway, this is really good work. Hoping to see your channel blow up. Of course as I write the above I hear the end of your video where you mention your classes and I feel a bit sheepish... I still think it might be good to have reactions to band recordings though! I want to get back the vocal range I had 15 years ago...

Thank you so much! I do my best of share as much knowledge as I have from my experience for everybody that wants to make some noise. There’s links in the description to book a consult for the class that’s happening in November! Feel free to book a slot!
@the_panosАй бұрын
@@PhillipNathanielFreeman I did go to the link but it feels a bit like a competition and I am beyond rusty at this point unfortunately. Once I know my schedule for work a bit better (I'm a night worker living in Adelaide, south Australia so it's a double edged sword with scheduling with you!) I'll figure out a time regardless

Phil, you're analysing with notes here, can you please do that with Welcome Back O sleeping Dreamer from Lorna Shore, as this song from the solo into the breakdown possible containes the biggest vocal drop in music hostory, still dying to find out just how big that drop is.... not a single reactor has done that, you would be the very first!

What's amazing to me is he has be able to keep his voice and sing like this for decades without having proper training and not really knowing what the correct technique is or isn't.
@PhillipNathanielFreemanКүн бұрын
I’m not sure whether he’s had formal training or not, but either way he’s a genius. His ability to teach himself is evident in the fact he can sing that well and accompany himself with equal proficiency. AND he engineers his own music?! The guy is a true savant.
@ImperialmusicfanКүн бұрын
@@PhillipNathanielFreeman Yeah, Devin is the real deal, a real artist. Here's what he stated in an interview a few years back: " Somebody led me to a Myles Kennedy interview yesterday where he’s talking about his vocal technique. He knows what he’s doing, so I thought ‘I’d like to read this’. In the interview he’s like ‘I utilize the top part of my palette for this and that, and I’ve got this operatic technique that I went to school for for breaking between the head tone and the chest tone…’ "I realized that I felt quite insecure because I don’t know any of this. None of it. In fact, whatever technique I have has been based on trial and error. I know what I do, but I don’t know the technical aspect. "There’s this trend lately on KZbin where they have vocal teachers reacting to performances. They were explaining my technique and how I control it and I’m like ‘I have no idea’.

I know this will never happen but I wish someone as versed as you would analyze Diamanda Galas- Wild Women With Steak-Knives off of her 1984 album- Litanies of Satan.... Ill be impressed if you are aware of her lol If not you NEED!!!! on your own time listen to that specific track and tell me you mind is not blown by one the most insane female vocal performances in literally all of recorded history... I challenge you my friend listen to the whole thing and tell me that is not one of the most vocally amazing and disturbing things you ever heard vocally come out of a person? It is NOT a recreational listen I do warn you but your life will be more fulfilled I promise you.... I mean she only has a Vocal Range (F2 - C#8) Whatever right??? lol She is initially trained in French Opera and she was ONLY 19 on that track
