ROCK/WIND SHEILD FOR YOUR TRAILER!! (custom trailer build pt.2)

Today we finish up our open car trailer build! the first thing we need to do is build a rock/wind shield to protect the cars we tow, then we decide to give this thing a fresh gloss black paint job. we also decided the wheels could use a touchup so we sprayed the wheels gloss black too! at the end of the project we decided that the trailer should match the truck so we added some underglow!

I would cover that battery. All it will take is 1 fairly sized roch and bye bye battery. It really should be enclosed with a couple small holes so the battery can vent.

Suggestion, I would put your battery in a box to keep it out of the weather and to keep anyone from messing with it or at least make it harder to be stolen. You might want to think about some side pieces to the wind screen, don't have to be big but it could make it a little more aerodynamic and strengthen it up cross ways. Also I didn't notice if you had D rings in deck on the back. But really nice build and great job.

thank you for the input! we were going to build some side pieces but they get in the way of strapping down the charger because it is a bigger car and D RINGS I modified some that go in the steak pockets with a pin so I can move them around the trailer where ever I need them at the time! as far as the battery yes I will be going back to that at some point!

Some side panels to tie the front down to the sides would look nice.. like triangles that are say 3 foot to toe it together and a box around the battery would look good and keep it from being stolen or exposed to the elements. Trailer came out great.

thanks for the support and ideas! I was originally planning to make side pieces for looks and strength but they get in the way of strapping down the hellcat because it is such a big car the shield is very sturdy tho!!! it hasn't moved at all and we have put a good amount of miles on it at this point!! but the battery I agree and when I have some free time I will definitely be going back to it to enclose it or at least make a better tie down!

@bought2build That totally makes sense about strapping down. The trailer looks great. I have a 20 footer that's diamond plate floor with a dove tail and love that trailer. The floor is a little slick when wet but not horrible. Hellcats are so much fun. Had a 2016 challenger 6sp black on black and loved it. 3 plus years and only put 9000 miles on it so decided I was tired of paying for it and not driving it enough. Cdl of 29 years and I seem that car taking my income away lol

I built a screen similar to this on my race trailer , bugga me first time out a rock flicked up hit the screen bounced forward and smashed the back windo on my tow car !

Damn yeah that’s what I use this trailer for for now until I come across a used enclosed trailer but yeah I didn’t think about stuff bouncing forward into the truck 🤞 it’s been ok so far hopefully it stays that way lol

How tongue weight did it add? I know you are using a 3500 dually, but that’s a decent amount of weight.

Honestly I would be lying to you if I told you a % or number idk what it added for tongue weight if you wanted to replicate it with the material you would like to use they have calculators online 👍👍 if I had it I could have used aluminum possibly

That thing is a wind catcher 9000. To high and flat. Need to make it alittle curved.

My truck is taller than the shield, and at 75 on the highway I don’t notice it a bit I’ve towed the cars all over with it and it does fantastic fuel mileage hasn’t changed a bit either!

Lexan is stronger than plexiglass and will not become brittle over time.

It is slightly curved very slightly but it’s been fine behind my 3500 truck you can’t notice a difference and it keeps the car a ton cleaner
