John the legend, and Tosin is a class act. He talked about getting different sounds from a guitar than just 'guitar sounds', which is an idea I'm particularly keen on (his 8-strings are naturally one reason for that breadth of sounds). He was trying to think of other instruments that you could 'channel' with guitar like he does in his style, to me at times the sounds he's getting are almost Dulcimer-esque, which is of course a wonderful and unique percussive Chinese ethic instrument that you hear so often in their music. Devin's solo was gnarly too though, that crazy open-C tuning is off the chain... Wish I had the resources to have a bunch of different guitars all set up to play in such crazy tunings!

I hope for the same. In some ways, it's strange to see these guys together because in some ways their music, their backgrounds and even the makeup of their fanbases would be quite different. I feel a little bit for Devin (not that he needs my defence in any way!) in that while he's a accomplished guitar, he doesn't come at the instrument as a shred or means of getting his songs across. He was into shred when he was younger (he's told us) but that seems to have very much retreated in the decades since and clearly his strength lies in his incredible voice and his songwriting. I mean, I totally find it fascinating to see Devin with these guys, I just hope it's not 'jarring' or strange for him to be up with these fret-fiddlers. The amount of talent in this video is just unreal…and 3 totally different types of guitarists

I am convinced Devin is a musician for other musicians. John and Tosin are technical masters in a whole league of their own, and world class musicians that look at the things Dev does and it sounds so simple by comparison, but they are always impressed with what he does.

I cant get over it how inhuman Devin is.. omg. 😮 Everything, anything he does sounds just soo beautifull and good on my ears.. 🤤 Damn that was nice! "Dev why dont you.." "yeah sure.. " goes on playing soo smooth and nice bit godlike! 😊

Devon sounds like a Vai Becker hybrid here. Amazing sound!

I have great respect for everyone in the room but this is what I saw: talk, talk, riff, talk, riff, talk, Devon opens a portal to heretofore unexplored wonders, talk, end. Imma gonna learn more about Devon and good improv. I'll see everyone in a few years...😂

Hi Rick, did you ever hear the double tapping guitar break in Steve Hackett’s ‘Shadow of the Hierophant’? This was recorded in 1975. Three years before EVH recorded ‘Eruption’. Hackett was and still is an under recognised originator and innovator. It’s wonderful to hear these guys play and yet still hear the roots of their music coming from the likes of Steve Hackett and in Devon’s case definitely from Steve Hillage. Hackett is doing a US tour soon. He’d make a great guest👍
