Running sucks. But running in unison while singing a cadence does the job. Takes your mind off of it. Honestly, for me, it was the most relaxing part of boot camp. For me, at least.

It was the morale booster we ALL needed!! The pump of boots in complete unison and the hype of these cadence kept us motivated beyond what we thought we couldn't do!!! I know this specific cadence when it was recorded was for those who were becoming Drill Sergeants, but this same unison was in Airborne School and Air Assault School too!!

It’s been 2 years since getting out of the Army honorably. I only served 4 years in Alaska. Sometimes I feel like I could’ve did more time and had more experiences. And sometimes I feel like I didn’t do enough while in the service to earn my right to be able to call myself a veteran. But although I don’t dare to give myself credit, it’s running into songs/cadences like this, that remind me to just keep marching. To set those unworthy emotions aside and just hustle onward. Cause in one way or another, we are all soldiers in this life. 💯 Hope whomever is reading this, had a good day, week, month, and year. And an even better life 💯✨
@tekigami81692 жыл бұрын
You have more right than me. Every time veterans day rolls along people will tell me "thank you for your service." But I only served a year in national guard before having to be medically discharged. I still don't think I deserve to be called a veteran. I haven't done anything compared to the people currently in and the soliders who fought. I was just medical administration.

As much as that probably weighs on you, you were where you were for a reason. Just imagine a situation up there in the wild north where we all know what they're really doing up there and boom you would have been needed for something that affected every citizen and maybe the world. You know what I'm not saying. You were there for a reason and if you rode a desk you rode a desk but you were there and READY TO DIE for your brother's and sisters and don't you dare take that away from yourself. EVER. Only feel like you didnt do your job if you actually didnt do your job. Everyone has an important part to play, and you did that. Now if you wanna hear a story of someone who really has no right calling themselves a Vet but is buckle up here we go: my best friend of 15+ years was on the last day of of Army basic White phase and this motherfucker had been neglecting a pain in his hip for weeks and didn't report it or report to infirm and wouldn't you know it on their LAST RUCK OF WHITE PHASE his whole femur snapped clean in half when he took a step and folded him like a pretzel. Flash forward: he was pushed out with full disability benefits for the rest of his life AND VETERAN STATUS and that man didn't do shit and he'll be the first go say that but he "earned it" You did your part. Thanks for sticking it through and I hope civilian life is treating you well.

There’s a book about this phenomenon called :”Keeping Together In Time; Dance and drill in human history” by William McNeill. Once you’re moving in step with others, whether it’s running or marching (with song) it becomes like a dance and time flies by. In some cases people get into a state of trance. Don’t know if there are any recent studies on it in the military though.

Emphasizes that when you run, if you can find some way to run and get your mind off of it, it becomes incredibly easier. Same here. Running by myself, unbearable and hard. But with a team and cadence leader, we'd run for MILES before our Sgt informed us we passed a double digit mile length.
