A classic from the re-release of their 1969 EP, Seven Inches of Satanic Panic! It's a family joke that my mum's still got her old, autographed copy from the 60's, and that she might have been one of the go-go dancers in the video. She had a kind of a wild youth, and my father may or may not be an OG ghoul. ;)

There's a little bit of lore in here. It's hinted that Sister Imperator (blonde lady) is pregnant with Papa Nihil's child, hence the violent reaction to the woman smoking next to her. Imperator and Nihil are the old couple at the beginning. They were divorced or separated for a long time because of Nihil's cheating, and she returned in 2018 to take control of the Ministry again because she felt that Nihil wasn't doing a good enough job on his own, and his three sons (Papa Emeritus I-III, who he fathered with other women) were failures. She had them killed and her own son (then Cardinal Copia, now Papa Emeritus IV) promoted to become the new anti-pope.

Just for the fun of it, "Osculum Obscenum" is latin and it means "obscene kiss", something like a dirty kiss or so. Btw, the singer and the blone girl from the 60s concert are the main characters of the Dance Macabre video: Papa Nihil and Sister Imperator. That are the same two old people that appear at the beggining of this chapter and the founders of the Ghost project in the band's lore

Ok, so the death metal band Tobias was in was called Repugnant, which he fronted as the character Mary Goore, who looked like a skull-faced, skinny gutter punk and screamed about cannibalism, necrophilia and Satan a lot. Sometimes he dressed like a nun, too. MCC is short for Magna Carta Cartel, *another* band Tobias was in (he played guitar and bass) along with some founding and former members of Ghost. Most notable is Martin Persner, who left Ghost before the lawsuit mess happened, and is now fronting MCC. Their new stuff is really good, and I'd highly recommend giving it a listen!

Just binged all of your Ghost videos. I've been listening to them for over a decade and I really enjoy, as others have said, watching someone experience Ghost for the first time. Especially with your musical background. I appreciate your analysis of the song as well as just Ghost and Tobias overall. Keep going my friend! I think He Is should be your next one after Ghuleh/Zombie Queen (such a good surfer rock riff on that one!!)

People ask me what genre Ghost belongs to-I tell them it’s just 70s-style acid rock with modern production techniques. Think the Doors, Blue Öyster Cult… and then in other songs they bring in some influence from the second wave of acid rock (think, the Cure) and other early-mid-80s New Wave, and, finally early-90s metal.

Yup! That's the same 'blonde chick' from Dance Macabre! It's supposed to be her (Sister Imperator) and the guy she met at the party (Papa Nihil) in the current day and 1969 after he's become the lead singer haha

So I currently just got into ghost and I’ve become completely converted. I’m buying vinyls merch all of it. Watch a lore video they have a few really good ones. The ghost lore goes deep. When you finish a lore video go onto the ghost you tube and watch the story videos you may have to dig for the older ones about papa 2 and 3 then once you get to the chapters videos is where the prequella album and cardinal come into play so it will coincide with the 2 recent albums and you tube chapter videos. That way with already watching a lot of the videos you’ll see and know what papa is doing what album. It’ll just help start putting everything together in the deep lore Tobias has made between live shows, music videos, you tube vids etc etc etc

The "lore" is deep, but also (purposefully) silly. This Chapter supported the release of 7" of Satanic Panic (which Papa Nihl held up). It has Go Goat and Mary on a Cross, and has a late 60's vibe to it. This came out after their 4th album (Prequelle), so the story explains how it came to be.

Tobias was in a death metal band called Repugnant (I might be wrong but I think this was before he joined Magna Carta Cartel) and they've got some pretty good stuff. They were quite big in the swedish death metal scene at the time, despite the fact they were only active for a very short period. I'd recommend you check them out when you can🔥 Edit: they only ever released one full length album 'Epitome of Darkness' which got rave reviews and is one of my personal favorites.

Go back to the beginning! Everything will make a lot more sense if you do. I’ve loved Ghost (Tobias Forge) since 2012. Had a blast at my first ritual in Atlanta back in September. “He Is”, is a very underrated song. I’m glad that Ghost is finally getting the recognition that they deserve. Tobias is a genius! Not sure if you know this, but, on the albums Tobias is doing it all. The Ghouls/Ghoulettes that you see on tour are hired musicians. They all have their own bands too. Honestly, you can’t hear a bad song from Ghost. He puts a lot of work into each album. 🖤

🤘 I was kinda surprised you went with Kiss The Go-Goat, but I'm glad you enjoyed it! It really is a fun song. The thing I'll say about album order - the earlier in their discography, the more overtly satanic the songs are, while the newer stuff has better sound production. The thing is each album follows its own concept, so doing that would give better context to their songs. However you decide to go about it, I'm here for it. Lastly, if you want to check out another band in between Ghost reactions, Nothing More is amazing. 🤘

Another good one you might like is Secular Haze! Great keyboard in that one. From Papa II’s era and the music video has the same vintage look. Also his old death metal band Repugnant is amazing. From Beyond the Grave is a great track from that band.

Believe it or not ghost actually has a decent handful of instrumental tracks.. my personal favorite is helvetesfönster, but there is also Miasma, Genesis, and even a few short interludes between songs. I will say that at some point it probably makes sense to just start at the beginning and listen to everything. You’ll find songs you love and you’ll find some songs you think are just OK but I feel like there are some great ghost live videos to watch but I wouldn’t want you to watch that as the first time you heard the song

It’s been really fun to see you react to the music videos and everything (you hve fun with it, which is the point of the band!) but I’d really love to see you listen to them album by album instead. There’s not music videos for most of the rest but you know music so it’d be cool to hear you react to the albums as a musician. Especially those first two albums, I think they’ll suprise you, there’s a lot of really different and interesting stuff in them.

That's Papa Nihil back in 1969. Sister Imperator is the one on the balcony putting out the cigarette of the other woman because she is pregnant with Nihil. The son is Cardinal Copia later Papa Emeritus lV. The EP he's holding up is Seven Inches of Satanic Panic.

Bit of warning, as you play their older songs, as requested, I think they are less "catchy", which is one of the traits you admire. I never personally got into Zombie Queen.

The earlier albums are heavier but less melodic. My favorite Ghost album is Prequelle; it's perfect. Their latest album is very good, but it has poorer songwriting than Prequelle.
