I think some commenters misunderstand the conversation about “work”. They’re not talking about punching in on a 9-to-5, they mean that artists have to work, practice, edit, work, practice, etc in order to create- being an artist is WORK. I’m sure they didn’t meant it as a commentary on employment vs unemployment or that ppl should be slaves to an employer.

I’ve always loved Laurie Anderson oh those dimples - she is so brilliant. I was vinyl rummaging the other day and out popped ‘Language, it’s a Virus’ must be 20+ yrs old and sounds seriously modern or even futuristic in 2019. That’s some shit right there. NASA Artist-in-Residence. Perfect.

I was just thinking that. Such a shame Charlie Rose turned out to be a sexual harasser - he was also an urbane and sensitive interviewer. Having Laurie by his side made Lou so much more receptive to questions, and Rose's manner allowed Lou to speak - as opposed to giving spiky non-cooperative responses to interrogation-style probing.

Everyone that has negative comments about Lou here, pls look at your own mistakes first. It take some character to handle fame, and artists are sometimes a bit messed up.....and use substances, I did myself as a young artist. The reason is mostly to alter mind and come up with something original, from a different perspective.

Two beautiful voices! Laurie's Yin and Lou's Yang ways... They realy make a WUWEI, that's to say, the "TAO 'two fishes' DYNAMIC/Sacred/SPHERE". They are a Tao couple. And is visible and delightful to see it clearly, the sweet love they share(d). I always loved Lou's singing voice. It's to perfection to the poetry of his songs. And what a beautiful feminine sound Laurie's voice has. Melodious, calm and at the same time strong and musical. Two real souls living the concrete life.

the fact of the matter -- see Lou's biography -- is that he was selling weed as a student at Syracuse and almost got busted as a result. Lou's later addiction, like Lenny Bruce before him -- was primarily to speed/methadrine -- and Lou like many of us, did a whole lot of shitting things while addicted -- he cleaned up in the early 80s, and in fact in later life wouldn't allow any drugs on tour.

What I know about think-tanks you could fit on the back of a receipt. But...I'd say NASA might keep anybody they find is interesting to have around, being themselves, keeping busy, exploring things. And Ms. Anderson seems every bit that kind of person.

Does anyone sense the "John-and Yoko" vibe in this interview; Lou checking in with Laurie about details of his life, gentle supportive gestures/reflections....and for her "there's nothing she can't do! She's perfect!) Granted: Laurie Anderson is an astounding artist in her own right. But there is no question of her/their loving support of each other.(Is there any other artist with so soothing a voice?)

Loved this,but have a big problem with the demonization of people out of the workplace. I know disabled people who can’t”work” in Snyder’s eyes. They are human beings,interesting kind talented folks.Also,not everyone gets to be lucky to be scooped up by Andy. I wouldn’t call peeing on canvas work , how about single mothers keeping several jobs who would love just sitting down and writing.Not exactly taxing job. Lou worked hard waiting for the man,that’s true, Snyder worked hard assaulting his coworkers and now does not have a job.Imagin all you have to do is sit in a chair ,all cozy,yakking with people. So when Tom was fired did that mean now he’s not interesting any more? Never was,but you get in trouble when you are a mutual admiration club that is obviously smug and very bigoted.What a shame.Fame will protect them if they ever have to get jobs,though.Ok, just saying,nice “ work,” if you can get it.Shame on the guys.Lori seems actually wise and reflected,but she’s chose to hang out with these holier then us,eugenic attitude.

Laurie wasn't there to hear her own voice. If she had something to say, she would have said it. Both of them switched their full attention to Laurie when she did begin to say anything, because she doesn't tend to chime in until she has something to add. Thank God true artists don't work on the quota system of artless SJWs.
@dontbefatuousjeffrey2494
@dontbefatuousjeffrey2494 4 жыл бұрын
@@afterthesmash The fuck has being a so-called "SJW" got to do with it? I agree the OP was tone-deaf in their "observation" - it was obvious when she spoke that both men respected her (despite Rose's other workplace behaviours) but being a feminist doesn't automatically make you this largely mythical beast, the "SJW"- it makes you human. Writing their tendency to talk more off in that lazy, misandrist way bothers me - but Lou adored Laurie and maybe the OP was just distracted by his history of arrogance in interviews and a misunderstanding of Rose's interview process.

He didn't sell weed. He sold heroin. You know...the hard stuff that's easy to get hooked on. The same shit that fucked him up for years. And he didn't give a shit that he was getting others addicted. That really does make him a lowlife. Pathetic is not something you'd want to be called, by anyone.. let alone depraved or perverted.

Q magazine did a chart a few years ago where they mentioned rock music's most horrible people and he was on it. He didn't leave the Velvet Underground...he was sacked and replaced by Doug Youl. He sold speed and heroin, to students, in college. When Bowie suggested he clean up his life, Reed hit him. Lester Banks a devoted fan who was allowed into Reed's hotel room for an all night drinking and bitching lesson once described him as a 'completely depraved pervert and pathetic death dwarf.'

Nice job. You sound like a total idiot. You can't even spell Doug Yule or Lester Bangs, and yet you are now some kind of expert, based on something you saw in Q? I don't know if Reed ever hit Bowie, whom he loved, but he'd knock you out, just for your own good.
