It was first popular in the 1940s, my mam taught me the moves, she was a brilliant boogie woogie dancer, dancing to Big Band music when she was a young girl. It had changed by the 1950s to suit the rock and roll songs, they were dancing was actually rockabilly, which I used to follow in the early 1980s.

Rought tears to my eyes. I done my dancing starting in the 40's. Danced all my life all styles. Lots of people don't dance anymore either to old or incapable. I can still dance at 93 but my knees are Rheumatoid Arthritis. So I all Can do is watch a d get teary eyed. But thank God I can still get around with a walker and I'm in pretty good health. Thank God. So I'll look and enjoy every step. They were terrific.

I know what you mean, I’m 74. They call it the golden years, I call it a rusty bucket with holes in it. I used to dance my whole life, and then some. Now I sit by the radio or listen to music on my CD player wishing I could dance once again like I used to. I have osteoarthritis. My knees don’t work anymore, and I’ve had two total hip replacements, which leaves twisting in any direction out of the question…lol. I’m just happy to see these people enjoying themselves dancing…..it’s the best exercise anyone can get. My parents got me started early, grew up in a musical family, my dad played the accordion while my mom played a concertina, music dominated the household. Everywhere we went, my dad would bring out his accordion and start playing, even while we were camping, people and kids had a lot of fun, and would dance even on the grass and dirt. My mom is the one who helped me learn how to dance, I was only about five when she started me out with little steps. Later it developed into polkas, waltzes and the Charlton and others of the 1920s and 1930s scene, like ballroom dancing. While my dad was playing the accordion, my mom needed a dance partner so I was elected…lol. As the rock n roll era moved in, it was all those dances, plus being able to do the jitter bug, which was a whole new way to exercise your muscles and body, it is my favorite dance, along with the polkas and waltzes, one needs stamina and lung power to last the duration throughout the musical score. Throughout the 1960s and 70s, new dance moves came on the scene, and again I was dancing to them, even though no partners were involved, I still danced a lot at home though, just so I could get some exercise, and especially after my children were born, needed it…lol. I even started to teach my boys how to dance, but they weren’t really interested in it….lol. Afterwards, I became involved in folk dancing from around the world and participated often, loved this, because it gives a unique perspective on how music has influenced people, their cultures and lives in their countries. I love listening to various artists, songs from around the world, and this can be emotionally complex In variations with musical instruments, genres and styles. I find it all fascinating and a learning experience. Loved it all. Now in my older age, I’m just glad to see people enjoying themselves and dancing. It actually can help bring two people together more when dancing close together and listening to music. The internet cannot do this, it has NO heart. 👍❤️🙏🏼

I got teary eyed too because loved to dance and the faster the better. Now I can barely make it to the kitchen. My issues are due more to major surgeries back in 2011. If not for that I could still shake a leg at 74. (tho I can still shake my b*** ok..lol ) But if you can get on the internet and navigate, I'd say your mind is still doing great at 93. Hoping mine holds out.... lol

I work as a catering server and every so often at a wedding or something there will be a swing or jive tune, even tango or foxtrot and it's literally almost impossible to stop myself.
