It's not that David liked Lulu per se, it's that he "got it" which pretty much everyone didn't at the time, like the jackass saying that it's one of the biggest rock and roll fuck you's of all time (that was Metal Machine Music by the way). David understood the artistic integrity behind it and the commercial risk that Metallica took with releasing an album with Lou Reed that wasn't a classic hits repackaged album (as was the original plan). Lulu was and is his biggest album since Berlin (artistically and conceptually), and the fact that he got Metallica as his backing band was pretty outrageous as he was at the time unsigned to any fucking label and it turned out to be his swansong.

Oh, but not in the attraction sense. If they met young and crazy, they had many ups and downs. But in the end they were great friends and knew each other well of course. They went out together with their partners (said by David), because there was authentic friendship and they respected each other as good friends do. It's about that!

Y'know, in a weirdly fitting way, Lou dying a year or so prior to being inducted might've been his last, and most brilliant and clever, act of performance art -- as much as I and so many other Lou fans would've rather he'd have gotten this honor while he was still alive, this gave us the opportunity to see the love of his life accept the honor in his place! For many, this was very likely the first time that they were exposed to Laurie Anderson; so, to have her delivery the acceptance speech for him was a gift all its own! Lou, may your third death be something very long in coming -- and hopefully that day never comes, 'cuz I know that I'll never forget you and especially for your contribution to what music is, and more-importantly, what it can be that it wasn't imagined to be before until you came along!! Loooooooooouuuuuuuuuu!!!
